Weight-Loss What's for Breakfast???

Weight-Loss
First off, you definitely need to eat a MINIMUM of 1200 calories per day. Period. And eating breakfast is very very important. Even if you aren't hungry, eat something such as fruit or whole wheat toast.

As for as eating when not hungry goes.... I am rarely hungry. I eat on a schedule. Now if I go too far past my scheduled eating time, my body lets me know it's hungry. If you eat at the same times each day, and if you eat every 3-4 hours while you are awake, your body will not store as much fat because it knows it will get to eat again soon. If you only eat 2-3 larger meals or if you eat inconsistently, you body may store the fat in what you eat because it's not sure when it will eat again. This is called survival mode. Generally, eating less than 1200 calories will put you in survival mode.

What to eat for breakfast??

I need to eat more than just corn flakes for breakfast due to a new job, before I started working I can normally bear it till lunch with just cereals.

I bought some toast, more cereals (with lite milk), blueberry bagles, tuna cans, fresh ham and salami.

Right now I want to lose about 5kgs, just want to get back in shape.

Not too sure if I can make eggs and bacon tho.. feels too oily
But if it gives me a lot of energy, then why not.

Thanks in advance.

Wayne

Cereals are just Carbs and carbs tend to give you burst of energy but burn off too quick and make you feel hungry soon. You should get some protein like tuna, or egg whites in your breakfast. Protein takes time to digest and hence keeps you feeling full till lunch time. Eggs are ok but try and avoid the yellow (yolk) not sure about Ham . Try and eat every 3 hours to keep your metablosim going and all meals should be a balance of protein and healthy carbs (veggies and fruits).

Hope this helps.

I'm struggling with this too.

I was a habitual fast food breakfast junkie, just so easy to go through a drive thru on the way to work & grab the caffiene fix (sweet tea or Dr Pepper, not a coffee gal) & an egg & cheese on either a muffin or biscuit. Kept me going until lunch but I dont see it being the healthiest or best deal caloric wise.

I feel really rushed in the mornings, so I hate the idea of getting up earlier to make sure I have time to cook, eat & clean up. Some how cereal & oatmeal just dont seem to be keeping me from getting hungry before lunch. Still hopeful, but I either need a new idea or to add the midmorning snack.

I tend to like a high protein breakfast too - but lately I have been eating Kashi Go Lean High Protein High Fiber Cereal - a banana and a half a cup of milk - it is the cereal that leaves me satisfied and it was a good way of sneaking fiber in to my diet ;)

I eat 6 egg whites, 1 yolk, 4 strips of turkey bacon and either a bowl of fiber 1 cereal with 1/2 cup of skim milk or a bowl of oatmeal every morning for breakfast. Once in a while I throw in a piece of fruit. It keeps me satisfied until the 3 hours pass for my next meal and gives me tons of energy.

I like fruits, milk and cereals (can't live without them it seems!). Be careful while choosing the right cereals though..most of those that taste good aren't good for you

My recent breakfasts (the good one's anyway)...

Slow-cook oatmeal with a protein shake
Egg whites and a slice of sourdough or pumpernickel bread (sometimes with some beans too)

And you should try and have a mid-morning snack as MoonGoddess suggested. Ideally something with some protein as well. It's better to spread the calories out during the day with 5-6 meals rather than have 3 meals.

For me its porridge oats (unprocessed oatmeal to USA, cooked with water or milk and served hot). At the moment I cook it with semi skimmed milk, raisins, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and pine nuts. Other times I have added honey, almonds, chopped banana, honey, and low fat yoghurt to it. It can be cooked with water (the Scots cook it with water and salt) as an alternative.

Its the ultimate breakfast - yes it has carbs (and protein!) - but smart slow burning carbs, it is as wholemeal as wholemeal gets. Rich in soluble fibre, porridge oats can cut the risk of heart disease, and reduce blood cholesterol.

Ok, some days, I don't have time to cook the porridge (5 minutes!), or its too heavy before a run. Then I choose a lighter high fibre cereal - often wheat based, which can be served cold and isn't so heavy in the gut as porridge.

One more point - I NEVER skip breakfast - I break fast like a king.

i usually have an english muffin with a varity of toppings....light cheese, ham, jam, etc...sometimes have a piece of fruit as well. it's fast and easy.

I am having a REALLY hard time deciding what to eat for breakfast in the morning. I find that eggs keep me going longer, but I am not an egg-kinda person. If anyone can give me some ideas of what to eat that's good for you please let me know. I am doing the weight watchers program if that helps. Thanks for any help!!! :D

Oatmeal! Oatmeal! Oatmeal! I hated it at first, but I really like the Baked Apple, or Apple Cinnimon.

Somestimes I also have a breakfast bar, or banana, or yogurt. Have you ever tried veggies for breakfast. The Dietician that I used to work with recommended it to diatetics all the time.

My first morning meal is a yogurt and banana, my second breakfast is Kashi Go Lean High Protein High Fiber cereal, 1/2 c milk and another banana :)

Cereal is good. There are loads to choose from so you will be able to find one you like.
You could instead/also try something like a banana smoothie, just half a glass of milk with a banana blended together. Thats best if you plan to do exercise soon after.

I usually have a Kashi granola bar and water, but I'm usually really hungry when 10am hits. I'm thinking about switching to oatmeal in the morning and then a light snack around 10am to hold me to lunch.

Egg whites are a good idea, also some fresh fruit.
