Weight-Loss What's for Breakfast???

Weight-Loss
best breakfast ideas?

mmm i've been trying to get really serious with this so now for my breakfasts i'm eatting high protein (i normally eat breakfast after i lift i the morning).

so now my breakfasts usually consist of the following:

4 egg whites w/ hot sauce (mmm i love hot sauce)
2 scoops low-fat cottage cheese w/ cut up red seedless grapes (i usually keep my grapes in the freezer too)

oats! i love oats and oatmeal/porridge :D

Also weetabix too.
Of course both have milk so a fair bit of protien.
I often have eggs on toast (60cal an egg + 70cal toast).
And french toast (about 100cal a slice if made yourself).

I dont see the point in seperating eggs when they are so healthy and few calories, besides .. the yolk is the best part :)

^ people may want to remove the yolk so that they can take in more protein for less fat: most of the protein is in the white, so instead of having to eat 5 eggs a day,you can eat 1-2 whole eggs and the rest use whites only.

I make low fat scrambled eggs with one egg, 2-3 whites on rye bread (slowly digested low GI carbs) and a bit of skimmed milk (well when I could tolerate milk) and pepper.

Cottage cheese with milo/ovomaltine is great too before a workout.

Need some good breakfast ideas!

Can anyone reccomend some good breakfast ideas for someone looking to lose weight.
Is there any healthy cereals that you can reccomend?

Are toast, muffins (english) or crumpets ok for breakfast?

Thanks
Mike and Tiff

I like english muffins sometimes....they're really versatile and a great base food.

my breakfast lately has been
2/3 cup nature's path optimum rebound
1/2 cup milk
medium banana
coffee w/ half and half and sweetener
= 374 calories

there are a bunch of breakfast idea threads in this forum, let your fingers do some searching (and burn some calories in the process)

also check out "the easiest nutrition guidelines thread" as well - for osme ideas of what's not great to have.

Crumpets and toast are probably not a great choice because they are generally made with white flour - unless you ca find whole grain crumpets i'd pass on them

When looking at cereals - read the ingredients - if it contains High Fructose Corn Syrup - put it back - if it's got less than 5 grams of fiber per serving - put it back..

Breakfast Question

I read on many website that skipping breakfast is a big no no. Well I do a 7a to 3:30p job. I have to wake up at 5:30am. I'm just not hungry when I first wake up. So I go to work without eating anything. I usually eat a yogurt or a piece of toast around 9am at work. Is this still okay or am I ruining it because I'm skipping breakfast? Thanks in advance for any replies!

I know what your feeling. I have a 90 minute comute and have to be out the door by 6:15. I'm never hungry but I force myself to have just a small something. A glass of OJ, or a piece of fruit, maybe a slice of toast. This gets your metabolism going and starting to burn calories. I think you'll find that it actually helps wake you up. Otherwise if you don't eat until 9, your wasting 3 and a half hours where you could be jumpstarting your fat burning

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it gets your metabolism reved up and ready for the day. It should be your largest meal of the day, well that is the case for me...

I've never bought the "breakfast is the most important meal", as I think all meals are important/proper nutrition in general is important. However, I do see how breakfast is helpful in starting your day out right - providing energy, alertness, etc.

What if you made a hard-boiled egg and ate it? It's light, but rich in protein and is good for you.

I am in the same boat as I am sure a whole lot of people are. What is a good easy food to eat in the morning that doesn't require cooking or much prep. I could eat fruit, but I want more substance in the morning and I like to snack on fruit throughout the day.

I have been thinking about maybe breaking the mold and not eating breakfast foods, but instead maybe more of a lunch. Like a tuna or turkey wrap, that way I can make it at night so that it is ready to go in the morning.

When I first started eating breakfast, I'd eat oatmeal as I was gearing up for my day. If I waited too long, my body would tell me "hey!, remember me?"
I think its about re-training your mind and body to new healthier queues.

Good luck with finding your new favorite breakfast item!

There's a lot more than just providing "energy, alertness, etc.", the way you eat at your breakfast, will say how day will go... A nice breakfast will make you less hunger during ALL day and boost your metabolism.

That's why they say
"Take your breakfast as a king
your lunch as a prince
and your dinner as a poor"

I don't know how good this is, but here's what I have!

Breakfast fruit smoothie!

Equal portions of: Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. A banana (the size has a bigger impact on the overall taste than you'd imagine!), a little juice (I prefer orange) and, if you want, some yoghurt.

The juice is there to make it easy to blend as much as anything else! THe yoghurt helps with your daily protein, but make sure it's natural. The amount of berries that you use depends on how much you want obviously, but I find that about 80 grams of each is enough for a big glass! The yoghurt is optional, you'll have to play around with the amount of juice and yoghurt that you add to get the right thickness for you - hhow htick it is is entirely personal taste!!

I found that I have more energy, and a week after I started I was getting comments about how much better my skin was looking! Good luck :)

I mix half a cup of plain uncooked oats with 1 serv yoplait light yogurt (a total of 250 cals). its whole grains so it sticks with you all morning, and the yogurt is good too. We call them Yogi-oats, even my son likes it! I got the idea from a childhood friend who recently lost about 70 lbs, her son really liked it also and he was a very finicky eater.

Breakfast

What do you have for Breakfast?

I'm looking for something that will fill me til Lunch..

or fill you til you have a midmorning snack...

breakfast is usually around 400 calories and can be anything from

cottage cheese w/ a big pile of fruit
kashi waffes w/ peanut butter and apples or banana
my cereal mixture of kashi heart to heart cereal mixed with kashi go lean crunch
2 packages of kashi oatmeal

I usually have a bowl of cereal. I have been on a Fiber One kick for a while and have not grown tired of it yet. With one half-cup serving having 14g of fiber, it keeps me full enough from 7:15AM to 12:00PM. Because it can taste like cardboard some days, I have a habit of putting a bit of real maple syrup (maybe 1-2 tablespoons at most) or fruit (I like blueberries) on it. When I do need a break, I usually go with generic Cheerios or Frosted Mini-Wheats. When I am feeling saucy, generic Lucky Charms find their way home. :)

On days when I do not have time to sit down for a few minutes, I usually just make some toast with enough olive oil based margarine to make it not dry or grab a piece of fruit.

Some might say that eating a morning snack might not be a bad idea. Taking an apple (or banana, orange, snack bar, bag of crackers, etc.) to work/school may not be a bad idea. Some sources say that eating a small snack revitalizes your metabolism and keeps it going. I just know that the cake and cookies that I always find at work are hard to pass by -- but I have been trying to ignore them more lately!

What should I eat for Breakfast?

I can get my hands on almost anything so now I just need to know what I should eat?

The only problems are:
~I cannot handle dariy in the morning. I love it anyother time but it makes my stomach cramp really bad. So, sadly, no matter how much I love it, I cant do yogert. I also cannot stomach much in the mornings.
~Also, I'm a teenager in my last semester of highschool and I just want it to be over. So, I pretty much roll out of bed, take a shower, brush my teeth and hair, put on some smelly goods and jump in my car. So, I can either A. wake up earlyer and possibly do a little physical activity before I jump in the shower or B. Grab something quick but healthy and go to school then work out when I get home.

I would really love to have the motivation to wake up early to take care of everything but I tend to love my sleep.

So, What kinds of foods would be good for me to eat in the mornings? I know fruit and other things but what kinds that will give me a variety so I dont get sick of it?

And what steps should I take to get motivated?

:conehead: <---- Hell Yes!
