Weight-Loss WL competition TEAM GOLD

Weight-Loss
Thanks. I will have a look around on the site. I just had a quick glance, looks like a lot of the teachers here have just a copy and paste description, which isn't giving a lot of detail. I have, however, found one that looks to be quite chunky.....I am not sure if that is a good sign or a bad one!! *lol*

I might drop her an email tomorrow, together with a few others.

Watching the video, I noticed several things: a) it looks like a ton of fun. b) I feel like I would look absolutely and utterly ridiculous even trying that c) I don't think those girls would ever stand a chance...;)) and d) now I want to go there. None of the trainers I saw on the website looked anywhere near as nice. All skinny females in their mid-twenties. :(

Silly question - since I couldn't see any kind of prices - how much do they charge for a session?

They are lots of fun... I swear that if P.E. lessons had been like that when I was at school I would have loved P.E. (and not been so desperate to give it up that I opted to do extra maths lessons instead as soon as the opportunity arose)...

I agree - that instructor does look like she is on the cuddly side... I would be intrigued to contact her too...

Chris charges £3.50 or £4 depending on which session you go to... His lessons are so good that a lot of the same people go to him at his different locations... We will go to one of his £4 sessions tonight if the snow allows us to drive to Gosforth. I know that some classes cost more... if you click on the individual classes on that website some instructors give their price - but I have happily emailed people and asked them how much they charge for their different classes...

LOL - we all look pretty ridiculous doing it - but it is lots of fun...

LOL - I know exactly what you mean regarding the girls standing a chance... I thought that at first too... LOL then I got to know Chris. They certainly wouldn't stand a chance - but not for the reason you are thinking!!! Here is a clip of him salsa dancing with his girlfriend that he lives with...

He is such a good dancer that Rod and I are convinced that we can identify loads of young girls that would love to take Megan's place - but he is clearly smitten with Megan. They are a lovely young couple.

LOL Rod has said that if he had known how many girls were impressed by a good dancer he would have been spending his money on dance lessons when he was 20 years old...

Here is a little film at the location where we will go to tonight (if Rod gets home through the snow in time to get me there)

We arent there - but they will give you more of an idea of it.

I wish that Oldham was nearer to Newcastle as I know that you would love his classes.

We have people of all ages - from skinny to heavy - and healthy to issues like MS all having fun and doing a lot of exercise together...

Transparent - I love the story about your gym. It sounds brilliant.

If anyone wore makeup to our zumba - it would run all down their faces and look pretty stupid... My hair is literally wet (not damp - wet) with sweat long before the hour is up...

These places are often far more welcoming for people that are not going to be mistaken for models than we anticipate...

Ah yeah, I do remember PE lessons...the amount of illnesses I came up with so I wouldn't have to participate was staggering. And I'd forget my PE kit, every single time. Hated it. Not only did I not like the actual PE, I was also extremely prone to injuries, and ended up with twisted ankles, wrists, bruises and scrapes. Plus, we had a PE teacher who hated anything female. The guys could do what they wanted, and we had to do the most awful exercises you can imagine. It got to the point where the parents of some of the other girls spoke up in the end and he got replaced. I still hated PE though, even afterwards....*lol*

I had another look around and found one that looked reasonably promising: - The prices seem fine as well, so I think I might drop him an email, together with the other girl, and have another look if there are any more. There doesn't seem to be anything really close by, and I'd rather travel a bit further to get there and have one that I feel comfortable at, than be uncomfortable for the sake of less traveling time.

Okay, I stand corrected! :) I guess it's hard to tell from one video clip, especially when it is one where the person dances....and yeah, I can imagine that a lot of guys would have gone to dance lessons instead of football if they had known how that works on the girls! *lol*

Yeah, I wish it was too - it looks like a great class. But it'd be just a tad too far to get there I'm afraid.:/

You've got snow? Over here it's cold, but clear and sunny. I don't want any more snow either, so please make sure to keep it over there!! ;)

LOL well I'm not kidding - I opted to do extra maths lessons instead of PE the minute that I got the chance... I got great maths grades and the minute the maths teacher told me that all computer code was based on binary I was sold on the idea that it would be the perfect career for me... Its amazing how our lives take shape...

I would definitely email both teachers and quiz them on how suitable their classes would be for you. I'm sure that you can find something that you would enjoy with an atmosphere where you would feel comfortable. I am a firm believer in the notion that the best form of exercise for us is something that we really enjoy.

I've got a funny story for you... A girl (aged about 40) in my zumba class told me that she was quite big when she started in spring 2011... She got hooked and was going to loads of his classes and could feel herself getting fitter all the time but she wasnt really dropping weight as quickly as she had thought that she would... Suddenly around December it was all explained... She found out she was pregnant and had the baby about a fortnight later... It was a major surprise to both her and her husband... She hadnt been regular in TOM so the idea never occurred to her...

Apparently she turned up at zumba after only two or three weeks off and stunned everyone by announcing that she had had a baby... She then lost tons of weight in the following few months... The pregnancy had masked all the weight that she had been losing... It really is amazing when you meet people with stories like that to tell...

The snow is certainly here. I am just about to take the yaktrax off my shoes as I have just got in from walking in it...

Hi guys, just checking in with my daily posting

Well, I sent off a few emails, let's see what comes out of it. There are some that offer just going there to have a look, which I might do. No better way to find out whether I like something or not than to actually go and have a look at it!

THat is quite funny, even though I can't for the life of me imagine that somebody is pregnant and doesn't realise it until the end. I mean, with all the changes your body goes through, even if you're not regular, surely you must notice something. I mean...a baby moves for crying out loud! How can you miss that? *lol*

That said, my mom told me that she lost almost three stone when she was pregnant with me, but nobody really noticed - neither that she had lost weight, nor that she was pregnant. She told my grandmother at the end of January (apparently my grandmother had known all along though), and I was born on Feb. 14th - so people really had no clue either. And after I was born she lost weight really quickly, and everybody was surprised. *lol*

We got some snow around here yesterday, but it's all gone again. Now it's cold, but sunny, which is actually quite nice. I'm about to hop on the treadmill, gotta see how long I can make it - stupid me decided to walk barefoot for an hour yesterday!! Needless to say that my feet are just a tiny bit sore! :/

Will post my food/drinks/exercise log in a few minutes as well, so I won't fall too far behind.

Hug in sympathy --> :hug2:

That happened to me once...
The motor had burnt itself out...

Luckily my treadmill had a 15 year guarantee so I got in touch with the people that had sold it to me and they came and got it all sorted out... Unfortunately they had to take it away for a while (I can't remember - I think a week or two)... it was a pain to be without it...

Check your guarantee...

I got a lecture about keeping it on a rubber mat (which I now do) and I was told to unscrew a cover and vacuum in there every so many months... I didnt really do that as often as they suggested - but now l live in a different house and it used to be on a much thicker carpet than it is now so there will be less fluff in the atmosphere...

Thanks for the hug! :)

Yeah, I opened it up and looked around, it's definitely the motor. It didn't cut out, and there was no error message, it just started smoking (while still working). After scouting the internet I think I have determined the problem(s) - a) I am actually too heavy for it. I was aware of it, but thought I could get away with it. Clearly, I can't. b) It was rather dusty, and is sitting on a carpet, which will have added to the problem, and c) the belt had slipped slightly and was touching the side, which was causing friction. I've called a friend who used to be a personal trainer, and is therefore rather familiar with treadmills, and he promised to come around and sit the belt properly, tighten it if needed, and oil everything that needs oiling. He also told me outright that as long as I am heavier than the maximum weight it allows, trying to use it will be a surefire way of wrecking the motor once and for all. So I guess it's off to walking on the streets for me. :/ I hate that. I'm scared of falling, can't deal with uneven terrain at all, but hey....girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do I guess.

When we were getting our Tunturi treadmill - we phoned up the technical experts in technical support department and quizzed them on how rigid the rules regarding maximum weight were...

The word was
- keep it on the flat
- if exceeding - go at no more than 3mph
- it should then be able to handle no more than the published maximum plus 20%.

I am not saying that we would have ever admitted to a repair man that came out that anyone using it was exceeding the published limit...

*lol*....yeah, that's kind of what he said - there's some wriggle room, but I am exceeding even that. I think max. weight for mine is 270 lbs....*gulp*....and I am going at 5.5 to 6.5. So it's not REALLY surprising that the poor thing eventually decided to let me know that it wasn't happy.

For the time being, I will try to walk outside, and if that's not possible, make up the exercise time with strength and resistance training, and some more floor stuff. And hopefully Zumba a couple of times, and I might nip into the gym somewhere a couple of times a week. I completely forgot that I have a card that gives me 50% off at all council run gyms in the area. I got it from a place called 'Carer's Centre'. It's, as the name says, a place for people who care for somebody meet up to have a chat, once a month they have something called 'pamper day', where you can have your nails done, face massage, eyebrow plucking, stuff like that. And they also have a legal department which helps you to make sure that you get every help you need. They helped us get an adapted bathroom which will make it easier for us to deal with my stepson in there. And they told me that I can get those 50% off at the gym, and the swimming pool. So in the worst case, I'll just have to head there.

Long story short....I guess I will have to work even harder to lose the weight, so I can get on the treadmill to lose more weight....oh the irony.....*lol*

Nothing announced yet...
Now that most people have posted - then we can look through Steve's analysis plus the scoresheets to see if there are additions and work out who appears to have lost most last week...

Then we can suggest that they get ready with something and they will probably post something later today.

It is just Wednesday here in the UK - but the people in Australia are pretty much in Thursday now.

San - I've just gone through and no-one has reported a bigger loss than your own outstanding loss of 4.8 pounds last week.

I think that you had better start thinking about what we can all do...

LOL San - now you see how there ends up as being a 1 week gap between the person getting the biggest loss and them choosing the next mini challenge... We were just chatting about that the other day.

Omega you beat me to it, I was just about to bump San and let her know that she needs to figure out the challenge for the last week of the competition.

Make it a good one San, this is the one that is going to carry us all to the finish line. Also, can you put it out by tonight if you can, so that those down under will have enough time to figure out/work out the logistics of completing the challenge without having to play catch up.

On a side note, I really enjoyed this challenge, even though I got stuck in plateau land for the last few weeks of it:angelsad2: but that doesn't matter, what does is that I want to do another one, so can anyone think of another one that we maybe can start the week after this one is finished?

I realize that MFP probably won't furnish a prize, but I never joined it for that reason anyway, my prize is the weight loss, its enough for me:biggrinjester:. So hint, hint, hint, I am putting myself out there as one of the first ready to sign up for the new competition, that should start after this one is over.:coolgleamA:
