Weight-Loss WL competition TEAM GOLD

Weight-Loss
Everyone in team GOLD is doing brilliantly.

Its always fun to win a challenge...

Quercus I am a big fan of Greek yoghurt. I eat Fage Total 0% Greek yoghurt all the time... In fact, I have lots of it every day... I always have over 500g - which single handedly gives me my 1000mg calcium (1000mg dietary calcium has been shown to enhance weight loss in addition to all the bone strengthening things that calcium does) plus gives me about 50g protein... since my 1g per pound of lean body weight ends up calculating out to about 100g it gets me half way there for a mere 285 calories...

Blueberries and Greek yoghurt is our yummy suppertime treat - and I tend to have some with apricots for breakfast too...

Don't worry about what we will do when it finishes... That always used to be the time when we announced a whole new team challenge... They are so good at keeping people super-motivated...

Well I have my maximum points for today...

exercise:
1 hr aerobics, 1 hr zumba plus some outdoor walking - pedometer currently 30,556 steps

food so far
veg - carrot, swede, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, leek
fruit - grapes, apples, clementine oranges, apricots

it is highly likely that I will have some blueberries later

You'd think with a name like banana you'd be good on the fruits.

Hahaha too funny!!

HEY YOU GUYS - THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN THE PAST FEW DAYS. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

Things are slowly getting back to normal - even with a chance that the event on Thursday night actually could help us in the future. It seems like - for the time being - that it could be a stepping stone to the right direction.

I m still under-eating - but now that I have my husband back home with me :) - it will be easier - i ll eat when he eats!
I had carrot, cucumber & apple in fresh Juice & I had strawberries.
Exercise - 1 hr walk - lame - I'll do better tomorrow.

HUGS! :grouphug:

Justina - it is brilliant that you can see the potential of a good side to your recent news. I hope that things continue to look better for you.

Its lovely that you have your husband with you. Try not to under-eat as it can be counter-productive - giving you less calories to play with in the future. Eating at the same time as him will certainly help.

Never think of walking as a lame exercise... I swear that it was the key exercise that I utilised in my big project... I lost all that weight and never joined a gym... I went walking every day... My weight was lower than yours when I went to my first exercise class of any type... Walking can be very effective.

Hey you guys, i feel 100% better - things are really improving. Actually they couldn't be better :)
I am happy to report that my appetite is back! Yay!

I nailed the challenge! & i walked too! So good day!

HOW'S EVERYONE ELSE DOING?

Glad to hear things are going well Justina. I've got the mini challenge sorted today, so that's good.

I had a banana an orange and some blueberries,
I had lettuce cucumber and tomatoes with lunch, and I haven't even had dinner yet!

I did an hour walk, and have been out working in the garden all day, so lots of exercise.

Wow Justina and Anna - you are both doing brilliantly.

Justina - I am so pleased to hear that things are once more going well for you.

LOL Anna - you had a banana...

Tuesday was a really high exercise day for me... Unfortunately my pedometer reset (I hate it when that happens) - but I did a ton of outdoor walking and was on well over 22,000 steps before I started the first of my three salsa classes... I did a ton of dancing last night too...

My food was good too -
veg:
peas, sweetcorn, carrot, swede, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, leek
fruit:
grapes, apples, blueberries

so that was max points for me again too :hurray:

Hi everyone, just checking in. I have to ask, because maybe its just me. But does anyone else ever have one of those days where your body is playing tricks on you, just messing with you for no good reason.

Take this morning for example. I was actually hungry and couldn't wait to eat breakfast. I know this might not seem strange, but I am rarely if ever hungry like that in the mornings, maybe by noon if I don't eat, but rarely in the morning whether I was exercising, watching what I eat or not, don't really get hungry in the early morning hours, it was weird.

Then take this evening, no appetite. I forgot I did not have dinner until my head started to hurt. But I have no desire to eat, I know I have to eat something or the headache will get worse, but it does not make sense. My appetite is just yo-yoing all over the place. I am trying to stick to my eating schedule whether or not I am hungry, I failed for dinner, only ate lunch because I have a lunch alarm that I set to remind myself to eat lunch, but no appetite in the evening, and hungry in the mornings its puzzling.

Anyway sorry to ramble on, but I had to just ask if this has ever happened to any of you guys.

I've not had that issue. Usually my problem is being hungry all the time. There's nothing wrong with eating your calories early in the day. I've tried to eat a bigger lunch and smaller dinner because I used to overeat in the evening.

Research has shown that there is no real benefit to the approach that says that lots of small meals are better than three standard ones and the only knowledgeable supporters of the notion these days say that this is the case if it helps you stick to your calorie allowance better... The bottom line is that it is total calories that count and it doesnt matter how you chop it up...

Many people support the idea of having breakfast to trigger metabolism and stop snacking on high calorie food... You can trigger metabolism by exercise too - so eating first thing becomes of less benefit if you exercise early - and if you snack do so only on food that you are ok with eating on your food plan...

LOL - my eating schedule sounds like grazing but it is pretty ordered... it certainly isnt the same as most people's...

I think that part of the issue is that we did get very used to eating our main meal pretty late at night during the time that we lived in Greece...

Anyway, we often have our main meal after 10pm at night... It tends to be a healthy meal that I know is ok after having it numerous times in my big project...

Then later than that - often around midnight we have our suppertime treat of blueberries and 0% Greek yoghurt.

It has the impact that there is a level of food weight involved in my early morning weighing - but this is no big deal...

When I get up in the morning I am not hungry at all... I do not eat - but I trigger my metabolism by doing some exercise... If I do eat it tends to be something simple like some fruit or a few spoonfuls of my yoghurt in a pre-breakfast snack...

On Saturday morning for instance I do a salsa lesson and a zumba class before I think about eating anything... Rod and both think that if we had food on our stomach we would feel ill... LOL this isnt unusual really as our salsa / zumba teacher speaks of having breakfast later too and he is a personal trainer in addition to the above... We do not stop dancing until about 12:15 and by the time we have chatted and walked home it is always after 1pm when we have breakfast...

I often have my breakfast about 1pm... It tends to work out like that on other days too... I often have fruit and 0% Greek yoghurt...

Later in the afternoon - maybe about 4pm or 5pm I often have what you could call my lunch equivalent... This is often homemade soup...

The current batch was made using stock from the chicken carcass from a chicken I roasted last week...

I have an enormous pan and made an enormous batch of this soup... I used tons of vegetables - carrots, leek, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, swede and 3 chilli peppers... LOL a whole cauliflower went in it - it was so full of vegetables... I also put in lentils and barley...

Anyway - I ended up with this really big pan which was so chunky it was a cross between a soup and a vegetable stew... I then put it all through the food processor to even the consistency...

I had a couple of large bowls of it as my main meal on Monday... Every day since I have had one large bowl for my "lunch"...

I eat odd bits of fruit through the day as snacks as and when I feel hungry...

Having the main meal late fits in with our lifestyle as for instance we will not stop salsa dancing until after 10pm tonight... Even if I were to consider eating the main meal at say 7pm before going - I know that Rod has said that he doesnt want to eat until after 10pm as he doesnt want to dance just after eating...

In direct answer to the question... I do not really eat according to conventional patterns - and feel that I am eating when I am hungry... I have altered the conventional timing to the times when I am likely to be hungry... I cannot think of a time when I have not been hungry for my main meal by 11:30pm if I had not eaten before...

Hi all, a loss for me this week, I'm now 208.1 lbs, started the challenge at 215 I think, so about 7 lbs total so far. I'm really happy with that.

I was trying to find out the points for the fruit and vege challenge, was it 1 or2 points per day?

I'm looking forward to seeing the rolling weigh ins as the earth revolves today. :)

Well done Anna.

I have weighed in today... I have lost a mere 0.6 pounds this week - giving me a total loss of 5 pounds in the challenge or 2.99%.

To be fair my weight was slightly lower a couple of days ago - but the discrepancy falls within the normal day to day fluctuations... We did eat our main meal particularly late last night as we didn't get home from salsa until well after 11pm. LOL we seemed to keep on dancing well after the 10pm... We had our supper time blueberries and yoghurt around 1am...

I am still on maximum exercise and mini bonus points for the challenge as a whole.

From my score sheet:

Feb. 8: 352.2 lbs (- 3.5 lbs) - 1.07%
ex. points 10 (sorry guys)
mini chall. points: 7

So things have started moving again, which is good. I was good on my fruit and veg, and got full points! I think I've eaten more fruit and veg in the last 7 days than in the entire year before!
Exercise wise I did my best, but a couple of days I just couldn't do it. My back is still rather sore, and in all actual fact, it seems to have gone worse again in the last two days. It's only on one side, and I'm seriously wondering if I have done something to my hip - so I'm going to watch it for another couple of days, and if it doesn't get better, I'll go and see the doc.

Still need to clear out my mother-in-law's house - I've done quite a bit over the last week, but there is still stuff in there, so more work ahead. They want the keys back by Monday, and I'll be glad to have it all behind me. My own house looks like a bomb exploded, simply because I don't have the time to do anything. Whenever I come home, all I do is grab the painkillers and curl up on my bed. And I've got my mom coming on the 12th, for my birthday...panic!! *lol*

I will most likely flunk the weigh in on the 15th, by the way. It's my birthday on the 14th, and for the first time since we got married in 2006, my husband and I will go out for a meal together. We're on the Hardrock Cafe's VIP list, and I'll be damned if I don't everything that I want to that night!! *lol* I'll make up for it the week after, promise!

Looks like everybody else is doing great, congrats to you all. And Justina, glad that things are looking better, and that everything has turned out well. :)

San - your weight is coming down brilliantly... Another week with more than 1% is fantastic... You have done great for the team to get so many exercise points while injured... I think that you should go to the doctor's now as I am worried in case you exacerbate any problems by doing too much... Even athletes have to rest when they get injured...

You are bound to be looking forward to seeing your mother. I imagine that she will not get over from Germany too often. I am sure that she will understand that your house is bound to look like a bomb has dropped... Anyone's would under the circumstances... Frankly - you are amazing to do all you do and look after a disabled child.

Enjoy your celebrations on 14th... You deserve it... Everyone - including all the "always skinny" people indulge themselves on their birthday... It is not our behaviour on key dates like our birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas that condemn us to being fat - it is the way that we behave on all the other three hundred and fifty something days of the year...

Feb. 8 __329.4 -.6_____
ex. points:_21____
mini chall. points: _7____

I was lower lat Saturday, but I've had stomach problems and hopefully today's weight is still being effected by that. I've also been taking a corticosteroid which can result in weight gain, but hopefully since it is a nasal inhalant I won't have that effect.

I'm not discouraged in the least. I've realized this week how locked into the changes I've become. It's the new me and I know this is happening and lasting as I've never been in this place before.

Team GOLD is one step closer to victory! Congratulations on another successful week!

Thanks San! :)

WELL DONE EVERYONE!! What a great week!! :grouphug:

Here are my results (from my score sheet) - considering that I have a difficult week behind me - I am happy with them:

Feb. 8 last week I lost 2 lbs & current weight is 257 lbs (0.77%) [overall during the challenge: 14 lbs lost & 5.17%]
ex. points: 11
mini chall. points: 6
