Weight-Loss WL competition TEAM GOLD

Weight-Loss
Its a pity that you do not have a close friend or relative that you can confide in... :hug2:

I really hope that things look brighter for you soon.

OMEGA - Thank you. It's not about not having close friends/family - it's the nature of his job (gov.ment)
I am blessed to have great friends and a close family -even if they are only available to me on skype right now.

SAN & ANNA - Thanks for your support - it means a lot to me.

blueberries
banana
spinach
bell pepper
jalepeno
tomato
onion

I had 2 servings of raw spinach alone.

wow good job Quercus!

I was terrible today
No exercise. & i barely ate. I had force myself to eat something.
Today i had : a slightly burnt garlic bread & a bowl of blueberries. Oh and I had a kombucha drink & now i m having a cup of herbal tea. That's it. My weight dropped.
Before you say anything - i know it's not healthy - but sometimes you can't help it.
So i am determined to eat properly tomorrow, as i am fully aware that not eating will throw my body into a "starvation mode" & that will stop my weight-loss.
So I promise to exercise tomorrow & eat my portions of vegetables & Fruits (which usually never an issue for me)

ps/feeling better - things are looking better for now.

I gained this week, but I'm not too worried. I think it's related to TOM. So next week should be better. Fruit and veggie challenge will be easy for me this week. I'm still getting over the shock of how many calories I mindlessly drink! wow!

I did good on the fruit and veg for Friday, had courgette, mushrooms, onion, cucumber tomatoes, banana, and blueberries.

I've just realised that today (sat for me) I still need one more fruit,,,, but I'm full and out of call so think I'll miss out on the point. I had heaps of veg again today, so all good.

LOL Anna - I think that tomatoes should be able to count as either a fruit or a vegetable since (although everyone uses them as a vegetable) they are officially a fruit

if you had tomato again you might be ok...

Hang in there Wanna! I'm happy to here it isn't worrying you. It happens and a temporary water gain won't penalize the competition unless it happens at the very end.

having a crappy food day: eating too little again...i wish i had my appetite back..the scale was ridiculously low this morning.
it's 4 20pm and all i had today is a vegan cookie and banana. So one fruit right there.
I am drinking now a veggie juice - which has at least 2 portions of veggies and 1 portion of fruit.
I am planning on having a toastie later - i bought some forest ham - will have it with tomato - another fruggie :D
I also bought more kombucha drink..and I ll have herbal tea and water. I make sure I drink enough at least.
Also planning on doing some exercise today.
Hopefully things get back to normal on Monday.

Ah Justine - I really feel for you.

I can fully understand how difficult things are for you. I do hope that things get back to normal for you soon.

You have done really well to get some fruit and vegetable points.

It is good to see that you have got some ham - and plan on eating it later... We all need protein...

Maybe some milk would be something that you can face while you are off your food... It gives us protein and calcium...
Or maybe yoghurt... I eat a lot of yoghurt myself... 0% Greek yoghurt for instance is an amazingly healthy food and has a lot of protein and calcium...

I do hope that you do manage to get some exercise done tomorrow... Not for challenge points or even for your weight loss ambitions - but because exercise can help us feel better... It causes all sorts of seratonin and endorphins to be released that help us to feel more positive about things...

Hey Omega, thanks for your kind words. :)

I am not a vegetarian - but I don't eat much dairy/meat. We are pretty much trying to have a plant based diet. (after doing tons of research + watching some pretty good documentaries on nutrition)
We do get our calcium/protein from plants/legumes. Plus we have fish 2x a week, and other meat 2x a week too.
For dairy I love frozen kefir, feta & occasional treats (ice cream. parmesan etc)

You are absolutely right about the exercise! I was not up for much today but i went to the track and did an hour walking - it felt pretty good.
So full house today :) 2points for exercise and 1point for challenge.

Hope you guys are having a great weekend!

Justina - I am so pleased that the exercise helped. I am a PCOS lady - which means that my hormones are pretty screwed up...

Mood swings were a major aspect - and I used to suffer terribly with them before I lost weight... It was like living on an emotional knife edge... when things were going well for me they were going very very well for me - you could swear that I was the happiest person alive - but then (maybe triggered by something that others would consider minor) I was apt to plummet to the depths of despair... I found that regular exercise (even simply regular walking) was amazingly beneficial... I felt much more balanced...

If truth is told I am not currently doing any exercise that I wouldnt be doing if there was no challenge... I am totally addicted to the salsa and zumba... I know the level of exercise that I need to do to keep things right and I happily top up with walking...

Legumes are great... I eat a lot of baked beans too... to help with the protein and fibre...

I would encourage anyone and everyone to consider 0% Greek yoghurt in their food plan as it really helps out my protein and calcium... I didnt eat much of it until a friend raved about it to me... I wouldnt currently come close to my protein and calcium targets without it... I avoid a lot of other dairy...

LOL and absolutely tons of fruit.

on Saturday I had the following:
butternut squash, white onion, courgette, broccoli, carrot
apricots, apples, clementine oranges, blueberries

For exercise I did
about 20 mins outdoor walking
1 hour salsa lesson
1 hour zumba class

It was our 1 hour private salsa lesson where our teacher works with us on our current salsa routine... LOL the routine is about 4 minutes long which is quite a long routine... its a memory test as well as a chunk of exercise every time we do it... LOL the teacher told us yesterday that our routine is now the longest that he has choreographed and his current show routine is 2 minutes long... We just keep seeing new steps and asking for them to be slotted in :)

Max points again for me for Saturday...

Its a shame that the weight loss isnt going better... My food was good, the calorie balance was there but the weight isnt really coming down...

Hey Omega,
that's awesome that you have found a life style that suits your needs! & exercise has great benefits for you!
I do see you are zumba addict - it's an awesome thing!! I look forward to becoming a sport addict again! :D
I know i gonna have to give it time...build back up my fitness levels first. Step by step. Been there before and I ll get there again!
Greek yoghurt - i very occasionally eat it - make tzatziki sauce - but on it's own I dont like the taste, so I have found alternatives. But it's good for you.

You are doing really well with food/exercise! Don't worry about the weight! the closer you get to your goal the slower the pounds will disappear.

My body really holds onto weight... It took forever to do the final bit on the way down... and being inclined to be very obsessive was about the most focused person on the planet... At first the weight dropped off me - but I didnt change but the weight loss certainly slowed down...

I took about 13 months to lose the first 147 pounds (10 and a half stone) and then took another 13 months to lose the final 21 pounds (stone and a half)...

I suspect that it will take quite a long time to lose the weight that I gained last year with the whole house relocation thing - never mind the weight that I gained the year before when Rod was ill...

OK..it's official my body is in starvation mode...even though i ate like less than 500 kcal yesterday I put on weight. (still lower than my weigh in on Friday though - that's good)
So today I am eating properly. I had toast for breakfast with ham and cream cheese.
I just had a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.(fruit portion)
I am making myself a Greek pasta salad for lunch (3-4 portions of veggies)
I ll probably have more fruit in the afternoon.
And I made it to the gym!! I did 50 min elliptical & 10 min bike. I feel good.
Now i have tons of housework to do - so more exercise.

It looks like i'll have all the points I can get today.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! :grouphug:

Good for you Justina.

I was feeling a little down today, can't say specifically why, and usually when this mode hits, hide the pastries, pasta, or anything saturated with carbohydrates because I would eat until my teeth hurt.

The good thing was I went to the foodstore yesterday and I stocked up on fruits, my healthy choice soups and my veggie juices. Let's just say when the craving hit, I did not want any of those so I put on some tennis and went walking by the beach in what I had on, no prep, just added socks, tennis, my ipod and went.

Lets just say after walking about 4 miles the cravings were gone and I was able to have a healthy lunch, half a baked potato, and half a wendys chilli. I will probably add a juice to the mix and see what dinner would do.

Just checking in with everyone, hope that this week brings blessings, and I am trying not to go on the scale today, and its hard, but I don't think I can overcome my yearnings for pasta if I go on the scale right now and its up, so I will just have to look at it tomorrow.

Until then, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EVERYBODY, AND TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME....:seeya:

Well done ladies for getting the exercise done. You are both doing great.

Add me to the list of people who's weight is up today... Even though my weight loss was poor on Friday - I am now heavier than that...

It happens to us all.

I did my walking outdoors too. My pedometer is currently on 16,911.

My fruit and veg stand at
apples, apricots, clementine oranges
carrot, leek, cabbage, swede

I shall probably have blueberries later on...

edit

I did have the predicted blueberries :)

Hey all, I'm surprised at how difficult it is for me to get the fruit part of this challenge. I know that I don't eat much fruit, but thought 2 pieces a day would be easy, but I seem to pack 2 pieces to take to work , and then don't eat one, and then suddenly it's the next day. D'oh.

So I've missed 2 days so far, but have managed it today so that's good. I eat a lot of veges so no worries there.

Exercise has been good. I had a rest day yesterday, but have done my hour at least, every other day.

LOL Anna - well done for keeping your exercise levels good and managing to have your fruit on some of the days.

If truth be told - you will come to no harm if you eat a lot of veg - even if you do not get so much fruit... For me (and for most people) it is the other way around... The health benefits of fruit and veg tend to come in colour groups so it is quite important to try to get a range of colours there - but it doesnt matter too much whether it is fruit or veg... If anything the veg is healthier because it doesnt have the natural sugars and tends to be lower calories...

You'd think with a name like banana you'd be good on the fruits.

I'm the same way with fruit, but fortunately I've been in the habit of eating greek yogurt for breakfast with blueberries. That leaves me only having to remember 1 fruit. Also I installed an ice maker in my freezer yesterday, so I will be making smoothies for breakfast and that will take care of my fruit requirements and possibly the veggies too.

I've gotten all my points so far this week for the mini challenge and exercise. I need to reign in my calories a bit to make sure the weight keeps up. I find that lots of strenuous outdoor work makes me ravenous. I've got more energy than I have in a long time!

I wanted to say thank you again to everybody in team gold for doing so great and keeping me super motivated. I can't wait to win this, but I'll be sad when it's over. Keep it up everyone!
