Weight-Loss WL competition TEAM GOLD

Weight-Loss
Oh team, I am here to apologize in advance.

I caught the flu, its going around rampant in my town. Most people caught it for Christmas or New Years, me and my always late self just caught it this Thursday/Friday. Had to leave work Friday it was so bad.

The doc wanted me on bed rest for a bit, I told him it was too early in the year, just please let me see what I could do this weekend and we'll go from there.

So I missed Saturday and Sundays work out, the good thing was I was too tired and miserable to really eat or drink so I got the challenge points for those days yippee.

Got to excerising today, made it, and do you want to know what, a concerned neighbour bought me some OJ because the doc said keep hydrated, drink plenty fluids, and I just drank a glass of it.... ah well... win some you lose some...

So if my stats on Friday don't look good I apologize, I don't forsee losing anymore exercise points, but I doubt I will be able to stick to the drink no calories as I have to amp up on the OJ until I completely kick this bug.:seeya:

Poor you transparent, take care of yourself!

I think the challenge is a good one Quercus, it has made me consider the milk I ad to my coffee (they are the only cals I drink apart from alcohol which I'm not drinking at the moment), and I'm ok with not getting the points. I think for some people it will be a real eye opener.

Transparent - these things happen. From a challenge perspective GOLD have taken such a commanding lead by its "no excuses" stance that the occasional lapse due to illness should not be a major issue... We will remain in a commanding lead.

From a "drink no calories" perspective people suggest "drinking OJ" as a simple solution to a double requirement for addressing flu symptoms... People develop a sore throat and a boost in vitamin C helps fend off such things...

It is not actually the best way of fending off such things...

A glass of orange juice gives you nothing that the actual whole orange does not give you. There is greater benefit in eating the actual whole orange...

The reason for this is simple...

If you squeeze up the juice of five oranges, a lot of the calories you have are in the juice... You drink it back and it gives little more satisfaction than a glass of water... Anyone hungry will probably still be hungry and look around for something "proper" to eat...

In comparison if you line five oranges up in a row and eat those you have all the fibre. That satisfies you and you feel you have eaten something... The fibre is also one of the good things that our bodies shout out for... You are much less likely to go off and eat something else... There are also good things in whole fruit.

When I was a member of both Weight Watchers and Slimming World (their biggest competitor in England) I could have eaten oranges freely as part of either program... I would have been penalised and charged points or syns if I had had simply the juice...

A glass of fruit juice is far from the healthy thing that people are apt to think of it as being... People trying to lose weight would generally not want put spoon after spoon of sugar into mug of warm water and drink it... They think of orange juice as being healthy because orange is a fruit...

But sugar cane is a plant too... People forget that...

It is a sugary liquid - even if the sugar is from a fruit and not a sugar cane plant...

Too much sugar of any origin can really not be a wise choice... Eating whole fruit causes a natural limit to such things...

I ate several clementines yesterday.

Every day I have 1000mg vitamin C as part of my vitamin / mineral / supplement mix...

I haven't had fruit juice in years.

Sorry to hear you have the flu Transparent.

I missed my exercise yesterday. I have a sinus infection that's effecting my ear, jaw, and stomach. I missed Friday's exercise, but I got in Sat. and Sun., but yesterday I felt worse and today isn't going well either.

On the bright side I've not drank a calorie and I've lost 1.4 pounds so far this week.

Transparent & Quercus,
I hope you guys get well & feel better soon!
Big hugs :hug2:

I did really well yesterday - 65 min eliptical!! & zero calories in drinks!
Scale is looking good so far - seems like the water retention is gone :D

Quercus - Well done for staying nutritionally on track and losing weight... Nutrition is the most important aspect of weight control. You are doing well - you are losing weight and we are all here because we want to do that...

As I said to Transparent - our high exercise levels mean that we can drop occasional points and still retain a firm lead...

Now to get you healthy and fighting fit...

On Saturday you said that you were feeling fine - but I didn't like the sound of a mention of earache that I saw somewhere (maybe your diary)... Now it is back... I think that you would be best off mentioning this to a doctor... It may be that you are going to need antibiotics to shift it... Don't sit in misery for ages before going to see the quack...

Hurry up and get better so that I can nag you to do that exercise... :)

The tornadoes sound super scary...
I hope that you manage to keep power... LOL I know that we were in a little Greek village we were always having power cuts... LOL and water cuts too... I am glad that England is good for things like that...

I am always doing exercise in the house... I love putting you tube tracks on and zumba dancing to them... I don't even log it (but I do log my steps on another diet forum so I guess that maybe I do)...

I am still 100% for exercise and nutrition points...

I did my three salsa classes last night (Tuesday), the first two were salsa and the third was a Cuban / crossbody fusion speciality class.

I have a zumba class tonight and will go out walking soon. I hate it that my treadmill is out of action while the weather is bad... Thankfully the snow is melting so I am taking the ice grippers off my shoes... LOL they are great when you are on ice or snow but you go sliding around as soon as you go into a shop...

Hi guys, thanks for all of the well wishes, I still feel a bit off, but nothing I can't handle. The antibiotics I am on are not treating me very well, I am not allergic to it, (thank God) but I have the most common side effect from it. And I already started the course so... as they say, "anyday you wake up without six feet of dirt on top of you is a good day, so say thank you God and move on."

Only got in 1hour of exercise today, still feeling a bit weak, but I did it.:hurray:

Just checking in on everyone, I see other than Quercus everyone is doing awesome, so good going team.

Quercus, hope you feel better soon.:biggrinjester:

Any word in the challenge for next week? I have been super busy and unable to read thru all the postings on the other thread.
I haven't done very well on the challenge this week. I think that might be a big problem for me and my weight loss. I am going to have to continue this as a personal challenge next week as well!

Well done on the exercise that everyone is doing.

Also on the careful drinking... The great thing about mini challenges are that they make us question the things that we were choosing not to question... Based on the struggles being reported - many people were clearly not questioning the amount of calories that they were drinking... The challenge may have given people new places to look to change when their weight loss is not all that they would like...

I am still limiting myself to diet drinks.
I did my walking yesterday and a 1hr zumba class.

I'm still on maximum points.

I think they are just working out next week's challenge at the moment. Hopefully I can find out soon, cause its Friday for me in a few hours.

Looking forward to seeing some losses here in the team!

Quick update: I'm on target with everything, but there is no way I will be able to do any exercise today. :/ I fell down a flight of stairs yesterday while carrying a wardrobe, and landed on my back. So at the moment my back is really sore, I've got a headache from banging my head on the floor, and I'm covered in bruises. Fortunately the wardrobe wedged itself into the staircase and didn't land on top of me.

Anyway - I'm still here, just have to take it easy for a while. I might try to start walking again tomorrow, so I might be able to get at least a few points.

And Omega....you were right! For some reason, the number 245 was stuck in my head, and I thought that was it. But after reading your post, I went to get the old notepads and whatnot out, and I did indeed get lower than that. You know my weight loss better than I do, go figure!!! *lol*

San - I'm sorry to hear about the accident... There is no way that you can exercise after doing that... Our team is so good that we can beat all opposition and lose points when things like that happen... our backs are very special - so take it easy until your back tells you that the time is right. LOL our heads are pretty special too so I hope that the headache eases soon.

LOL I am pleased that I reminded you of quite how well you did last time... Stick with me kid... you will do it all again and better. :)

San got the honour of setting the new mini challenge...

The new mini challenge which starts Friday is

mini challenge....

How about.....

'Include at least two portions of fruit and two portions of vegetables into your daily diet.'

I should be able to get all the points on offer from this mini challenge...

LOL I think that San guessed that since I have been known to make people's lives a misery (including San's) by extending their fruit and vegetable boundaries.......

:D This challenge is a walk in the park for me :smilielol5:

Quick question - was Quercus' challenge last week worth 1 or 2 points a day? I think it's 1 - just wondering.
& what is San's challenge worth? 1 or 2?

Thanks!

I made my challenge 1 point a day. I thought that would keep the focus more on weightloss and exercise.
