Hit the gym this morning for my very first Dedicated Cardio Day and guess what?

!!30 minutes on the stair mill!!
View attachment 24978

Admittedly, I only got through the 30 minutes because of the guy next to me. When I first walked in, I almost didn't even use the machine because this guy was kicking such ass .... He was literally running on this machine. It was freakin insane. But I swallowed my pride and got on anyway. I was going much, much slower than him, but I did stay at L 4 for 15 mins, which is a record for me. I kept spying on the guy's stats next to me and he burned over a 1000 calories and never let up on intensity until the last 5 min. He was on for an hour and that's why I stayed on for 30 mins. I would have felt like a real loser had I stopped at 20 mins. But now I know I can do it! It totally sucks, but I can do it.

I also walked 20 min and did 25 crunches.

Well done, Jenni! Half an hour? That´s bloody amazing, I don´t care what Superman next to you did. Prepare for soreness tomorrow...

I'm not sure how to get rid of the one step in back - we have a crawl space and it's 10" high in back ...
A small ramp.

WOW Jen. You aced it! :D

Very impressive Jenni. It doesn't appear you need to worry about that single step in the back anytime soon.

Ramps are for Luddites. Given your recent mastery, just get the stair mill to run in reverse and mount it at the back door. Or you could install an escalator. Have you priced out elevators? I would think you could adapt a power lift gate from the back of a truck to deal with that pesky step. And those are just conventional solutions. How about thinking outside the box?

Just to be sure... he wasn't actually trying to get to the top was he? I mean, I'm sure all you lovely ladies here have a story about a stubborn man doing something stupid that you could recount. Not that I'm trying to belittle my gender, but, well, I could probably confess to one or two moments of stubborn stupidity lmao!

Fantastic work tho Jenni :) well done x

As for the step... I've seen ramps that look ok but it does depend on the design matching the house. Both solid and timber decking can work. I'm guessing it's not a real issue at the moment, but worth considering now how you'd do it if you had to retro-fit at a later date.

I swear, he was not human! :svengo:

Thx, Cate! :D

What about this?

He wasn't human, Stan!

Yeah, I have some research to do on ramps and such ... so much to learn in the building process - it's like a full time job!

Reading all the hoopla this morning about Trump and Steve Bannon. Bannon is an alt-right nutcase who own Breitbart news, a far- right nutcase media outlet, and Bannon was also Trump's chief strategist for several months before being fired. Apparently he is writing some sort of tell all about how Trump is a treasonous, narcissistic fool. As if the majority of sane Americans don't already know that. I try not to get too caught up in politics, because well ... it's depressing, but lately it's hard not to given our government has turned into a Reality TV show. It's truly embarrassing.

Sorry for the political rant.

Hit the gym. Upper day. Here's how it went down:

After yesterday, I could not do 15 min on the stair mill knowing very well that I can do 30 min! Damn that super human guy. He's put a dent in my slacking. Also, I think the internal/external rotations I have been doing for shoulder are working because my shoulder is feeling better! I don't trust it 100% yet, but it's not as tweaky.

Still sticking to my 1500 cal goal. It's amazing how much you can eat with 1500 cals. I even eat Velveeta!

Goals for my diary:

1. Plan daily activities and diet.
2. Track successes and misses
3. Get honest about my flaws and how they prevent me from my goals
4. Be equally as honest about my strengths and how they can help me
5. Record weight weekly & measurements monthly

Hi, Jenniquest!
I've just found your diary, and I had to go back to the beginning so I could catch up. I really like the goals quoted above. I'll admit, I'm not particularly good at planning things out, so I really admire this.

The self honesty really stands out to me too. I know how tough it can be to look yourself in the eye (mediphorically?) and subdue to all the stinging pain that comes with it. More power to you!

:rotflmao:

That´s very good news!

Yes, it is! Hopefully now I won't need a shot in the arm, lol!

Don't be. In Australia, people rant every day about him, but mostly they laugh. At him. Not at Americans. It just doesn't seem real.

I will not be reading "Fire & Fury." I've known for quite a long time now, just by reading his Tweets, that this man has the emotional maturity and impulse control of a 15 year old. Actually, I've met more mature 15 year olds... maybe a 10 year old?? I really don't know what to compare it to. Such an embarrassment to our country.

Hey, thanks for stopping by! I've slacked a bit on my original goals ... it's a process - 2 steps forward, 1 step back. But slowly I trudge on ... :)

It is my extra calorie day!!

I get 800 xtra cals today. It was supposed to be 700, but I could not eat my cool whip last night (100 cals) because my hubby ate it all! So, I just saved the cals for today. I'm not sure what my splurge will be. It has to be something I can count and track. IOW, I can't make a pan of brownies and eat half of it and say, okay that was my extra cals. I have to be able to actually count the cals in whatever I eat because I don't want to go over the splurge limit.

In other news, I was thinking today about how much my rheumatoid arthritis symptoms have improved since I started exercising. For the past few years, I've been in some kind of pain pretty much every day. It's not always bad, but it's always something ... However, in the past several weeks, I have had many pain free days. More than I have had in a very long time. The shoulder thing is still there, but it's only painful during certain movements and seems to be improving. I have known for some time now that there was a connection between my stress levels and my RA symptoms. The more stressed I am, the more pain I'm in. I don't know that the exercise is actually helping with the disease, but it seems to be helping quite a lot with stress, which keeps the disease more manageable, if that makes sense.

That´s really good to hear! RA does tend to react well to exercise as long as you don´t go too crazy. Stress is part of that but not all of it. Eating more veggies and less processed crap (which is how you seem to be tackling this thing) generally reduces inflammation a little as well.

Exercise improves my mood & reduces my reaction to stress. It's great that you have been having pain free days Jen. I love that you were only just under your cals by 2. You are a woman on a set path xo

Happy Monday, peeps!

Here's my workout:

Today, I increased weight on bench press, rows, incline presses, and pushdowns! The main reason, tbh, is that all the high reps were making my workouts waaaay too long.

Stayed on track 1500 cals yesterday and plan is to do the same today. :D

Decent reason. Plus: you´re doing weight training, so I´m sure you´re not JUST interested in improving your endurance. Also: you´re getting stronger, yay you!

Just read through your whole thread. Fantastic job on the stair climber! I hate that thing. Also, beautiful house you're building.
