Oh, I also went to the gym today but I'm too lazy to post the workout. It was lower body and I did 6 sets of squats - 3 bw and 3 front squats. Plus all the other stuff I do. It was good!

:D At that price, you´re totally right. I was comparing to what I paid for tennis racquets back in the day...

Fantastic on those lost inches! I also think a reset can be very beneficial sometimes. This is not a static journey and we definitely need to take a step back and re-evaluate occasionally.

I think I may have the flu but I'm not sure. My husband and daughter have it. Husband was down for 2 days and still feeling bad. I have a headache and have been feeling more anxious than usual the past few days. It's hard for me to tell. I have not had the flu in over 20 years. Everyone in my house will get sick as a dog, and I might get a slight headache, have diarrhea, or feel a little anxious.

I have wondered if I do not get the flu because of my overactive immune system? Maybe I do get it, but to a lesser degree. I've definitely felt off for the past few days, but not really sick. Weird.

If your husband and daughter have the flu (as in influenza) they´ll be sick for two weeks. Anything that´s starting to feel better after a day or four is a cold, not the flu. Having said that, some people do get less sick than others; it´s quite possible that your overactive immune system has something to do with that.

Oh no, sending huge hugs Jenni.

I've only had proper influenza twice; both when I was a child. First time I remember waking up and my mum had phoned for the doctor to come and visit to confirm it was flu and nothing worse. Second time was as a teenager when we went away on a family holiday for the week in Wales. As we arrived in the town on the Monday I started to feel unwell, spent the whole time pouring with sweat in bed, then finally started to feel better as we left again on the Friday.

Worst thing of all was that they both happened in the school holidays so I missed zero days off school

I hope it isn't proper flu as it can really floor you. I'm sure I read somewhere that different people have different levels of immunity to things such as influenza - I think it was on a documentary about the black death actually. I'm off to google stuff lol. Hope the whole household is feeling better soon.

Really hoping you don't have the flu. The fun time with your girlfriend sounds great though! I love doing active things with my friends. Actually, most of the friends I've made since I moved 2 years ago have come from the gym.

Thanks Lama, Stan, Cory - hugs!

I do not think it is influenza. I am actually feeling quite okay now. Hubby has had manflu for 3 days, but he is on the mend too. Yay! I guess it was just a cold.

At any rate, I took the day off and walked my dog at the park. Also gave her a much needed bath!

A sort - of funny story ... so I am sitting and talking on speaker phone with my mom. My hands are on my lap and she's telling me a long story. I start rubbing the tops of my thighs near the knee and feel a lump that was not there before ... WTF??? I am like, "Mom, I have lumps on top of my legs!!" She freaks for a sec and when I explain they are more like hills than softballs, she asks if it could be muscle since I have been working out ...

It is in fact muscle folks! I have muscles in my legs now! :smilielol5::rotflmao:

To be specific, I have feelable vastus medialis ....

My guess is the stair mill? My knees have been feeling much better these past 3 weeks or so and much less pain. My guess is because this muscle is getting stronger and it helps support the knee.

For all the suffering that damn stair mill has given me, it's really motivational to feel some results.

:coolgleamA:

Ooo building up your vastus is in fact a very good thing, especially for women as most of us tend to instability on the medial part of the knee and the vastus pulls your knee outward a bit, which can definitely help an already annoyed knee. Lol on your hilly legs and respect for Mom figuring out what it was right away!

Weight - 196

On track with diet. By today's calculations, I'll be around 1350. Give or take a few.

Was sweating pretty good after stair mill and squats and deads kept the sweat going. Tried back squats again, but failed. Shoulder gets cranky and I spend the whole set worried about it. Think I'll stick to front squats.

Yes, the knee seems to have improved a lot since I first started lifting! Haha, Mom always figures it out! :D

I love that story! Go Jen! :D

lmao, thanks Cate! :D

Loooooove it when I can feel those muscles. Congrats on your newly discovered VMO! I think front squats are a good thing if you're having issues with your shoulder. It could be that your shoulders aren't strong enough yet to support the weight (there's more shoulder involved in squatting than a lot of people realize), but if you genuinely have shoulder problems then a front squat is a great alternative. My brother almost never back squats anymore and if he does, he only will do it with a safety squat bar because he has some lingering issues from a shoulder injury several years ago.

Hello! I slept terrible last night. :( I think maybe because my carbs were so low (under 70). Carbs seem to help me sleep. So I've already ate a plain baked potato today, lol. I need sleep! Will probably work in a nap here shortly. I did get my tired butt to the gym. Here's how it went:

It was an okay workout. Kinda did the minimal to make it feel like something because energy was low. Calorie deficit might be hitting me a bit too, but hopefully some rest will do the trick.

Those are among the best kinds of curves to get. It's great to see and feel results. You must be stoked!

I am! Thanks and I agree! :D

VMO FTW! The L shoulder has been bothering me since Nov. I probably just need to see the ortho and get a shot and get it over with already, lol! I don't mind the front squats, though. They are very challenging ina different way than back squats and I feel them really working my core, which is great because I'd love to have some abs this summer (if I can keep the diet in check, of course!)

I heard a radio program about sleep this week on CBC which is our public funded broadcaster in Canada. The programs are generally researched and involve reputable interviewees with solid information. The impact of poor sleep is in multiple aspects of health. They had done studies with cancer and Alzheimer's, mental sharpness, weight... I knew something of this, but it was interesting to listen to an overview and a discussion of things that one might try to improve matters.

I've personally seen an impact on my resting heart rate and my HRV numbers. I know what it's like to have to push through the lack of energy and motivation that goes with missed sleep. While I generally sleep easily, there are times when the mind gets going that it's impossible to get to that point. I always tell Spice that a clear conscience makes the best pillow. She lets me know that a psychopath has no conscience to burden. I'm sticking to my version.

Generally, I have no trouble sleeping, but last night was one of those night's when I was just very restless. I think it's the lower carbs!
