It's been a long day, and I almost didn't go to the gym, because I reeeeeealllly didn't feel like it, but I went!

Well, today I did squats with the olympic bar. The squats themselves were not very hard, but my damn arm hurt! You know, the one that's been giving me trouble? Apparently, my arm hates hyper extending with the bar on my shoulders. I'm fine if I do the same movement with no resistance, but with weight it kinda hurts. Not super bad, but a little. Just have to see what happens, I guess. Also added weight to leg press and hip abduction machine. Trying to get some lower rep exercises mixed in here with the higher ones so my workouts are not 90 mins long! Only 10 mins on the stair mill today because I walked my dog at the park - it was 65 degrees and beautiful. Nice break from the terribly cold weather we've had.

With respect to the arm pain while squatting, are you actively supporting the bar with your shoulders/upper back or just kind of letting it rest there? I only ask because I was getting shoulder/arm pain during squats and got told that I need to basically support the bar with my upper back muscles. The best way I can think to describe it is to pinch your shoulder blades together up and back. It provides a platform for the bar to rest on without putting added stress on the shoulder joint.

I think I'm supporting it with my back .... I mean I did a few reps with no left hand at all ... mainly used it for balance. I've had an issue with this arm/shoulder for weeks now. It really hates certain movements - like pulling off a shirt or lying on my side with my head in my palm. For the most part, I've been able to work around it at the gym. It does seem to be improving, but it's slow to get back to normal. Anywho, I will try your idea of pinching next time and see if it helps take some of the resistance off that side. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

You're welcome! I got it from a guy who's been doing some combination of strongman and powerlifting since the 80s so I definitely trust his advice there.

Started my period, so I took 2 days off from the gym. Made it there this morning, but my energy was low and I skipped triceps because I was spent.

Remember how I got into that car wreck at the end of Nov? Well they have finally decided to total my car, so yesterday I bought a new one!

Good morning! I've been neglecting the journal. My diet has not been the best and that's probably why. I have gone to the gym two days this week. Just need to get my diet back on track. It's so hard to once I've fallen off the rails. Going to make another effort today.

Good for you coming back in here & fessing up Jen. You can do this, even if it means talking firmly to the chocolates:D xo

Hi Jenni, I am Jiang. I really impressed with your discussion. Carrying around too much weight feels is very uncomfortable, and it can also damage your health. So daily workout is very necessary for our body. Before 6 months I had bout some sports equipment from TrainingMalls and started exercise with them. Now I am fit and fine and reduce my colostral level.

TGIF!!!!

Good morning peeps!

I have decided to do a RESET. New weigh in, new measurements, new commitment. Here are the numbers ....

Weight: 198

Measurements:
Waist - 33
Upper arm - 14.5
Hip- 46
Thigh - 25.5
Bust - 43

Goals

Upper/Lower Split Routine - 4 times week
Dedicated Cardio Session - 2 times week
Stair mill - 90 min week (cardio and warm ups included)

Calorie goal - 1350

I have reduced my calorie goal for a few reasons. First, I wasn't seeing much movement on the scale or measuring tape with 1500 plus a cheat meal and I think it was a bit ... discouraging? I am hoping I'll see more action with the calorie drop and this will help me stay motivated, if that makes sense? If I start to drop too quickly, I can always add a planned cheat meal here and there to balance things out. I just definitely want to see some movement on the scale and measuring tape. I know I am getting stronger, but my vanity demands more than that to stay motivated. I'm a night eater, so I will be eating light during the day and saving calories for dinner and a snack before bed.

Today's Food Plan:
Coffee, cream - 60 cals
Protein shake - 140 cals
Tuna/mayo - 140 cals
Ground bf, brocc & chz, Cott chz - 699 cals
Greek yogurt - 160 cals
cocoa & cool whip - 130 cals
Total - 1332

It snowed here on Wed, so I have not been to the gym in 2 days. I have never seen that much snow where I live (SE USA). We must've had over 6 inches - which is a lot for us! The city did not plow our road (of course) but today it's supposed to get to 50 degrees and most of it ought to melt and then I can journey out to the gym.

I have been thinking about taking up racquetball. There are courts at the YMCA. I may stop by the sporting store today and buy a racquet!

On the house front - many delays due to weather. They are supposed to pour the footings as soon as things dry out and clear up. I'm hoping this coming week!

I'm back. LOL. I just decided to check my starting stats from page one to compare, and I have lost a little on the measuring tape!!!!

First Post Page 1 - November 15 2017

Starting Weight: 198.6
Measurements:
Arm: 15"
Bust: 43"
Waist: 34 1/2"
Hip: 47"
Thigh: 26 1/2"

Today's Measurements:
Weight: 198

Measurements:
Waist - 33
<---- 1.5 inches lost
Upper arm - 14.5 <------ 0.5 inches lost (1 for both)
Hip- 46 <-------- 1 inch lost
Thigh - 25.5 <------ 1 inch lost (2 for both)
Bust - 43

Total - 5.5 inches lost!!!!

Wow, that makes me feel a little better! :D

Well done Jen. 5.5" is not to be sneezed at, that's for sure!
The US has been hit hard it seems by bad weather. I am glad that we don't get such cold weather here.
What racquet sport are you considering? Squash or tennis?

Well done on those inches! Can you borrow a racquet while you find out whether or not you´d be likely to stick with it?

Racquets - Lexus. Lexus - racquets. Racquet - New House. Hmm.

Racquets are cheap. I don't think I've ever paid over $30.00 CDN for a racquet and I've paid under 20. At a typical exchange rate, that's 15 bucks. Walmart is fine. I have a few of these kicking around so I can offer my opponent a choice in any duel should they think they are somehow disadvantaged with whatever they have to hand.

Eye protection is rather important as the ball's size, weight and speed can be permanently damaging to an eye. I'd definitely spend more on protecting eyes than on a racquet. How much quality of a racquet affects your game comes down to simple math. If the difference in performance - cheap to expensive, of a racquet is 80 to 98%, and as a player, you are beginning at 20% and you've worked up to 60% after 5 years of playing weekly for kicks:

(1/20 +1/80)^-1 vs (1/20 +1/98)^-1 for the beginner: cheap racquet is 16 to 16.61017 for the over priced racquet

(1/60 + 1/80)^-1 vs (1/60 + 1/98)^-1 for the regular player: cheap is 34.29 to 37.22 expensive racquet.

Spending the money for the marginal improvement of 0.6 (out of 50) for a beginner is outweighed by a bit of practice on the court which gets you up to about 34/50. The racquet makes a bit more of a difference (2.9/50) if you have acquired some skill. But just a bit more skill will overcome the difference in racquets.

Squash ... I think?! The one where you are in a small room and hitting it against the wall. I like the term "Squash" better than racquetball. I think I will use it instead! :D

I don't really know anyone who plays, so I just bought one. Well, actually, I bought two so my husband can play! The girlfriend is going to play tomorrow. She has played before but knows I haven't. It ought to be fun and I'm sure we'll have a few laughs!! :D

Hale, your post cracked me up! I did buy a racquet and by your standards, probably overpaid. I found it at the sporting goods store. It was $35 but included two balls and the protective glasses. The second racquet was $25. I still have the receipt. It's not too late for Wal Mart ... :D :D
