Cohen's Lifestyle Tips for a Cohen Newbie...

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
wow..

I had no idea it had been a week since I posted on here.

Its weird i read almost everyday, but don't post and have no idea why.

I guess its because I post daily on the other board and I am not sure how many read both, so I try to keep these posts different.

Ok.. well here is the break down...

Cheated, flat out Sunday... ate too many eggs....

Cheated on Tueday... had a big handful of dark chocolate chips... Moronic, I know...

Been 100% since then and I switched around how i eat.

I didn't gain anything on my cheats, just maintained weight..... and lost tiney amounts the days after them...

But a few days ago, I decided to turn things upside down.

I started eating all my meals 3, 2, 1 with the highest protein meal first. I think I shared on here the article I had read about having high protein meals for breakfast speeds your metabolisim up... plus out meal 3 is usually the meal with the most calories.

So... since I 've don that change 3 days ago, I've lost a total of 3 lbs! It could all just be a coincidence, but I think I just got used to the way I was eating and like Cate had pointed out before, perhaps I just needed to shake things up to start losing the weight again.

I've also not lost a lot this month, but as of today, have lost 3% of my Body Fat this month! Making it 7% since starting!

Whew...

Ok the other big news is my trip to New York.... I leave in 6-8 days depending on flights.

So... I was gong to go off plan while I was in New York... just because I was staying in a hostel and no place to cook, and this was sort of always my plan... plus last time I was there, I lost 5lbs, drinking like a fish and eating whatever... so I figured if i stayed "cohen friendly" and ohad a splurdge or tow, it wouldn't do any more damage than my previous 2 cheats... yes I know not the greatest thinging, but something my consultants and I have always known.

Well... plans have changed. I just found out that they have replaced the downstairs sitting area, to a full/mulitple oven, kitchen area with more fridges now (there was one when I stayed there ast time) plus all the pots and pans you need.

So... I sort of do not have an excuse to not stay on plan... at all. Origianally I was still going to go yogurt for breakfast every morning and then play the rest by ear not weighing and do whatever for lunch and dinner... but....

Now, I am staying on plan, as close as I can as I have no reason to deviate with having cooking facilities, plus basic ingridents provided.

This isn't to say I might not partake in some festive drinks on New Years in Time square or have that hot chocolate at Serindipities that I have heard so much about... (with a carb before it) Ha...

But it does mean, I will not be eating pizza, spagetii, chinese, and deli food the entire time I am there... This is how I ate last time and dropped the 5 lbs.

I think I will feel a lot better about my trip if I come back and don't have a ton of ground to make up, or start from even, plus I might come back even lighter eating better!

So... thats the plan. I'm going to hit Whole Foods when I get there and shop for everything I need for the week. I'm taking mini lunch bag with me, tea bags (do I really need that hot chocolate?... ok well maybe one ) and my digital scale.

I am sure I will get a few weird looks and have the TSA look at my bag when they see a few of the things in my luggage, but oh well!

So... how is that for a complete turn around?

I also think I am currently inspired by my recent weight loss. Nearly a lbs a day for the last 3 days. the only thing I change was the order I eat my meals... still eating the same thing. I went to the gym, but took it really easy, and this wait loss has been since then.

So... I'm also going to post from New York.... to keep me honest.. and I will post it all.... hopefully all the good.... and even the bad... but hopefully no need to post the Ugly!!!

I wonder if I would get a weird look if I'd ask for an all chesse, no crust veggie pizza Ha!

Woot!

I just realized with the last update... I hit my "overall weight" half way point... 218 was the heaviest I weighed.... I am at 173.1 today. Right now my goal is still at 130... I am not changing it till I get te Dexa Scan! Yay!

I started Cohen at 202/198 so I still haven't hit that midpoint... but soon!

Still 45lbs since I decided to take control and make changes is a big deal for me. I was 210 the last time I was in New York... so... if I get to 170 before I leave (I am sure I will) I will be 40lbs lighter since I was in the city! Hopefully I will continue the luck of loss I had the last time in the City and come back at 166 (I came back from NY at 206 the last time!

Ok.. so I am a totally believer in this theory now. Now this is the biggest loss I've had since the week I started... I honestly don't think it was the cheat, because I cheated a few weeks ago, and did not have loss like this afterwards.

It could just be weird timing... and my TOM not coming or not having Cheese the last few days and lots of little factors...

But from what I can tell, its all just the reverse order eating. Nearly 4 lbs in 4 days.

Although I do have to look at the cheese thing too.... I've never done 0 cheese before, but I doubt it would have this big of an impact, because why not just leave cheese off the plan all together?

Maybe its the double whammy of both.

So... my advise to anyone on that plateau... give this a shot. What can it hurt? You still are in plan 100% just going 3/2/1

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the trend continues till my Friday, the end of my 12 weeks! I need a total of 5lbs, from my Friday weigh in (so I have 3 to go) to break into 169 territory.

WOW!! Over 1/2 way!! Well done you clever girl!!
I noticed instantly that you were past the half way mark. The throwing things upside down I'm sure tricks your body. I very rarely have my main meal at night either & every second day I have quite a big breakfast. The other day I have fruit & yoghurt.
Good news about the cooking facilities. At least you'll have that option and can choose it for some of your meals.
Look out New York. Here comes CohenInNY!!

I was down to 170 today!!! I am so going to make it to 169 before I leave for my trip!!!!!

WOO HOO!!!!

Happy Holidays to all!

I am actually leaving for New York on Friday, not Monday... so yippie

CohenInAz

First of all CONGRATULATIONS - what a fantastic feeling to be at 169!!! I tried your theory of 3-2-1 and it worked!!! started yesterday (still eating the cheese option at lunch but cottage cheese) and yogurt for dinner and i lost 1 kg in one day - definitely keeping it up atleast till my birthday (jan10th) maybe i will break the 190 mark (currently at 196 down from 224) by then or even 189!!!
feeling so great - it just seems to be a new diet altogether just switching around the meals --- thanks again and happy new year to you...

cohen plan for vegeterian

Hi i'm new here & want to know vegeterian version of cohen plan.Any body suggest me full diet plan what to eat with volume. Thanks

kirti251, You would need to contact a Cohen's clinic to see if there is a vegetarian version and what it entails. Most of our options are seafood, chicken, egg, lean red meat or cheese but I know tofu can be an option. The egg and cheese is obviously out if you're vegan. Best to contact Cohen's direct. Cheers, cate.
CohenInAz, Hope you have a ball in New York!! New Years Eve- how exciting!! Well done you slimmer by the day girl, cheers, Cate

I'm back from NYC!

I had a lot of fun... did not stay on plan... even though I bought food from WHole Foods... I did have a Cohen Breakfast most days.... and then went as far away from plan as possible...

I only gained 2.5 lbs for being off plan for 10 days!!!!!

I also LOST 5 inches from my hips, waist and bust!!! Wee!!!

I think the only thing that saved me was walking.... walking and more walking... of and standing for 3 broadway shows didn't hurt either!

Back on plan today!

Hi! I've spent the last hour and a half reading every one of your posts on here, believe it or not. It's so inspirational! I've been on Cohens for just over 4 weeks and I've lost 10kg already! It's so exciting.

One thing you wrote about really hit home with me - that you eat when you are at home by yourself. I'm a high school teacher and I'm currently on summer holidays, so there is a lot of 'at home by myself' time, where I would normally be grazing all day. Also, if I go out, I find it hard avoiding spending stashes of money... so it's hard. My best friend is newly pregnant, so I've decided that I would learn how to knit, which keeps my mind and hands busy throughout the days. So far, so good.

Thanks for all your posts - I'll be keeping an eye out!
x

Hi CohenInAz- Welcome back. Good to hear the scales weren't too bad. I bet you ate less than you would once have done, even though you said it wasn't to plan. Hope you are able to "jump straight back on the bike". What Broadway shows did you see you lucky gal? Congrats on the 5" loss. That coat would be looking pretty darned good! Cheers, Cate.

January 7, 2008 2nd 12 weeks Day 12

Hi decisionmaker -

Its so sweet of you.. glad I could pay it forward! Cates journal was a huge help for me as well.... she is living proof this works and you can maintain!!!

Wow and 10kg in the first 4 weeks!!!! Amazing!!!!! I have been a 10lbs a month girl since I've started so that is so impressive!!!!

tI'm glad you could relate to the bored eating... the knitting helped me so much... it was an idea from the other forum and it just gave me something to do with my hands... instead of grabing that bag of chips or popcorn or whatever was around me... I used to knit for HOURS... it really made me aware of how thoughtless my eating habits were.

Now.. if I feel that way, I grab my computer or go back to knitting. I kicked the habit so well though.. I never finished the scarf for my trip! But I always have it ready to go just in case!

Being bored is one of those food triggers a lot of people don't talk about, its just we got in the mindless habit and eating kept our hands busy...

I look forward to hearing about your own journey! How much do you need to lose?

Cate!!! Um... I was bad in NYC.. I started good, even went to whole foods and bought the food I would need... and then as each day went by... I got worse and worse... ha. I was at least eating a Cohen Breakfast until the last 3 days.... also I tired to follow maintinace guidelines, which I realized today, is more than likely what saved me... It was mindful eating though... I realized what I was doing and was still selective... well sort of :) The Tick Tock Cafe Stuffed French Toast was no where NEAR anything we should eat :) But walking and following the basic guidelines saved me... and in away I think helped me realize that there is life past cohens! SO many people are afriad when they hit re-feed... I will have a positive outlook... because if I could do that and be ok.... and that was a rare special thing... I will be ok!

Broadway shows! I have a student ID so I did student rush tickets or standing tickets for everything... so cheap!

I stood for: Spring Awakening and Spamalot on Saturday.... I also had dinner at Sardies that night between shows... yummy.

I saw Equus on Sunday. Very good!

I didn't know about student rush and just happened upon it by mistake. I spent less than $100 for all three shows!!!!

So as far as the diet goes.... I am back down to 169.8 today... so... I hope to be below my 12 week end weight of 168.5 by Saturday...

I've had a little bit of a tough time getting back on 100%, but I haven't been cheating in the food sense, just on eating... I've slept really late both days and just haven't been hungry, so only have Meal 3 and 1. Tomorrow I go back to work, so I will be back on track.

Then I have 10 weeks to hit re-feed weight!!! I'm sitting at 120-125lbs of lean mucsle mass right now... so I think my final goal weight is going to be 142-148.

I joined a BF% contest at my gym, so we are having it checked weekly so that will be fantastic. My Dr doesn't want me to go below 24% BF but I will see. I will not go lower than 21%. So that will decide my final goal weight.

So exciting! I will have it decided by my 20 week point... which might put me 5lbs away from re-feed... depending on the numbers and how I lose. I've been consistant in losing 10lbs a month (with little deviations) so if I stop all of those I should make it for sure. Plus I had my largest weight loss the week I cut out cheese and did the 3-2-1 meals. I might just keep this going to see what happens... Not sure yet. I also might just add cheese back in and then cut it out towards the end again to help shake things up.

I know the weight loss tends to slow down as we get to the end... so I will have to keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the comments! I've got between 31-34 kg to lose. I can't believe that in one month I'm already a third of the way there! I realise, of course, that it will slow down a lot, but I'm just so happy with what I've achieved so far.

I find it really funny that you started knitting too! I didn't realise that this was a pretty standard thing to do - it is definitely keeping ym ahdns occupied. And these forums are also helping out a lot too :)

I've been really focussing on my water consumption the last four days, and that has been great. I find it works really well for me to focus my attention on one thing at a time (that's the strange way I work I suppose). I'm still doing everything else properly too, but water is the one thing that I kind of just let slip past. I've always drunken a reasonable amount, but I need to keep water with me at all times.

Ha - I'm getting better at rambling :)

Good luck over the weekend! x

I am dragging my feet and still not on plan 100%...:banghead:

I actually gained back what I had already lost being back from NYC... tomorrow I might actually weigh more... I left me scale at work and then ate bad and then left my food at home today and ate off plan at work...

Tomorrow I am home, I already packed my scale and I am back on 100%. I basically have 10 weeks to lose 30lbs. I need to get myself back on and GO!

I will be ok.. the cheats aren't bad, but still cheats... like today 3 cracker servings at one time... just stupid things.. I ate my meals, but no veggies.

I had to be honest and just go BLAH!!!!!!!!

I have the 1/2 marathon in a week... so I am going to go walk alot this week, which should help with the loss. I think the gym is just too mcuh, but walking 1-3 miles like I was in NYC should do the trick.

I am back on 100% tomorrow and then will be vigillant about the plan.

Good for you. I think it's especially hard to get back on plan after a break so you have done very well! Cheers, Cate

Thanks Cate!

I think it was just I wasn't properly prepared when I came back. I waited to go shopping, once I did, left my scale, forgetting food and just not feeling like it. It also made me realize that walking saved me in NYC (2-4mile on average daily). I was off plan for a total of 16 days and consider myself insanely lucky the damage was only 2.6 lbs. (168.5 12/26 and 171.1 on 01/10)

Nevertheless, got back on Saturday(01/10) (which is my new day, as I am in my 2nd 12 weeks) and have been good ever since, with the exception of the sleeping in, which I hadn't done in like 6 months. So its good to have the answer on that too.

I'm down 3 lbs for the week so far, so I think my body is back in the grove! I am actually hoping that NYC might put me into that "1st Month Stage of rapid weight loss”.

As far as I am concerned.... I started on Jan 10 as my new start date... just because of my trip and being off plan for so long. “Officially” 12/27/08 started my second 12 weeks.

The important thing is I am back on and 100%. We all have things that might throw us off course, but guess what, its ok. Did I intend to stay off plan after I got back? Heck no… did it happen… yeah… am I back on? Yep! Am I still on track to hit my goal? Heck Yeah!!

Wow!! I just updated my tracker and I have officially lost 50lbs since I decided to do something about my weight!!! Wii Fit to start, then walking then Cohens! HECK YA!!!!!!

I'm new here

Hello everyone,

You're all so inspiring and I've been loving reading through your posts over the past 3 or 4 days. I started Cohen's a week ago and am now over the worst - if I can do one week, I can do whatever it takes to get myself down to goal weight. I'm looking forward to sharing my progress with you and learning even more from you all. My name 'cuddlebones' represents the fact that I love cuddles and I think there will be even more of them when I'm boney.
I tried to resist stepping on the scales until I go back on the 28th of Jan but had to have a peek yesterday -seems to be about 3.5-4kg so I'm happy about that.
Look forward to lots of chats and mutual support.
