Weight-Loss Run!

Weight-Loss
Get after it JB!

Welcome Holo! C25K was too much for me starting out so I used a HR monitor to run/walk at my own level until I built up to being to run. If you find yourself getting stuck again you might consider it. Best of luck!

It was 100 f***ing degrees where I ran today! 38C for those of you with sane units of measure.

Hello! I'd like to join in. I started Week 1, Day 1 of Couch to 5k last night, and really excited to do day 2 tomorrow. I had to go incredibly slow to get through all of the running portions but I did manage it and that's what matters.

It's not the first time I tried Couch to 5k but my motivation has always fizzled out by week 2. I got scared of or couldn't manage the longer run times and stopped. :/ I'm hoping to push beyond that this time. I'll do the week 2 schedule as many times as I have to to get to the point that I can manage it.

Good idea to repeat some training sessions if you feel you're net ready yet for the next week!

Was planning to go on a run myself today, but think i'm gonna give it a miss.
Running a 27 km trail on Sunday while my schedule calls for a (relative) easy week. Perhaps a few days off wouldn't be a bad idea.

I am loving the welcome and loving running.

Wk1D2 done: Did nice 6.5m/hr run and 5.5m/hr walk. Can't wait for the last day of week one and start week two!!

Hope everyone's doing well.

Welcome Holo! Don't worry about being slow! You're body needs to get use to the idea of running again, you don't want to over do it! Once you get to running, you will miss it when you don't! I know, cause I did exactly this. If you can't do the scheduled runs, just extend it to do what you can. Always try to go just a little further, but you don't want to kill yourself. Also remember that as you lose weight it all gets a LOT easier!

So I haven't been on here in a while, and I hadn't realized how long until I went to sign in today! I only got a few runs in the past few weeks because of the insane amount of rain we have gotten. And if it's not rain, than it is blazing hot. I mean blazing hot for me! I seem to forget there is a treadmill I can use in the evening when that happens.

Anyhow, I did get up and run this morning, and it was great to get back to it!

A well earned break Guideon!

Amber I love you attitude! Nice run!

Caddius, good to see you back. Heck of a run!

Run

2.45 miles
163 bpm avg and a 181 peak
94 degrees (34.5 C)

The problem with using the timer and just running is that I push too hard when I feel good. I hit my theoretical maximum HR at 181 (actually it's 182 for a couple more weeks), but I didn't feel bad at any time. Don't get me wrong I knew I was pushing hard, but I would have never guessed my HR was that high. A young, fit looking dude that had been walking tried to pass me towards the end so I took off and pushed out past him. With under a minute left I slowed and let him get past me, but I made him work hard for it. I felt good knowing I had him and better for not making him feel bad losing to an old fat man. I got a nod and a thumbs up from him. Good times!

Thankyou for the warm welcome everyone! :)

I completed week 1, day 2 tonight. Somehow it actually felt more difficult than the first day! Maybe it was the hot and humid weather or that I was wearing a backpack with a water bottle inside. Either way, I'm not sure I'll be able to proceed to week 2 on the typical c25k schedule. I'm thinking I should at least be able to get through a week 1 day without feeling like I'm dying before I go on to the next level. I had to keep telling myself "you can do it, you can do it" during the running portions to keep myself from walking.

Despite that, I feel incredible once it's over. Runner's high is certainly a very real thing. I'm going to be clinging to that as my motivation to keep going on, even if I have to repeat week 1 over again.

c25k w3d2. Was fairly warm today though thankfully cloudy. New sight on todays' run, was half way done when a big fire sprung up! The 3 other people on the field when to the edge to have a look so figured if it was serious they'd have done something about it. I was always running when I got to that edge of the field so couldn't look (there's a steep slope up to the next field) so I went up to see during my cool down and it looked to be behind one of the warehouses so they were probably just burning rubbish. Got a stitch just near the end of my first 3 minute run, struggled through the next run and thought I wasn't going to make the last one but it eased off by slowing down a bit and I made it.

Wk1D3 today. It felt a little easy. So definitely looking froward to Wk2. I was sweating buckets. I mean, I sweat, but not that much. The gym was a little too warm, but whoa. When I got to my room and looked at the mirror I looked like I had just come back from shower. Ran at 6.5m/hr and walked at 5.5m/hr. Felt awesome!

Humidity was high this morning and I was exhausted. When I ran I hit about the 15 minute mark and had to take a break. It was the hardest run I have had in a while. I started again after 5 minutes and ran till I got to the 2 mile mark and called it a day. I was covered in sweat. I am ready for some cooler weather!

Holo, I bet you find that the week 1 is much easier the 2nd time through. Stick with it and you'll get there!

A bit of drama during your run Joeybear! Way to persevere.

Heck of a run Amber! Enjoy week 2.

Caddius, nice run! I got that cooler weather ordered for both of us. They said it should arrive in 3-4 months.

I checked the HR monitor a couple times on the machine and it said 143 both times. That seems right. I got off work early today due to rain, but had to use the treadmill for the same reason.

c25k, w3d3. Not much to report today, no stitches, no fires, felt I could have carried on running for a bit longer. Get the feeling I will struggle with week 4 though and may have to repeat it until I feel comfortable with it.

Total distance:1.85 miles
Walking pace: 18.11 min per mile
Run pace: 11.12 min per mile

Thanks Amber!

Great to see you again BlueDragon! Very nice run!

Joeybear, "not much to report" except kicking butt! No worries if week 4 gives you trouble. C25K is just a framework. You have to find your own path. It might be better than you thought.

Went for a run yesterday, because I just couldn't sit still anymore :p

Tomorrow I'll go on a trailrun, 27 km's, really looking forward tot that. Supposed to be good wheater so it's gonna be a good one :)

Awesome run Guideon! I hope you have a great trail run! Running a half marathon + a bit more than a 5k on a trail is insane. You sir are a beast!

Running on an indoor track with AC was so much easier! My previous distance record was 2.59 miles on the road on June 5th. I will be doing that again. The wife ran 2.13 miles. Her first time to pass the 2 mile mark and her first time to run for a full half hour. She got a GPS watch today too. I'm excited!

Recovery Run

I didn't need a recovery run, but I wanted to run with my wife. She ran 1.3 miles before she needed to walk. I just kept about the same pace until the 30 minutes was up. It was super humid and I didn't want to run hard in that crap anyway. The wife is kicking ass. She has had a better start than me speed wise.

c25k w4d1. Just about made it to the end! Didn't think I'd make the last 5 minute run, was feeling it on the 3 min before it and just had to keep thinking 'not much further, nearly done, can walk after this bit'. Just about made it though the sun was not helping. Got a bit confused at the end as there's previously been a brisk walk after the last jog and then the 5 minute slow walk cool down but today there wasn't so I ended up doing the cooldown on the field and then still had the 5 minute walk back to my house to do. Once I got home I went straight into my DVD workout because I have to go give my grandma a lift somewhere soon so had to get it out of the way first, so my little leggys are pretty tired right now.

Awesome runs, Q & Joey!

My trail run was great, really enjoyed every bit of it, even those sneaky hills on the end, which hurt a bit :)
Beautiful scenery all the way, excellently organized event.

Wanted to do a recovery run today, but just didn't have the time. Had to hurry home after work to see my Oranje beat Chile at the worldcup.

5K number 3! I finally did it! I ran the entire 5K without walking. I even sprinted the last 100 meters or so to get a little better time. I think I am paying for it now though. I have been nursing pain in my back since yesterday that feels like I herniated my disk again. (had surgery in 2001 for that) Usually If I protect it, it will go back and all will be well, but it is making it hard to move around. Might not make it to run in the morning, we will see.
