Marsia's Diary

We celebrated doing better than we thought for work, so went out for yummy Thai food. But I had a lovely day at home and gardened a little and enjoyed glorious sunshine and warmth!

Also went to the gym and did a full half hour of jogging on the treadmill and then 20 minutes of resistance machines. I am really happy I am able to work out at a good pace for a 50 minute stretch! Gained water weight back, but it was because I made the chili too salty from dumping too much bullion in. Will watch the salt and get back to my new low weight this week!! I made a black bean soup with very little salt and a ton of caramelized onions and lots of garlic. I can eat under my calorie max if I fill up on soup for a couple of meals a day, so have been making big pots of yummy soup.
Cate, hope you have a wonderful day at home!!

Marsia I don’t know where you get the time to fit all in . I go out to work for 6 hours a day so it takes a chunk of it . Love the sound of your soups .
I think you have my daughters twin !

I have been wanting a bike for a while now and maybe I will take the plunge and get one soon!! I love to bike.

I sound a lot like your daughter, lol. I was super day-dreamy as a kid. Had a hard time focusing in class - drew picture and wrote stories during math lessons. Come to find out, I just have a lot of creative energy. If I have a task, and it's creative, I can zone in and focus on it for hours! Design, photography, music, writing, decorating, etc.

Good on you for jogging 30 mins and then resistance! It feels great to hit those little milestones each time! Can't wait until I'm up to 30 on the stairmill. Currently barely hanging on at 15, lol.

I work from home and can do most of my work at any time of the day, so can do a lot after my kid goes to sleep. It really helps a lot. I like making soups in my rice cooker or slow cooker, so I just throw everything in and hit a button. I also make big batches of food and freeze about half of it, and don't normally make anything too complicated. Besides that I just do what I can and leave the rest for another day. I don't think my whole house and yard are ever clean and picked up all at the same time, but that means I can go to the beach or a cafe or out sketching, so it's a good compromise! Probably when my daughter leaves for college I will have the time to get the jungle of a yard beaten back and paths put in, and have time to do lots of art and things. Before then, it's just controlled chaos!

It's hard having a day dreamy one, but they are also so much fun and so interesting!!

I was (and probably still am) like my daughter, too, and my mom is happily watching me go through what she went through as a mom. My daughter is definitely artistic, and it's really good you remind me as my husband is an engineer and really wants her study hard to learn engineering, as she has a real knack for it. But you reminded me that she is also a designer and artistic and musical, and she also can focus for hours on something if it involves design or invention. She walked around in socks with tennis balls stuffed in the bottom as a small child - her first invention - and there are often catapults and other dangerous looking contraptions on our back deck waiting to sproing at me when I walk by!

I had to put the treadmill on the easiest setting to jog 30 minutes, and it took me a while to get there. I think it helps that I bring a little portable dvd player to the gym and watch that while jogging so I distract myself from how repetitive the treadmill is!

I really hope you get your new bike! I love exploring on a bike so much. Actually time for me to order a bike rack today!!

I love reading your diary, Marsia & hearing about your family & your life. Your daughter sounds like the daughter I would like to have had if I had a daughter. She sounds really interesting & smart & artistic & lots of things, just like her Mum, xoxo

Wow, thanks Cate! She always surprises me, one minute she says something so astute it floors me, and the next, she is proclaiming herself the baby who wants all the attention that you are currently lavishing on the cat! It's so fun and interesting having a girl with a Calvin and Hobbes imagination!!

Lol my daughter astounds me sometimes with what she comes our with . Thankfully we have a very open relationship and can talk about absolutely everything.

Ok, so the second I get fed up with my weight not budging for a month and order a Keto book, my weight drops to half a pound lower than the lowest it's been. (It's at 196.2 now.) But I am still going to try Keto because I am losing so slowly now and I want to just lose the weight and also have a secret weapon in the future for making sure the weight doesn't creep up again. I don't much like the idea of never eating a root crop veggie again or lentils or beans, or of ignoring all the apples ripening on our trees, so I will probably go off it once I lose the next 40 pounds or so, but I do want to give it a good try and see if going drastic will work for me. One nice thing Tru told me is that I can eat berries! That is great news as the wild blackberry thickets are covered in them and they are almost ripe now.

So I am going to finish up some yummy black bean soup and a few things in the fridge and then start on keto. I will also work toward eating in an 8 hour window with no snacking between meals. Wish me luck, I think I'll need it!

Also the fog is lifting mid-morning now and we are going to start bike riding after school. Yay for warmth and light!

So new daily keto food goals from the ketogain website calorie/carbs calculator:
protein 113 g - work towards
carbs 25 g - max.
fat 131 g (Tru says it's ok not to have to eat that much fat.)
1731 calorie max a day - flexible.

Keto & 16:8? Wow! I don't think I could do keto, but kudos to you for giving it a crack!
Happy weekend, Marsia xo

Also good luck here from me to with Keto . I am off to walk now and shop later . Fill up on some good wholesome foods I think .

Lol you kind of made me want to go on bike ride. I might go tomorrow

We went for a really beautiful bike ride last night in a neighborhood that is up on a cliff overlooking both the ocean and a cute little tourist town below. The sky all day had been these cirrus clouds in little wisps surrounded by circles of blue sky surrounded by puffy little clouds that filled up the rest of the sky. So it was like little cloud paisleys everywhere. I wish I had brought my camera, because the sky turned into criss-crossing cirrus clouds that looked like flying birds and in the background an orange and purple sunset. It was spectacular! We rode around ages not thinking we were getting much exercise because it was fairly flat, but both had jelly legs when we headed home. I think we have found our family sport besides tennis!

I watched a great video Tru posted in her diary that showed that all the hugely popular typical old diet plans (before the new stuff like paleo and keto) are about the same except for one. Atkins was more effective. The very low carb thing also really helps people with insulin resistance. I don't know if those online insulin resistance quizzes are very accurate, but I get 12/15 on insulin resistance, but then again, supposedly 50% of overweight people have insulin resistance, and 85% of obsese people, and I was just obese a few months ago. Another nice thing I got out of the videos that Tru posted is that you feel satisfied on the keto diet, you aren't fighting cravings after the first little bit. When I tried paleo, I felt that way, too. I didn't do paleo as a strict diet plan though. I was finding a good diet because my kid is a little gluten intolerant and gets stomach cramps from too much gluten. So I am a little afraid of how high my grocery bills might become, but I think I can do this for a couple of months and see how it goes! Crossing fingers it helps.

Oh, and I lost another little bit of weight this morning. Down to 195.6. I think I hadn't been measuring everything before, so it made my weight stall out for a whole month.

I haven't ridden a bike in forever. It felt so freeing and good! Happy shopping!

Marsia your writing skills never fail to amaze me . The way you describe everything is so wonderful .
Well done on the weight loss .you are doing super well . I think you will notice huge loss on the keto. My friend did it and lost about 24lb . But she was super strict . She has not regained the weight at all . The only thing I do notice though and I'm not sure if it's related she gets lots of colds and kidney infections. I was supposed to weigh this morning but after my week of loss I have decided to leave it until next week. But I need to get serious about it now . I have stalled all summer and had such good intentions. I know if I cut out bread and white carbs I could do really well . So I might aim for that this week .

Thanks Petal! I love trying to describe things. It makes me feel like I do when I draw, like if I can capture some of the wonderfulness of the world and express it, I feel so much more a part of it.

I think in anticipation of a scary new diet that is nothing like what I do now I am measuring a lot more carefully and just not putting some things in my mouth that I know will come back to haunt me. This morning I lost another half pound, so down to 195. I think that is from the bike riding. We rode along a couple mile long walkway along the ocean yesterday and the tide was high, so sometimes there was a nice ocean spray mist in our faces. The sun was out and it was so warm and wonderful. After a whole summer of cold and foggy (even more than usual) I think I am a sun worshipper now!

Wow the weight is really dropping off you . Have you started the keto diet yet ?
