Marsia's Diary

Ok, so preparing for keto is helping. I lost another pound today and weigh 194.2 now (24.8 lbs lost so far). Will post it to the challenge. I am still going to stay around the same calorie max on my new diet, but substitute higher fat things for the carbs. It is actually making me feel less lethargic and foggy headed to do that.

Although this morning I was so sleepy we got to the bus stop 5 minutes late, then the bus pulled up in a different spot than usual, and we missed it - tried to flag the busdriver down, but he nodded "no" and took off. So I had to drive my kid to school today which was beautiful with the sun lighting the fog up pink, but on the way back rush hour traffic awaited me. I have a terrible memory, but it seems to be getting worse lately and it is hard to remember to get places on time. I hope keto helps like it says it does with brain fog, because I seem to have a bad case of it the last couple of years.

Also I got so stressed yesterday. I am catching a cold and had to drive my mom to the doctor for her high blood pressure which has gotten bad lately. Then wrote out a list for my husband of things we still need to do on the house, which stressed me out because I would like a break from construction, and tried to do some work he is training me to do and it was so intimidatingly hard that I just went into overdrive stress mode. He came home and looked at the work he had given me and said that he hadn't looked at it yet and it would have intimidated him for the first few years he worked at this, too. So that made me feel better. And it turned out he was trying to get us to save up for something nice for me like a fence around my garden and that is why he had me write out all the stuff that needs to be done on the property.

So today I take it easy stress-wise! My keto book came in, so time to start reading it and implementing what I learn as I go along!

Stress can mess with your ability to concentrate AND remember things.

Marsia I'm stressed reading all of that . Lol
Well done on the weight loss btw . You are doing so well. I'm late replying to everyone and too tired to type much but hope you did have stress free day x

Thanks Petal. There must be something weird going on with me. I am still stressed for no reason and got nothing done today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

I get like that from time to time & it's horrible. Try to just be kind & gentle with yourself & not worry too much if you don't feel you are achieving much. You have achieved an awesome weight loss! Congratulations, Marsia xoxo

I too get like that and I am a dreadful over thinker . One thing that helps me is to make a list . Pick 2 items on it , one that will take 15 mins to do ( say clean fridge) and one that will take 5 mins ( perhaps reply to an email or make a bed ) . It gives me a sense of achievement and helps pull me back a bit .
Now I must implement that thought process today myself

Thanks everyone! I really like your suggestion Petal of just starting little tasks and feeling a sense of accomplishment. I think I am psyching myself out with the huge list of things to do that largely require my back to be in better shape than it is at the moment. I also just lie in bed last night and appreciated our house and the quilt I was under and things like, that and that helped a lot to relax and put my weird waves of anxiety in perspective. My cat piled on top of me, and that was nice, too.

I am taking it easy today and just going for a bike ride with everyone, as our new bike rack just came in. I do think it is partially overthinking things like Petal said, but maybe also feeling a bunch of pent up stress that I ignored so it gathered up. I can tell I need to get aerobic exercise every day, but instead I have been waiting to see if my mom will join me at the gym each day, and she ends up wanting to take little walks instead at times I can't do it. So I just have to go to the gym on my own and run. Just thinking about it makes me feel better!

Marsia glad you are taking it easy today . Enjoy the bike ride . The tasks will always be there and will get to them when you can . Look after your back . Xo

I have been putting stuff off too & trying to ignore it, but yesterday it exploded & I was an anxious mess when I sat down to try to sort it out. I think with your Mum you just have to do what is best for you & she has to sort herself out. We can't work out everyone else's lives & problems, even the ones we love. Your Mum may have been feeling uncomfortable in the gym situation. Walking is good. Does she have a Fitbit?
Hope the rest of your weekend is enjoyable & relaxing xoxo Cate

Thanks Cate and Petal! It was a chilly first day of fall here, but the bike ride by the ocean was so beautiful with the deep blue water and the coastal fog a slight violet. I feel really peaceful now!

My mom would not be able to handle a Fitbit because she is technologically challenged, but I just got one and we activated it tonight, so I will start using it tomorrow. Do you mostly use it for step counting, or are there other features you really like?

Cate, I hope you found a nice way to de-stress after dealing with stuff yesterday. I hate when I wait too long to deal with things and have a worse mess.

I think you are right about my mom. I can really only invite her and hope she comes. It's hard watching someone decline so much, but she is 80, so some of that is to be expected anyway. Another part of me trying to get her to exercise is very self-serving. I do not want to take care of a bedridden person - would much rather go on walks with her. But you are right, I have to let go of things I can not change!

So sleepy now. Hope you all have a great rest of your weekend! I'm turning in as my cat keeps asking when we are going to bed!! :)

I'm much better today, thanks Marcia & am well prepared. I mostly just use my Fitbit for exercise, but it's also handy for seeing who's calling or texting me when I'm playing golf. I don't wear it overnight. I have a very bright, paisley band on it at the moment.
Sleep tight xo

I use my fitness watch for 4 purposes . To make sure I stand and move about once every hour . To achieve 30 mins cardio exercise a minimum of 5 times a week . To walk 10000 steps a day and to burn my daily target of 340 movement calories .

Thanks Petal and Cate! I used the Fitbit today on an hour long bike ride, and it did pretty good. It recorded 40 minutes of exercise (150 calories) and I was startled when it went off and buzzed for the 10,000 steps. Nice feature! I am really liking this so far, and Petal, that is really helpful to know what is good to track! The bright paisley band sounds nice! Mine is a simple plum color because it was on sale and I didn't know if I would like it, but I like plum!

I also think I did my first day of keto. It's hard tracking the net carbs, because MFP tracks total carbs, but I think I am just under 30 net carbs! I feel fine!

We had a nice relaxing day and explored a new neighborhood with heart-stoppingly steep hills. The Fitbit probably didn't record the calories it takes to squeeze the handlebars of the bike for dear life! We rode around a neighborhood with a cliff above a stream that empties into the ocean and that joins a state park on the beach, so it was a fun ride down the cliffs to the beach. People smile at a mom and daughter biking together as mostly dads bike with their kids around here. I like exercising in neighborhoods with lots of old people walking their dogs and bicyclists and people out with their strollers. It's a nice communal feeling...

Going to help my kid do some JavaScript coding now - she is making a nice cat website that is interactive. I see there are all kinds of alerts waiting for me - I'll have a nice early morning reading how everyone is doing before it warms up outside tomorrow morning. Happy autumn!!!

That sounds like the most perfect place to live . Your cycle sounds a bit like my walk yesterday. It's motivating to record I think . Yesterday my active calories were 748, exercise was 79 mins , steps 14,433 . Wish I could do everyday but hard at work .

You do sound really happy & that makes me smile too :)
