G8r80 and GT2003: onward!

Open Heart Surgery? Does anyone have any excuses for not being active and participating in athletics after meeting you? I think not. Just goes to prove that the mind can overcome the body each and everytime. WOW. Great job. I am overwhelmed by Tri's ( nevermind the freakin Ironman!) and the thought of doing them. I think it is the swimming part that scares me. Someday. I shall follow you both and live vicariously. Impressive and AWESOME!

GT2003-Sympathy on the divorce thing. Most painful thing to go through in one's life even if you initate the action. But a real launching pad for growth and change. I see your making the most of it. Good for you.

I thought (g8r80) avatar was a goat. What sort of animal is that thing?

Oh so that's where the goat reference came from. Got it. You had GT and me fooled on that one.

That is a pic of a kangaroo I took in Australia. He was about 5' from me on a golf course.

Couldn't get anything going yesterday after work - too tired.

Today after work: 20 miles on stationary bike: 1:10, avg. hr: 131, max: 146. Swim: 1000 yards with pullbuoy, 500 yards with zoomers, total: 35 min. My kicking legs must be getting stronger as the 500 yards with zoomers wasn't nearly as tiring as it had been.

Your kangaroo looks more like a golf club head cover :D

You have to watch those darned kangaroos -- they'll steal anything if you give them a chance ;)

Nothing yet.... I did find a very nice little house nearby that just went on the market. I haven't seen the inside yet but if it's as nice as the outside I may be in luck. The only problem is they are asking $179,000 for a 1700 square foot house. Thats $105 per square foot which is a little much in this area. I've got friends that bought a new construction, beautiful house for $169,00 and its 1890 square feet, $89/sq ft. So, there's some negotiations in the works starting hopefully today. I figure I'll offer $139,000 then negotiate with closing costs, appliances etc. from there.

I'll get in some stationary biking and spend a little time on the weight machine tonight. So much going on right now that I'll have to be a little more persistant to get those workouts in.

Just goes to show I do not know much about animals. Damn. A kangaroo? I never would have guessed. I need to get an encyclopedia out or something. Sad.

Thursday: drove home from Atlanta but stopped at the YMCA in Atlanta. Pool was busy.

Chinups: 7, 5
Wide grip pullup negatives: 15seconds x 4
Stationary bike intervals: 9 miles. 30:00 intervals.

Today: my best swim workout to date. Used sleeveless tri wetsuit and maintained a steady kick. No flip turns and minimal kickoffs.

Today:

Chinups: 7, 6, 5
Bench press: 135# x 6, 155#x6, 165#x7, 175#x5, 165#x6. (A good day. Minimal shoulder irritation now that I keep my hands a little closer together and tuck my elbows in about 1/2 way.)
Seated cable rows: 10x3
Standing cable flies: 10x3
Stationary bike: a hard 44 minutes. Avg. hr: 136, max: 148.

Bench press: 135# x 6, 155#x6, 165#x6, 175#x2.
Standing cable flies: 10x4 (these felt okay)
Stationary bike: 1:00. Avg. hr: 117, max hr: 132. These were very low, but I was sweating. Weird.
Pool: 100yds x 2 with zoomers, 100 yds x 3 with nothing. Calves started cramping and shoulders felt tired. Went home.

Blah day today. The weights felt heavy, the bicycle pedals were hard to turn, and I felt slow and heavy in the water. I think I was fatigued from the 5-mile run less than 8 hours earlier and not having had breakfast, but having coffee beforehand. And, sometimes, you just have those days...

Can you break 200lbs yet g8 on the press?

I think so ... My best is 205 on the 1 rep max calculators (165# 8 reps). But, I haven't done a true test because I haven't had a spotter. I think I might be able to squeeze out 2 more, which would give me 220, just short of my goal of 225.
You're kicking my @ss on this one...

Nothing for the last week. I've been at home with the kids and I've really let them get the best of me. No ones fault but my own. Jumping back on the bandwagon today. I've already done fitday for breakfast and I'm ready for the gym tonight. Will update later.

There's nothing wrong with keeping your kids a highest priority...

Finally back to the gym today. I ran 25 minutes at a 10:00/mile pace. Felt pretty good considering my lack of activity the last week or so.

Fitday was also right on track. I expect I'll stay on track for the rest of the week. I'm already formulating a plan to be more successful when I get back to the house with the kids. They won't get the best of me again, hehehe. Talk to you all later, Greg

Yesterday - nada.

Today:

Chinups: 7, 6, 5
Bench press: 135#x6, 155#x6, 175#x4x2
10 bw dips
Seated cable rows: 10x3
Standing cable flies: 10x3
30:00 on stationary bike.

Pool was closed because the air temp was 32F outside.

I assembled as much as I could on the tri bike and am trying to get used to the feel of being on the aero bars. I had used aero bars on the Orbea before and it did help, but that is a road bike without a fast forward seat post, so I was bent sharply at the waist and did not get full aero benefits. On the Klein, I definitely feel more aero when on the aero bars. I am thinking of getting a trainer to practice riding on it until the last of my parts come in.

Uhm...pics of the new bike please.

Bench press 5x7-8 at 135 lbs
Skull crushers 3x7-8, ? weight, curl bar + 30 lbs
Reverse grip tricep pushdowns (pulldowns really) 2 sets, 20 lbs, 6-8 reps

Warm up 5 minutes at 3.5 mph on treadmill
Ran 1.7 miles at 8 1/2 minute mile pace (7.1 mph)
Cool down 4 minutes at 3.5 mph
Stationary bike, 15 minutes pushing pretty hard, 3 minute cool down

It's supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow. Since I wasn't very happy with my 5K race time from a month ago, I plan on running the same route tomorrow and seeing how well I do. I really think I can break 30 minutes, even with the big hill.

Nutrition still kickin butt. Was at 202 this morning, but after last week I'm happy with that. Gonna kick it on down to 190 lbs. then shave off the last little bit to show G8R what 179 pounds should look like, hehehe.

Take care all, Greg

Fair enough, Greg, show me what 179 looks like because you'll probably be there before me.
