Floater's diary

I've been having a self-care Monday: fixed the edges of my buzzed undercut (still some fixing to do, but when I cut my own hair, I always opt to err on the side of caution) and am wearing foot peeling socks to get rid of my winter calluses. I've also been doing laundry. My new-ish phone charger seems to be broken - it has to be in a specific angle or it won't work - but luckily I have the receipt, so I can take it back to the store.

I feel bad about my body today. Lots of legumes always makes me bloated... Sigh. But I'll hit the gym tomorrow. My ankle and knee feel better after a good night's sleep, knee is still a bit sore but much better than before.

Interesting. I read about striae, and one of the underlying causes is chronic stress, which leads to increased cortisol levels, which makes the skin more brittle! That makes a ton of sense, because despite being at my top weight now, we are talking about +10kg in TWO YEARS. Granted, last summer I lost and then regained an unknown amount of weight during my mental health crisis but we are talking changes within the same clothing size still.

Makes me wonder whether most of my issues would be resolved through focusing on stress management and general chillness...

These things generally aren´t all or nothing but for most people relaxation at least helps with a lot of issues.

Bedtime snack/meal: potatoes, spinach in peanut butter and tomato sauce, a fried egg, a fresh tomato

@Cate thank you for the article!

I booked a dentist appointment for my dog, it's on 14.6.

Breakfast: two-egg omelette with cheese, chickpea pancake, spinach in peanutbutter sauce with pasta and peas.

Oh yeah! Made it to the gym! I hit my personal bench press record after my long pause, and did leg press instead of my usual free weight stuff to not irritate my knee any more than necessary, worked a bit on my arms and headed home pretty quickly because the gym was PACKED. But it was a good workout and I feel good. I had a protein bar and a banana right after gym, am now walking back home feeling accomplished

Before bed: pasta, peas, tuna, marinated beans and tomato salad. May have to eat something else, the portion sizes today have been on the smaller side, and lots of activity

Took the dog for a long walk and made a big batch of chorizo + edamame + soy mince in tomato sauce and pasta as a side, had some of it because I was really hungry, the rest will be ready for tomorrow's meals :)

What an excellent day. A good gym workout, healthy food, doggo walk, more healthy food, prepping for tomorrow. All good :)

My dog woke me up to walk her, went back to sleep after that, am now having my first meal of the day: potatoes and soy mince in tomato sauce with chorizo and edamame and cheese.

Sounds good. How's the knee today?

Knee's been fine, thanks! I'm happy that I decided to do leg press instead of free weights yesterday, it probably helped.

By the way: I think I might start doing shorter workouts at the gym more often, instead of two weekly full-body workouts. I only spent 20 minutes at the gym yesterday, but I got a good workout in, and of course the 3km walk in both directions adds to the total duration of the workout. I'm also feeling fresh and alert today, not sore or depleted at all.

I'll have a friend come over on Sunday. We'll probably drink on that day (my friend is a teacher, and Saturday is her last workday of the school year), and I want to plan ahead to keep the calories at a sensible level and to avoid a hangover that might mess with my workouts. I think I'll buy some vodka and sparkling water. That was my go-to drink when I was younger and very lean. It's shocking to think that 3 dl bottle of 40% vodka contains the same amount of calories as three 500-ml cans of beer. OBVIOUSLY it's not advisable to bang down a 3 dl bottle of vodka in one evening, whereas 3 beers is still a very sensible serving size for a party night, but visualizing different drinks in size and potency as well as putting calories to the serving sizes has proven a very useful method for me to help with the "hmmm I could go for a drink right now" moments.

I'm so thrilled about tomorrow's grocery delivery. Even more so, because due to having been so tight on funds, I have cleaned out my fridge and cupboards very effectively and it feels nice to know I've avoided waste!

Fantastic news, the pools are open again! They only take half of their usual customer volume, but swimming is my absolutely favorite cardio and doesn't aggravate my knee issues like running does. I will try to re-introduce light running into my exercise regimen during this year, by which I seriously mean _light_. Of course I want to do things one at a time - first getting into a regular gym routine, then adding swimming into it, then eventually light and short jogs, but I'm really pleased with the progress I have made both mentally and physically since I started to write here on 1.3.2021.

Of course, it's going to take 1,5 years at least before I even get on testosterone, but if I keep going like this, I'll have fantastic groundwork done for hormone replacement therapy and eventual surgeries. It's also fantastic to notice how much the gym helps me mentally - I think it's the idea of having a bigger goal that has nothing to do with aesthetics or weight loss, but my future and sense of self, that has helped me connect the dots and get into the right mindset.
