Floater's diary

I just woke up and my ankles are on fire. So I've overdone it. :/ Aqua jogging should be safe but I wonder if it would be smarter to have a rest day? Assistance person is going to drive me to look at some chairs to go with the table I fancy and I overslept, so 2hrs of aqua jogging is out of the question. But if I feel better in the evening, I could still squeeze in a gym sesh...

I guess I just have to have breakfast and decide afterwards.
How about an active rest day of yoga? Ankle stretches?

I hope the day's needed walking won't be too much: take care. Hope you find the right chairs!

How about an active rest day of yoga? Ankle stretches?
I think this is related to my (supposed) Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I'm not diagnosed, as it would require genetic testing and my symptoms are not so debilitating that the expensive testing would be covered by public healthcare. But basically I have loose joints and hyperextension, so I've been told by a physiotherapist to avoid stretching (as stiffer muscles help keep the loose ligaments somewhat more supported, and the pop-happy joints in place). Some forms of yoga, like yin yoga that targets the deep muscles, are OK, but back when I didn't know it, I did other forms of yoga and thought I must be a natural for being so flexible and ended up being in a world of pain lol. The suggestion of having an active rest day is a good one though! I think that a shorter aqua jogging session where my weight is off my feet would probably help, as the water pressure would also kinda massage my feet and if there's any inflammation going on, the cooling effect might help too. And I could try to stretch my buttocks, psoas, and lower back because those areas aren't as unstable as my knees and ankles and relaxing them might help with the experience of pain.

Thank you! I hope so too. I did manage walking to the post and back just fine, I just tightened my hiking boot laces to give a bit more support to my ankles. The soles of my feet look gross right now: I've mentioned "piezogenic papulae" before, AKA the weird styrofoam-like dimples that form when subcutaneous tissue starts to squeeze towards the surface of the skin when the fragile collagen can't keep it in place during extended pressure from walking long distances. The tissue will migrate back to it's proper place eventually but I guess I shouldn't dream of a career as an ultra runner lol. Thankfully it's not dangerous; simply a visual reminder that there's a reason why water sports and gym are my main forms of exercise. By the way: It's easier for me to walk long distances without issues in the wintertime. I have no proof that it's about that, but I think my muscles are tenser in the cold and that helps alleviate the structural issues. Go figure!

Anyway: having lunch now, the last of my lentil and edamame stew, a pollock fillet, and fresh coriander. I remembered to buy toothpaste and also got three mini cans of tuna. I'm very happy that I've been eating fish regularly.

Not just muscles, connective tissue in general. Afaik that's also why for a lot of people their feet don't swell up (as much) in colder weather.

All right. I packed meal #3 - rye bread, a banana, and two salami snacks - and meal #4 - four dates, four walnuts, one sesame mochi - and we went chair hunting with the assistance person. We found one chair that was both stylish and comfortable, but there was only one left (the store's central warehouse included) so my table and chairs update will have to wait until something else comes up. All the shopping and warm weather made me pretty anxious/dysregulated and I felt like I needed to eat and take my short effect ADHD med, so the assistance person suggested we go check out the newly opened riverside walkway/plaza. There used to be dams in the river, but those have been taken down, and the rapid has been reconstructed into a more natural state. It was beautiful, and there's an area where one can sit and watch the rapid. The noise of the water was very soothing while I was having meal #3 and my med. I'll definitely go for picnics there in the future, too. It's just a stone's throw away from my gym so I'll keep that in mind!

After that the assistance person dropped me off at the pool, and I aqua jogged for two hours. It gave me time to think and plan my next move with Terrifying Sex Nurse and her boss. There's an update: while the boss told me there's nothing she can do, when one of my regular assistance people messaged her, she has now agreed that I can fix the statement and send it to her and Sex Nurse will then do something about it. So at least now I have a chance of making a difference before meeting the trans clinic psychiatrist. BUT: First thing in the morning I'll check with the patient ombudsman if there's any legal fuckery I should be aware of. And I'll also find out if I can get info from my phone operator because Sex Nurse has lied in the statement about us having had a phonecall that we didn't have. (Now that I think about it, did I try asking this once already or am I just so tired that I'm having Déja Vu?)

Anyway: I just had a boiled egg and a bowl of white bean, tuna, feta and olive pasta, 100g of cottage cheese, and will have a bowl of mango next. Leftover pasta will be tomorrow's breakfast. I'm really tired but at least my feet aren't hurting anymore - aqua jogging helped!

EDIT: prepped breakfast: pasta with white beans, tuna, feta, and olives, dark green salad with scallions and coriander to be mixed in with the cold pasta, sauerkraut, 100g of cottage cheese, and 3 dates + 3 Brazil nuts + one sesame mochi.

The reconstructed rapids sound great! Running water is the best.

Funny how things can suddenly become possible when there's scrutiny, isn't it?

If you did I don't think you mentioned it here.

Awesome, glad you're feeling betting.

It is! The river should be clean enough to swim in, not that I'll go swim in the rapids lol, but there are a couple of spots I want to try next summer. I love water in general, but rivers have their own spirit to them, it's lovely to watch the water pass me just like time passes everything, puts me in a thoughtful mood. And the currents feel nice when swimming.

You don't say... And it's sad that patients in general but especially psychiatric patients and neurodivergent folks just don't get taken seriously. I would be totally screwed if it weren't for my amazing assistance folks, they are such a gift to the world. My world at least.
If you did I don't think you mentioned it here.
Good! Then it's probably Déja vu. I get those a lot, and sometimes it's really anxiety-inducing, because it can be really difficult for me to tell if I have already done something or just thought about it. On a lighter note, you can imagine that I was pretty stoked the first time I saw "The Matrix" - my reality glitches a lot :ROFLMAO: (I love those movies so much... Haven't seen the newest one yet though!)
Awesome, glad you're feeling betting.
Thank you :grouphug:

Sadly so often true. Of course something similar is true for the elderly, people in wheelchairs, people who have language issues, and even to a degree for women (especially women with chronic pain). Black neurodivergent elderly women with a language barrier AND mobility issues? Weeell... They might as well not exist at all. Just shit outta luck. It's criminal and I hope it'll start changing now that we're officially more aware of it.

You are absolutely right. Discrimination "stacks up", these issues are indeed intersectional. I didn't mean to come across as belittling the plight of patients who are facing discrimination for some other reason than being neurodivergent or mentally ill. I guess I was trying to say that just as a pain patient can be suspected of being an addict (especially if they belong in one or more demographics that also face discrimination due to racist/sexist/ableist stereotypes), me being mentally ill and neurodivergent sometimes feels like an open invitation to get gaslit by healthcare professionals into, well, thinking I'm the problem because I'm "crazy". Hah, I'm too tired to talk good. I think you get my point

You didn't, no worries. I just got wound up because it's something I run into at work and when I get wound up I get verbal diarrhea. Didn't mean to turn it into Oppression Olympics or invalidate your experience!

You didn't either, so no worries right back at you!

I also poop words from my mouth/fingertips when I get passionate about something. I think it's cool and tells that you're in the right profession that you are aware and empathetic about systemic issues. I wish all health care professionals were the same...

HEUREKA! I did some online digging and it MIGHT be possible to find another chair like the one I liked today; and apparently the normal selling price is almost 400€ but it's a product no longer in production, hence it now costs only 99,95€. I feel like a hunter who just spotted a prey lol. If I can pull this off, I'll be sitting on some stinky bougie chairs in a week lol 😂😂 I'll call the other stores of the same chain tomorrow 🥰

Meal #6: two Karelian pies with marg& ham, two corn cakes with marg & Marmite, one salami snack, two seaweed snacks, two walnuts. I hope the carbs and energy-dense snacks will help me sleep!

HAHA YES I managed to reserve one chair for myself, and the other store will call me back soon. The only downside in this is that the chair I tried yesterday has a scratch on it so I'm not getting a "perfect" product although it's new. But then again, furniture gets nicked and scratched in use anyway, design or not. If I adopt the mindset that I'm about to get two chairs worth 800e for 200 e, and that these are chairs that might actually have re-sell value in the future, I don't know if one white scratch on one of the black chairs is a real issue...

Here's the chair btw. Looks very futuristic but it was extremely comfy to sit on, like a saddle chair!

Oh and thanks @Cate :3 I slept well!

I like it! Definitely something for active sitting.
Yes! I never sit "normally" (except on public transport etc), I HAVE to be able to sway my body or at least move my legs. ADHD goooo! (How ironic is it by the way that as kids we are taught to sit still and as adults we are told to move around in order to prevent blood clots, varicose veins and whatnot...) Currently I mostly sit on my bed in a half-lotus or criss cross applesauce, with my computer on my pillow and a laptop pad. It allows me to move my upper body around, but I really need a proper work desk and chair to be able to get back to drawing and painting, writing longer texts, and eventually video editing and other such stuff.

Hngh I'm still gnawing away at my breakfast. But once I'm done with it, it will keep me fueled as I hit the gym, and hopefully the other furniture store will call me back soon!

All right! All done with breakfast. Meal plan for the rest of today:
Meal #2: post-workout porridge + a banana
Meal #3: minced meat and edamame with garlic, fried onions, fish sauce, hot sauce, and fresh herbs. (Minced meat and edamame will make several meals.) Served with rice and dark green salad (it's starting to wilt a bit so it'll go best with a hot meal).
Meal #4: a snack of fried plantain, cherry tomatoes, and 100g of cottage cheese.
Meal #5: red lentil stew, a small bowl of fruit.
Meal #6: rye bread, ham, button mushrooms, and a fried egg.

Oh yeah! I called around and a reserved two chairs, one in Espoo and one in Tuusula, which should not have scratches and dents. Hit the gym and OH MY GOD YES I managed four clean bench press reps with 25kg on my last set! PROGRESS! Had my porridge and a banana in the locker room.

Walked home, rice is just about done, will cook the minced beef and edamame next, herbs and spices are all prepped. Once I've eaten, I'll cool the leftovers and pack tomorrow's bento breakfast and head to the pool for an aqua jogging session - probably not for 2 hrs, but I need to work this excitement out of my system! For some reason I'm so god damn pumped for those chairs lol!

The minced beef-edamame dish with fresh herbs and rice was wonderful. I used frozen corn to cool down two portions quickly (right now I'm too impatient to care for the possibility of germs in unheated frozen corn) and garnished the cooled down portions with herbs and scallions. Prepped breakfast: minced beef and edamame with corn and fresh herbs, dark green salad, sauerkraut, a sliced banana with a bit of yogurt and cinnamon, and a sesame mochi, two pieces of dark chocolate, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds.

Off to the pool I go!
