Floater's diary

Euuugghhhhh god damn there's a strike in all municipality workplaces - preschools, schools, municipality-run sports arenas and swimming pools, the list goes on - so no aqua jogging for poor Floater until 9.5.! I want to make clear that I'm pro workers right and so I don't bitch about the strike per se, just about this change to my routine just as it worked so very well for me.

Well, the walk to the city center and back (total 6km) still counts as light cardio though. I got spices, noodles and tea from the Asian grocery. My meal #2 was small fries, a Thai energy drink with a water buffalo on it that I can't spell the name of, and a can of Old Jamaican ginger beer (because at this point I didn't know the pools were closed and wanted to get some carbs into my system). Also bought ham, gravlax, feta, dates, and walnuts.

Meal #3 is rice and lentil stew with a pollock fillet and a cup of almond matcha latte with fresh mint and maple syrup. EDIT: also a RAF tomato and a short effect ADHD med.

I think that once I've had a cup of coffee and let the food settle for a bit, I'll head to the exercise stairs about 1km from my home. I plan to walk up the stairs and go down a gentle slope (because it's easier for my funky right knee) for as long as I have it in me. I was originally dreaming about doing that for 30 mins, but I have absolutely no idea what my starting point would be in this sort of an exercise so I'll just do it for as long as I feel comfortable. The walk there and back will count as warmup and cooldown.

That sucks about the pool being closed! Stair walking is great exercise but you're wise to go down the long way if your knee doesn't stabilize well.

OK folks, wish me luck, let's hope this isn't going to suck too hard :D :D I'm going to wear my hiking boots, not the lightest shoes but I'm not going there to run up the stairs anyway. And I often get sore when I change between shoes (from hiking boots to running shoes f.e.) so I'm playing it safe!

After the first ascension I was convinced I could never keep going for 30 mins but I COULD. Apparently my cardio fitness is better than I thought. I'll make this part of my routine. Sweet endorphines!

Meal #4 is a banana, 100g of cottage cheese, salad with sauerkraut, boiled egg and ham, and a rye bread Marmite sandwich (I found Marmite in the Asian grocery and I'm so happy about that!).

I feel a bit weird about not having aquajogged because I have much more spendable energy than usual. I think I'll go for another walk in the evening, maybe to the supermarket and see if they have small glass containers I could keep some dates and nuts in for emergency hunger situations. I didn't mention this before, but I impulse bought a new pair of reusable chopsticks form the Asian store because they were so adorable: shiny black in color, with a picture of a flounder near the top :D They had all sorts of pretty chopsticks, but the flounder ones just caught my eye, maybe because it's such a weird-looking animal and not at all in the same aesthetic ballpark as cranes and koi fish and other ubiquitous Japanesque motifs. I hope I can take the floundersticks for a picnic this summer.

Packed tomorrow´s bento breakfast and went for the tastiness angle, as I didn't really enjoy my breakfast today and that just won't do! I'll start my day tomorrow with Marmite rye bread sandwich + seaweed snacks + a sliced banana, a boiled egg marinated in sweet soy sauce and sesame oil that will double as a dressing for 200g of sweet peas garnished with fresh mint, 4 dates + 2 Brazil nuts + 2 walnuts, and some mango. Plenty of carbs to fuel me at the gym and a decent amount of protein too; frozen peas look so unassuming, but one 200g bag contains 11g of protein for 150 kcal, so...

I have to go now if I want to make it to the supermarket before closing time!

I made it to the supermarket so that's another nice walk for today. I got a 0,3l glass container, cherry tomatoes, a cucumber, and two 400ml bottles of Kombucha that were on sale. I had one bottle while walking home and oh my, I have no idea why I like it so much, but I do... At 18kcal per 100 ml it's not a bad choice for a drink anyway.

Meal #5 is a snack of thawed cherries and pineapple and a bowl of homemade tzatziki (cucumber, ~200g of yogurt, fresh garlic, fresh mint, salt, black pepper), and let's count the Kombucha into meal #5 too, as an aperitif of sorts lol.

I have no idea what meal #6 is going to be other than it's going to be carbsy.

About the yogurt I'm using: I've switched from Turkish yogurt to a slightly more expensive brand that has "Icelandic" yogurt with 3% fat and 8% protein, and quark yogurt with 0,7% fat and 8,8g of protein. I like how fresh they taste, and the stats are much better than in Turkish yogurt which has 10% fat and 4,3% of protein, so I'm glad to pay a bit more.

I think Skyr is technically cheese, not yogurt, but it's quite possible that's not true for the modern stuff. Awesome source of protein, super filling, and very tasty. Sad the knock-off version I can buy here is nowhere near as good.

Yeah this isn't Skyr but according to the manufacturer a yogurt that's "Iceland-inspired, made in Sipoo" which is... Cute... In an awkward way 😂😂😂 Finnish dairy products are genuinely great though. I know it's partially about acquired taste but we do export dairy products a lot.

I have never eaten proper Skyr, although I have eaten stuff of the brand name "Skyr" and that was disgusting, with artificial aroma and sweeteners. At one point Skyr and yoga pants were The Thing for every fitness nut. Now it's neon colored shorts and bra combos, dry preworkout, and intermittent fasting. We'll see what's next in the fashion cycle 🤔💅

Bedtime snack: my last snack salami and two Karelian pies with dark green salad mix and ham. Whoops, a lot of processed meat but... All in all today was very nice.

Wowsers- well done, you :D
I love the sound of your bento box & your new chopsticks & your food is so good these days. I love Kombucha too. I love pickled or fermented stuff. We have kimchi on the go now. I think I'll get into it a bit more. I always save nicely shaped wide-mouthed jars for chutney & general storage. They could be stored in boxes or clear containers & stored under the bed if space is really limited. I always get the labels off totally. I rummage through & give some away when I get too many.

Homemade kimchi is no doubt divine! Maybe I'll give it a try some day. I would really like to make Kombucha at home, too. And homemade pickles& preserves are a lovely gift idea 🥰

Unless you have a family history of cancer on the intestines the occasional day with more processed meat won't kill you, especially when they're happy days :)

Fuck, fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. Sex nurse's boss responded to my email and didn't really answer any of my questions, simply said that the document the sex nurse wrote states the reasons why I won't be treated in their unit and am transferred to the trans clinic, and f course there will be no debriefing. I kept my response short, just saying OK and that the patient ombudsman will be informed that a chance for debriefing has been offered but was denied.

I'm angry, tired, alone, and mad that the system is so fucking cruel and that one single power-hungry idiot can do this much damage.

But I tried my best and now the schedule has changed: next up is surviving a meeting with the trans clinic psychiatrist in August.

:grouphug: I'm so sorry they make you go through all this. Will you be able to have assistance with you for the psychiatrist visit?

Thank you, and yes. It's in August so I have time to prepare /s . :grouphug:
That’s the spirit! :grouphug:
:grouphug: As I joked to the assistance person today: my body is a 500e summer car and I'm going to be stuck in it for a while, nothing I can do about it, but I CAN get myself 1000-e rims. Rims in this case being a metaphor for eating right and exercising.

Gym was good. I tried doing bench press with 25kg for my last set and got two clean reps and then failed the third and had to use the lower hooks or whatever they are called. But I'm glad I know that I can at least do two; the psychological hurdle has been passed. Had my locker room porridge and a 100 kcal energy drink, walked home, assistance came over and we talked about the trans clinic situation etc. while I was making lunch. She just left and now I'm eating #3: a small bowl of pineapple, a bowl of spicy pb-and tomato beluga lentil stew with spinach and a pollock fillet, and two slices of rye bread with Schwarzwald ham, dark green salad mix and cheese. Dessert is a cup of almond matcha latte with fresh mint and maple syrup.

It's drizzling rain. I think that after lunch I'll lie down for a bit and then go stair walking for 30 mins unless it starts to rain like crazy. A little drizzle doesn't bother me.
