Emily Rose: The Reboot

Great how much you lost already, and I really like your analysis of the week!! I am hoping the stress of co-producing is that creative kind of stress that is good! Are you going to be at the theater a lot of nights this coming week? I hope there is time to do some food prep so you can swap in more veggies and protein!

Thanks everyone.

I’m not going to say too much, been a long day, but I just wanted to post that we had our first rehearsal tonight and I really feel the best I have about myself and my life in a long time. I think I’m doing something good. The people in the group are from all walks of life, so interesting, and it’s such a positive experience already. Just wanted to get the good stuff into this diary also! (And I still tracked my calories and am on target today.)

Thanks everyone.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much, Em :)
Sleep well xo

Great, about the weight loss! and impressive about chucking the cigarettes. I know via my sister's experience that that's a tough haul (and shame on those who knowingly try to hook people).
Absolutely agreed that "when you're not taking in as much, the calories you do eat need to be good ones." Good in every sense - good to eat as well as good for health. :)
I love the sound of the drama involvement - please tell more as it goes along! (A vicarious fix of theatre involvement - hooray!)

Thanks Cate, Petal and LaMa.

Amy - I will definitely give some theatre updates here so you feel involved, lol.

Guys, today out of nowhere I got a pay rise, with another significant one to follow in June. I’ve basically had a pay increase of 10 grand within a year. It’s amazing.

My manager also said some unpleasant things about me that I didn’t really want to hear, but some of it I will definitely take on board. I think I’m just gotten a bit too argumentative and I have to learn to not let the stress get to me and take it out on other people. I basically need to scale it back and try to not get so emotional about things.

It frustrates me that people report back to her on my every interaction that goes even slightly wrong in the office, but as my mum says, no one kicks a dead dog, so if that’s how it is, I’ll just have to go with it. I probably should start going to my yoga and meditation classes again, I clearly need more oxygen!!

I guess I just hate being fake, but I suppose I should look at it as just being diplomatic and not getting riled up over small things.

The meeting basically went, ‘You’re doing this and this and this wrong, but we’re giving you more money and a better title’, so I guess I can’t be too upset. :p

That’s two really great things this week. I also had to clean my room last night and it’s so nice to be in again. Still on track with calorie counting. My appetite has disappeared. Very strange.

Hi, Em. Congrats on the pay rise. It's hard for me to take criticism, but if some of it is constructive & you can learn from it that's a good thing. Going to your yoga & meditation class again should help. I know meditating is helping me a lot.
I am looking forward to my appetite waning. My stomach is rumbling as I type. I usually have breakfast before doing the diaries, but this morning G has a frittata happening.

Wow, for the pay rise! Good for you - and if it came with a slightly critical review, well, they must think you're pretty hot stuff and are maybe trying to nudge you towards a really stellar career. I like your mum's line about the not-dead dog, too. One to remember.
By the way - do you know or follow the askamanager site? There's bound to be stacks on there about how to deal with hypercritical managers, and office telltales etc.
Thanks, about the theatre updates - looking forward to them!

Yay for more money! And if being a little more fake/diplomatic leads to fewer blow-ups at work it can only be a good thing.

Congratulations on the pay rise . You must be doing really well. Well done . Also glad the diet going well. You are on a roll. :rotflmao:

Hey Emily, good to see that you are staying on track. That's great.

You have to be doing something right at your job, people who aren't don't get raises like you have.

Work is a naturally competitive environment, people are always going to say things both to your face and behind your back that you don't like. My first boss out of school was a really great guy and mentor, one thing he told me over and over again was that to succeed in business you need a thick hide, like a turtle he used to say. You are better off if you can just let all that crap roll off your back and go on, ignore it. He was right and in my career I have always appreciated what he taught me. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the lovely comments guys. The thick hide is something that doesn't come naturally but I am working on it.

And now it's time for...

SUNDAY WEIGH-IN :applause:

Week 1: 179.3 lbs | 41.6% body fat
Week 2: 177.6 lbs (-1.7 lbs) | 41.4% body fat (-0.2%)
Week 3: 176.5 lbs (-2.8 lbs) | 41.2% body fat (-0.4%)

Reflections on week 2:
Really pleasantly surprised that I reached my goal this week considering the last two days weren't exactly brilliant and I was a good bit over calories on Friday night. So I'm really thrilled with that. It appears to be working! I haven't noticed a huge difference yet, but even just not being able to gorge myself on treat after treat and getting some discipline back has been really positive for me. I've still eaten a lot of snacky/junk food this week, but it's at a controllable level. So that's great. I'm hoping that as time goes on, I'll start cooking more again.

Healthy meal of the week: I had a proper lunch on Friday of ham, orzo pasta, cucumber, spinach, celery, cherry tomatoes and red pepper. Very nice.

Exercise highlight of the week: I did a 58 min walk around the lake yesterday which burned 347 calories. I didn't feel like doing it but it was nice watching the ducks. I haven't been to the gym or even gone for a run in two weeks, I need to sort that out.

Plan for week 2: Keep doing what I'm doing. Try to get more green vegetables in. But I am happy with how it's going.

Happy with how it's going? Yes, indeed - it looks like it's going really well! Down nearly four pounds in two weeks, and feeling able to not eat more than you want to of the snacky treats - good for you! And cheering you on for the week to come! :)

Wow, congratulations on all fronts - weight loss, getting a healthier diet, promotion, fulfilling work on the play, walk around the lake,. You are on a roll! So happy to read this all!!!
