Cate's Diary

Thanks, Petal. I’m glad you’re feeling better too. I actually love my bike. It will be an extra for the month as Arch will still insist on his two walks a day. Good boy, Arch. He’s so good for me :beating:

I woke up this morning, contemplating a plan for the next month, as I do at the end of each month. I usually try too hard I think & then set myself up for failure. I hate weighing myself but when I don't I allow myself little treats, not knowing the outcome & fool myself into believing it's ok. My next plan has to be a plan I can stick to for the rest of my life.
September plan-
Weigh-in at least once a week.
Log everything into My Fitness Pal.
Aim to keep my daily calories under 1450. (to lose 1/4-1/2 kg a week )
Do a min of 2.5 km on my stationary bike at least every second day. Maybe do this first thing in the morning before breakfast as Archie wakes me up at 6,30 every morning.
Do at least 5,000 steps each day.
Drink 2 litres of water (not including any hot drinks I consume)
Adjust calories at the end of the month if necessary.

Rest of life plan-
Weigh-in every week.
>5,000 steps every day.
>2 litres water every day.
Make a new monthly plan.

Your plan looks great Cate. I like the idea of the 'rest of life plan' with an adjustable monthly plan.
Nice that you are enjoying the bike--seems like a handy way to add in some more movement especially on the days that are less inviting for the outdoors.

I think we´re pretty focused on sustainability around here anyway but I like how many of us are currently really thinking about long-term plans.

Thanks, Liza. I'm sick of bouncing down & then back up all the time. I need to tackle it slower this time & weighing myself at least once a week is key I think. My bike is a really good one & I like it. I have it in a nice spot now. I preferred it in the lounge room, but Archie's crate is in that spot now.

It's the only way, LaMa. Quick fixes are usually only temporary.

Nature note-
We saw a grey goshawk today, quite close to our house. They are beautiful birds. I do feel sad when I see one though as they mate for life & we knew of someone who shot one about 20 years ago because it was hovering over his chooks. He lived about 2 km away from where we are now & I always think this is probably it's partner. This is not my pic.

If it´s any comfort: wild grey goshawk have not been recorded to live longer than 11 years in the wild according to uncle Google. Gorgeous bird.

That’s good! I have not been able to find info on life expectancy. I really thought they lived longer. The Tasmanian ones are so white & so beautiful. Spring has sprung here. The welcome swallows have arrived & you can just feel the change. I love it!

We´re clearly heading into fall here. No more high heat; time for golden light and drinking Sturm in the vineyards!

Spring has sprung here
I envy you for that, spring is my favorite time of the year. But fall is second and its not far away, in fact today is supposed to be our first "cool" day forecast temperature only in the 20s! But then back to the 30s for a while anyway.

Good that you can ride your bike, as it cools I will be getting mine out again.

If the partner dies do they just go single then, or would they seek another partner at that point?
Beautiful bird indeed!
Lucky you with lovely spring. I too love the fall and actually usually even love winter and the break from garden work, but this year I'm a little afraid of the added isolation winter will bring for me.

Hi Cate
I love your plan for September. I think most of us bouncing around abit and it’s time for some action now . Its funny your swallows arrive as ours leave . I love to watch them . We didn’t have the same quantity this year but I notice a nearby house has many . That’s a beautiful bird you have shown us .
Fall is here to ot autumn as we call it and I love it

My parents had a pair of swallows in the barn for the first time in over a decade this year. Such fascinating little beasties.

Happy September/Spring/Autumn(Fall) everyone :grouphug:
It's 9 am in Tasmania.
I love Spring :beating:
Liza- if the partner dies they don't find another mate xo.
I actually feel so much more positive at the end of Winter and know that I suffer from SAD. As the days draw out I feel energised.
Swallows are so cute. We have always had them up at our house. They love the stone I think. There is always one or two who come & do a recce & then 5 or 6 arrive a few weeks later. We leave their nests from the years before, so they can choose when they come back. They do make such a mess, but we discourage them from nesting near our entrance & they get the message. Almost every year we get at least a few babies & watch them grow & have flying lessons. They are here for months & I love watching them flit about.
Day 1 of my Sept plan.
BF- 1 small banana, blackberries, strawberries, rhubarb, a couple of dollops of greek yoghurt(100g?), some hemp seeds, psyllium husks & almond meal 296 cals. This was really yummy & filling.

I always think of September in the same way as January - the start of a new year. It's a good time to make a change really.

Breakfast sounds great. We always had swallows in a nest at the side of our house, they are lovely little birds.

It was, Liza. Lunch was delicious too & I was really hungry by lunchtime. I'll maybe have some more yoghurt next time. I didn't weigh it & it maybe wasn't 100g.
Lunch- 1.5 meatballs in gravy with about 8 vegetables- baked onion, garlic, cabbage, mushroom, carrot, parsnip, 1/2 a steamed potato, pak choy & some cauli/brocc au gratin. Make that 10 veggies. It was delicious & very filling.
Edited: my husband just said "& beetroot. Did you remember the beetroot?"
Dinner is going to be bits and pieces, including raw veggies- baby carrot, snow peas, celery, tomato & some cucumber with crackers & cheese. We need some hommus as it's so handy to have with raw veg.
I am sharing a bottle of red wine with G & enjoying it.
I rode my bike this morning before walking Arch. It may help warm up my muscles I think. I forgot to wear my fitbit before heading off this morning, but I know I have walked more than 5,000 steps.
We had a bit of excitement about half an hour ago. Arch was nosing about under the rhubarb & the next thing an animal was hurtling towards me, I shrieked thinking it was a rat. It ran into G & took off down towards the house. It was an Eastern Barred Bandicoot. I'm not sure who got the biggest fright, but Archie thought it was very exciting. I hope the bandicoot finds a new home, well away from him. They are endangered. We had some released here about 20 years ago & we see evidence of them regularly & sightings of them occasionally. They are so cute!

Great excitement Cate . Most we get is a shrew . Food sounds good . Most yoghurt cartons here ( individual ones ) are 125g I believe. I have a 170g high protein one for breakfast at about 80 cals . Enjoy the day

I spotted a European hamster on my way to work last week. So cute! Bandicoots are adorable though and I'd love to see one in the flesh.
