Weight-Loss Amazing Race Style Challenge

Weight-Loss
Well lets just say this - I will be doing the videos. There is no way that I will ever drink tea of any form. I dont believe that we have to do the same thing though Dawn.

There is a better chance of my having a live octopus than drinking tea - and the probability of me doing that is not high. The chopsticks idea was no problem compared to tea drinking.

lol you peopll must think i'm crazy. I like green tea. I like green tea flavoured pocky, green tea flavoured kitkat etc if it comes in green tea flavouring I will eat or drink it. and finally a detour where i don't have to go shopping for stuff becuase tada it is already in my house.

ladyumbra-if you go to some sushi/asian resteraunts they will have green tea flavored ice cream, it is very interesting and I find it refreshing (though not quiet so much as a fudgey brownie piled with vanilla LOL)!

If you are not a big tea drinker but undergoing the tea challenge try liptons green tea bags they come in peach and citrus among other flavors (which BB stated is legal), add a splash of lemon and a tsp of honey (not many calories) and I bet you will at least choke it down, or if I remmeber right 1 tsp sugar = 16 calories so not bad. ALso, what I like to do is get plain green tea and then I add a sprig of fresh mint to the cup or a chunk of fresh ginger, both of which I find refershing and wonderful for the tummy/digestion.

YUM - those sound like good ideas Mom2...I ABSOLUTLY LOVE - the Tazo Green Tea...One is called Zen...it is green tea with mint and the other is called - China Green Tips...excellent flaour goes down nice and easy...You can order these teas at Starbucks and buy the boxes from there as well.

Good grief! I can't believe anyone would rather eat a live octopus--with tentacles flailing about than swill down a cup of tea. I'm planning on doing a Survivor challenge next. I think I'll make Margaret eat some of those fat worm-type things they are always eating on that show.

No, we do not all have to do the same detour. It's just like last week--eat the kiwi or the lamb. Drink the tea or do the Tae Kwon Do--as you please.

I'm with the green tea lovers. I even painted my bedroom a color called "green tea" :D

I did say that the probability of me eating the octopus was not high. Hubby even doesnt eat dead octopus (he left it last time he was given some) - and he likes kalamari - which I do not like.

Dont count on me eating the worms. If it is a team challenge - I'll let you enjoy that one.

And we all start back at 0pts each week, so you've got a clean slate. :)

Week 6 Destination

Week 6—Seoul to Johannesburg 18hrs 35min. 6hrs12min split 3 ways

Roadblock: make and eat Nelson Mandela’s favorite South African dish—umngqusho. Don’t even try to pronounce it. :D The recipe is below. Only one person per team needs to do this--and remember--if you've already done 2 roadblocks, someone else from your team must do it. :)

What you need
• 2 cups dry samp (broken hominy)
• 1 cup dry cowpeas (black-eyed peas) or any similar beans

What you do
• Combine samp and cowpeas in a large enamel pot or glass bowl. Add cold water sufficient to cover. Cover, and let stand overnight. Drain and rinse before cooking.
• In a large pot. Cover the soaked samp and cowpeas mixture with cold water. Bring to a boil. Let boil for ten minutes. Reduce heat. Add sugar beans, margarine, onions, potatoes, chillis and lemons. Simmer on low heat for one to two hours, until all is tender and the water is mostly absorbed. Add additional water during cooking if needed.
• Season with salt. Serve hot.

You must eat the whole thing by yourself. With the ingrediants other than the black-eyed peas and hominy, you can add as much or as few as you like--for example, if you don't care for spicy food, just add a tiny bit of chilis. Any questions? Just ask. :D

I too am very pleased that you have volunteered for this. It sounds absolutely horrible. Not as bad as tea - but not too far short of it.

I have to disagree! It sounds yummy. I love to try it but as Margaret said I don't think I can find the ingredients here. I will search in the obscure ethno shops but I hope some of teammates get it done this week!

What's the difference between broken hominy and normal, canned hominy? Or are they interchangeable?
