Weight-Loss Accountability Contest - GET BACK ON TRACK!

Weight-Loss
Whilst I may be more wide awake at 8a.m. your time - no-one ever gets much sense out of me when the midnight deadline passes at 5a.m. my time.

Be wary of emailing eccentric English women for help with decision making. Whilst I am more than happy to help - there is always the chance that you will be accused of coming up with some unusual ideas.:D

That may only help me get ahead at work.:)
Eccentric ideas are considered good sometimes. Certainly cannot be worse than my usual ideas.:D

Goodmorning everyone! Happy Saturday! (Even though some of you have been up for quite awhile..lol.)

Here are the total points for the first week:

The Blue Team - 27.2 * Updated
The Green Team - 32.6
The Purple Team - 39.8

So far, PURPLE is in the lead!

We had quite a few people that didn't check in at all, so they got 0 points. No team received the bonus points this week because the entire team must complete the bonus in order to get the 15 points. (This could really help out if the race gets close!)

Congratulations to everyone on a GREAT first week!

Please don't forget that this contest is about HOLDING EACH OTHER ACCOUNTABLE! Make sure that you spot anyone in your team that may be "slacking" and give them a boost! Remind them of the bonus! We're only 1 week in, so we still have time for it to be ANYONE'S GAME!

:) THIS WEEK'S BONUS (starting Sunday, 6/1) :)

Your Bonus Challenge for this week is eating a minimum of 3 servings of FRUIT or VEGETABLES each day Sunday through Friday. You can mix and match, as long as you get 3 servings EACH DAY.

Please make sure that you post what you eat every day as an Accountability for the Bonus!

Good Luck!

I love this one
I have normally eaten 3 by lunchtime and about 6 by dinner so im happy going to keep the water one going as well think it really helps

Good luck this week

So I was wondering , I guess this might also be a challenege idea...but if we keep up the challeneges from week to week, might it be an idea for us continue earning points ? Like if we continue drinking our water this week and then continue on with the fruits and veggies...or will that be too complicated ?

I also have a question abt hte fruit and veggies...is it just 3 of each through out he course of the day or 3 fruits and 3 veggies ?

Oh ok I just re read it 3 of any kind...that is it - lol - I would think it would be three of each every day :)lol

What's your plan for handling attrition? No point in having an "everyone has to do it" bonus if all of the teams have no-shows.

Missblonde, I hope you saw my message in our thread that I could not add my weight because I didn't have access to a scale while I was on vacation. Do you make any allowances for people when they cannot weigh on Friday or check in because of limited computer access?

Hi guys!

Blancita - I'm so glad you posted that here because I didn't see your other post before now. What I will do is re-calculate the total points for your team once you post since you gave me notice in advance. I do understand that things will happen. In the future, just send me a private message because I will be more likely to see that first. I don't get a chance to read everyone's thread each day, so it would just make it easier for me.

Which brings up another good point to let everyone know - If any of you will have problems checking in for any reason before midnight EST on Fridays, please send me a PM in advance to let me know. Then I will take that into consideration.

allyphoe - I have been thinking of this since Friday and haven't been sure how to handle it. I have thought about rearranging the teams, but what if I do that and then we have more people "not check in". The Blue Team had 3 people that didn't weigh in at all (one of which is accounted for). The Green Team had one.

How would you guys like to do it? I don't think its fair to the teams that have people that didn't check in. I could consider this first week our "Trial Week" and I can rearrange the teams. Everyone will still keep their individual points for the first week, but the totals for each team will be rearranged.

OR - I could in fact turn it into an elimination contest - I didn't want to do this because the idea was to help keep everyone on your team motivated and held accountable for more than "just a week". I'm not sure how it would work though because of the length of the contest. Its longer than 6 weeks and we would end up with no teams by the 6th week if I eliminated 1 person from each team each week.

So, let me know what you guys think and I will make the decision after getting all your feedback.

Thanks! Have a great weekend!

Missblonde - I like the idea of it being a non elimination - however it does suck that ppl agree and join but dont follow through - it is unfair to bust our butts adn then have none of us get points as su=ome of us arent participating...

m not sure what the answer is but I know I did my challeneges this week and it sucks that those of us that did it didnt even get the benefits of it from the contest - lol\

Im not sure what you should do or how you should hanf=dle it, it isnt easy if you want to make it non elimination...

I vote for not rearranging teams. If someone doesn't check in for a given week, they doesn't count against their team's bonus points for the following week unless they do check in that following week.

Example 1: I don't check in for week one. My team gets no bonus points for week one. I don't check in for week two, either. If everyone else accomplishes the bonus in week two, they get the bonus points.

Example 2: I don't check in for week one. My team gets no bonus points for week one. I do check in for week two, but don't accomplish the bonus. My team gets no bonus points for week two.

Example 3: I don't check in for week one. My team gets no bonus points for week one. I do check in for week two, and do accomplish the bonus, as does everyone else on the team. My team gets the bonus points for week two.

If a given team has only one person check in two weeks running, I'd give them a choice of joining one of the other teams. But otherwise, I wouldn't reshuffle the teams.

Just my suggestion - your challenge, your choice! :)

I think it really depends on how/if they checked in. It's been a week since it started and if they haven't checked in at all I think they should be removed off that teams entry.

There's no reason to have those people not replying at all disadvantage the whos in the team who actual do care. :banghead:

One consideration with not giving any points if not everyone completes it, is that some people may decide to say they completed just to make sure they're not the ones to lose the teams points. Sure not many would but you never know.

Well, on this, I would like to think that everyone was being honest - call it naive, but at any rate, it is an accountability contest. If people don't complete it, they should fess up - it gives their team the opportunity to motivate them for the next week to get it done.

I do see your point though - so I've been thinking on doing some of the bonuses with extra points per person - but only on occasion.

allyphoe - I agree with your examples - good thinking. This way, the team won't be cut short, and no one will have to be eliminated. I do have to say that if lovebunchy doesn't check in at all this week, I will have to take her out of the contest. And then I will just take an average and figure it out.

Hope you guys are having a great weekend!

My name's Lori by the way if I didn't let you guys know before. :)

Hmm.. just a thought. Maybe we should give points for the number of people who do accomplish the bonus. For example if one person on the team completes the bonus, the teams gets 1 point, likewise with 2 and so on.. the team can earn up to 5 points that way and the whole team accomplishes the bonus the team gets the entire 15 points. That way people are being acknowledged for their efforts regardless of whether or not everyone completes the bonus challenge.

I agree with allyphoe regarding team rearranging and what not. I think that would be the most effective way of dealing with the situation.

My personal preference would be to re-assign the teams this one time since we just got started and some people have obviously dropped out already.

I'd rather have 2 teams since more may drop out and more people posting in a thread = more motivation.

I'd like it if individuals still got their points, despite people on the team not getting their full points. I'd even prefer that we get points per day rather than all or nothing.

But whatever way is cool with me. Thanks for letting me check in late :).

I agree with the two team idea. It would be a great motivation and also help if people drop out- it won't affect the teams so much.

Morning everyone! Great ideas from everyone..thanks for the feedback! :)

So, we've come to a little bump in the road with people not checking in.

After reading all of your ideas, here's how it will play out --

I will keep the teams the same for this week - if the same people don't check in on Saturday, then I will rearrange the teams, but everyone will still keep their individual points. We won't have to start completely fresh.

Bonus Challenge Points - my initial thinking with this was a "team effort" being rewarded. The point of this contest was to keep each other on track and motivated. That is why any extra points are given if the entire team completes the challenge.

But, to accomodate everyone - you will receive 2 points if you complete the bonus challenge. Your team will receive 15 extra points if EVERYONE on the team completes the bonus.

For those of you that have the same people NOT check in this week, you will get the 15 points if the remaining people all do the bonus challenge.

But, if we end up rearranging teams, it will be all or nothing. Once we eliminate the people that have dropped out, every team member will have to complete the bonus in order for the team to get 15 extra points - whether or not everyone checks in. (I want to avoid rearranging teams every week)

Make sense?

Ummmm. Since the teams are possibly being rearranged anyway, would it be at all possible for me to join? This is exactly what I need (I have been gone for a while, not doing everything that I should and I am ready to start at it again. If you look at my diary, in the beginning, it was updated at least once a day so it'll be something that I'll definitely participate in.) If not, that's cool as I totally missed the cut off date.
