Weight-Loss 4 Week Get-Ready-for-Summer Challenge Chat Thread

Weight-Loss
I dont like to change the rules midstream so I prefer that we leave the all or nothing approach as is. Whenever more than one person is the lowest scorer, the person(s) with the lowest post count in this chat thread will be eliminated. Therefore Stacey and Relly (et al) will not be eliminated (I'd hate that!). A number of people didn't update their points so its hard to tell who has been eliminated.

I think Cassie hit the nail on the head: I think we need the threat of possible elimination to get that 4 hours of exercise and eat well. I made sure it wasn't too many hours and only 5 days of good eating to get the minimum points. I found we were all really motivated with this structure during the last challenge, but it seems having 2 teams seemed to increase the competitiveness and motivation. I find the threat of elimination always frightens me into getting my minimum exercise!

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR POINTS, EVEN IF TO ADD ZERO.

Hello Ms. Busy Bee! :hug2:

Thanks for the update Claudia.

I updated my section. :)

Glad to hear Relly and I are still in it.

Thanks Kimberly, Stacy and Angelica. Thanks also to David. As predicted my weight is slightly above goal today (I weighed under more normal circumstances) - and appear to have a pound to go. The ticker is staying where it is though. I am not altering it for day to day fluctuations these days and if I have had a low weight I am keeping it on my ticker for a while....

I really didnt expect it to nudge under yesterday - and it certainly put me into a shocked state!!!

The project has taken 27 months - as I started it in late February 2007. It will have to be a life-long project for me though as I can gain weight far too easily. The bulk of my weight loss took place in the first year though! It took my about 14 months to half my start weight - and the rest has come off comparitively slowly.

I have done lots of challenges on the way down. I used to join almost all the challenges until I went missing. I have always found them very motivating. I didnt stop my project - I just stopped coming to the forum very often. I must admit that I am one of the people that like to try to scoop maximum bonus points - it kind of makes up for my weight loss always being erratic. I often spend nearly half the month (or it seems like that) retaining water - so I get terrible gains then. That is why counting sodium is more important for me than counting calories in so many ways.... My calories tend to be pretty good these days - but the sodium can jump out and surprise you.

Week 2

Mon - AM - walk/jog/run - 1hr 15min 4.65miles
PM - Lower body weight training / 15 mins on the cross ramp total time approx 1 hr

Tue - AM - 1hr bike ride

Wed - AM - 1 hr 15 min walk/jog/run

I had a nice surprise this afternoon when i weighed in before my shower to see a joyful 179.6, my lowest number yet :)...
I think the thing about my stomache looking a little rounder i mentioned a while back was some water retention... the last 24 hours i've been peeing quite frequently and it seems a little flatter already, and very suddenly im down a few lbs? Im no scientist but thats my educated guess lol

That is freakin awesome! Congrats on the new low! I just read on Steve's guru' site (Lyle McDonald) that there is a theory that water fills up the fat in the fat cell when it is lost, so you still look and weigh as before, then all of a sudden you get a "swoosh" effect (as it is called) and the water is released from the fat cell and suddenly you lose a bunch of pounds and look slimmer.

I guess I forgot yesterday's post, better late...

I didn't do well eating wise, went to a restaurant. Ended up at 3400 calories. That's about 200 more than I like to see on an exercise day. It is still an overal deficit, but not "on plan". Exercise I did an hour of cycling, exactly 16 miles.

Guess I'll have to eat right for the remainder of the week to make sure I get my five days.

Currently at 4:16 for exercise.

Thanks for updating cherry. I'll give it to today for everyone else to please update your points in the points thread. Thanks :)

So I've been very good with my eating since this challenge started. I haven't done any exercise this week until yesterday, when I did 30 minutes on the elliptical. Will need to do another 30 mins tonight and then an hour of exercise on Fri, Sat, Sun (my days off).

After shedding the 2 pounds of water weight at the beginning, my weight has fluctuated from 146.5 to 148.5 despite eating well and with no rhyme or reason. Arrrrrgh.

Hello Everyone.

:grouphug:

I have to get on the ball as well Claudia..

I only have 69 mins. of fitness so far.

(on Tuesday) My leg was bothering me from the tough walk my friend and I take and then I didn't have good time management yesterday before church.

My leg is better so we will take our hour walk tonight.

Man, today has been rough for me so far.. *cries*

Horrible allergies this morning and NO smoking.

Hubby and I are so broke.. That's one way to quit smoking I tell ya..
When ya have to pick between feeding your family or smoking.

This has always been a very difficult thing for me since I'm a nervous person with disorders. lol

God help me!!!

Suddenly realised that it is a few days since I updated with specifics......

Recap and update on my progress:

cals 1570, protein 76.2, fibre 58.1, calcium 1463.7, sodium 1297.7

Wednesday:
Exercise - 1hr 50 mins
cals 1539, protein 95.4, fibre 58.3, calcium 1251.9, sodium 2028.5

I had to estimate as best I could. Eating out is almost impossible to estimate regarding sodium as even when people are trying to be supportive they may happily add salt in the cooking and you cannot really ask too many questions without appearing to be rude.
cals 1748, protein 96.9, fibre 47.9, calcium 1347.7, sodium 2514.7

Sunday:
exercise 2hrs 40 mins outdoor walking at approx 3mph
cals 1376, protein 84.4, fibre 47.3, calcium 1267.9, sodium 2074.0

Week 1 totals
exercise 18hrs 20 mins
avg cals 1595 which happens to be nicely in my preferred range...

Week 2
======
Monday:
exercise 1hr 50mins on the tradmill at 4.0mph after the journey home
cals 1591, protein 69.8, fibre 64.3, calcium 1326.7, sodium 1176.7
I was really pleased with my food as Monday was Rod's birthday. My only deviation from normal eating patterns was that I had 3 Cadbury's mini eggs when Rod opened a bag he had from Easter. They are 15 calories each of normal chocolate.

Tuesday:
exercise 1hr 30mins on the treadmill at 4.0 mph
1 hr 20 mins outdoors at approx 3.0 mph
cals 1544, protein 91.8, fibre 60.5, calcium 1257.7, sodium 1946.6

Wednesday:
exercise 2hrs 40mins outdoor walking at approx 3mph to get to the dentist and back
45 mins - I had an hour long dance class - but only class it as 45 mins as there are times when you are being shown new steps....
cals 1674, protein 114.8, fibre 61.3, calcium 1966.2, sodium 1573.4

Thursday is going well thus far. I have done 7.25 miles at 4mph on the treadmill and followed my normal daily food plan. I tend to only vary my main meal and possibly vary things a little in the fruit that I eat.

My weight today is again tantalisingly close to goal but above it. The ticker is staying where it is though - I know that I got the reading on Tuesday! I cannot wait for that last pound to disappear again. It must be all in food / toilet weight.

Stacy, any time you need to vent, scream, cry or hit something because of the nicotine cravings you come on over to my place ya hear? I quit those evil things last august after smoking them for 25 years. BELIEVE me, anyone knows what you are going through, it's me.

And Claudia, it isn't an easy choice, I remember times when I've gone through the house, laundry room, couch cushions, etc. trying to scrape up change to buy a pack on the day before payday...

I'm so glad that isn't me anymore... but I feel anyone who is going through it.

I did good today so far. This should make up for yesterday. I got 30 minutes of weights and 46 of cycling. I'm at 5:32 for the week for exercise, but will have to wait now and make sure I'm good for a couple more days of eating before I post points, since I slipped a bit on Wednesday.

5/21 Thursday

I replied in your diary Karl. ;) Thanks so much sweetie! <3

What a rough day! :willy_nilly:

I have cried and had panic attacks.

I want to go get ciggs so badly. :(

*****
Meals have been on target.

I didn't get my long walk tonight bc my friend Debbie was busy packing for her weekend trip.
ZuZu and I got out though and went to the park with pond.

We walked briskly with a few grass/tree sniffing stops...
* 30 Mins - 1.5 ml

I need ta go hop in the shower and get all this sweat off..

:seeya:

My plate today was good, much cleaner than yesterday :blush5:

2694 calories - low for an exercise day, 93g fat, 273 g carbs, 200g protein, I even got a damn near perfect ratio 40% carbs, 30% fat 30% protein.

It was hot here today, had to get plenty of water for my ride.

I'm sorry but I am removing myself from the challenge. Im dealing with ALOT of stress right now and I have one situation in paticular that has really gotten me...I dont have the focus I need to worry about following through and posting and following a challenge.

Claud - Ya know :beating:I love you:beating:Babe:beating:and I support you always but I gotta sit this one out...

Emotionally Im not here or anywhere for that matter, im not in my game right now:(

Cerella - sorry to see that things are getting so badly on top of you. I hope that things improve soon for you.

I can understand how posting and trying to keep a track of exercise and eating habits can be a bit much when life is going down that path. If you can do any positive actions that you can (while not keeping track or being too strict) it will save the next round from being that much harder. It is at times of stress that it is all too easy to gain weight.

If there is any way that talking things over with a friend would help - you know how to find a whole load of friends both here and on FB.

thanx Margaret I actually posted abt it in my diary. I'm not like spiralling outta control or nothing I'm not here ya know.I'm gonna get back into my tennis as our weather is finally better again and I'm gonna watch my food. I just can't do this right now ya know.I'm sad hurt and broken down. I need this time for me to deal.
