maybe my treadmill is off then... i dont understand how everyone is able to walk at 3-4 mph... i push it so that my calves are burning im walking so fast but theres no possible way i could walk at 3mph i definatley have to run... either way i suppose it doesnt matter as long as i keep pushing myself and im feeling like im working hard, it just sucks if your trying to compare yourself to see whats normal and it doesnt seem physically possible to reach those speeds especially for 2 HOURS! I cant run for more then 3-5 minutes let alone a single hour lol
The easiest way to judge is to measure a mile in your car and then walk between those points as quickly as you can and see how many minutes it takes. If it takes 15 minutes you are doing 4mph - if it takes 20 minutes you are doing 3mph. If it takes 30 minutes you are doing 2mph. Alternatively use a pedometer. Maybe check one against the other.
I do walk a lot - and it is quite possible that I can walk at a faster speed than you. I am not sure what speed I was able to do when my BMI was at your level. I really didnt care about speed until I got the treadmill and by then my BMI was quite a bit lower. When I started I went at an absolute snail's pace.
I have just counted out how many steps I am doing for some sample distance stages. I do between 22 and 23 steps per hundredth of a mile - call it 22.5 steps then.
I should add that whilst the motion of my legs and feet say that I am walking - it is a speed whereby you certainly perspire a fair bit and would not want to talk because your focus is so much needed on the exercise that you are doing. You undeniably feel that you are pushing yourself. I suspect that I would be running / jogging if I moved my feet higher and moved my centre of gravity forward - even though I might not be going too much faster - but am pretty sure that I would trip up if I tried.
