You're confusing me, Omega. Isn't the "new exercise" just the alternative to if you can't get outside? You don't have to do one every single day, if you exercise outside for at least 1/2 hour, right?

Yes - it is the alternative for if you cannot get outside.

I copied in both the rulings on the subject as they were written.

I guess it is down to us all to work out what points we can claim...
Maybe I didnt write it down exactly correctly - but it certainly serves as a memory aid for the things that we can be claiming points for. Christine hadnt seen that there were any points up for grabs regarding special types of exercise...

I like seeing if I can do both new exercise and outdoor walking... That way - if I havent understood it properly and get challenged on it - I should be able to get the points either way...

Got in yet another hour of outdoor walking in addition to an hour on the bike this morning. I'm finding that I'm struggling with wanting to drink water for the past couple of days, though.

Tomorrow I'm helping out with a field trip my daughter is going on, so I'm sure I won't be getting in the water I should. They'll be going to a park though, so I'll be spending plenty of time outside.

It would appear that I made an error in the scoresheets, and didn't double check weight loss and percentages properly. I will have to go through every single sheet again and recheck numbers. From the looks of it, something that I thought was self-explanatory, wasn't so simple after all. :(

I will go through the sheets and adjust as necessary.

The problem is that people who happened to gain weight at some point, and then lost the next week, used the higher weight from the week before to calculate their percentage. Obviously that is not how it is supposed to be. So to make sure, here is how it works:

If you GAIN weight at any given point, and then LOSE the week after, please use your lowest weight so far to calculate your actual loss, NOT the higher weight from the week before.

Example:

Week 1: 250 lbs
Week 2: 252 lbs
Week 3: 248 lbs

You weight loss in week three would be 2 lbs, not 4. Taking into account weight gained would mean that you could basically count your weight loss twice, which would be rather unfair.

As said, I will go through the spreadsheets again and have a look, and adjust numbers and percentages where necessary.

Based on that, it would appear that Justina is not the person with the biggest weight loss last week, but I have to crunch some numbers to be absolutely sure.

Sorry about the confusion.

Also, we had a dropout from the challenge. I will try to fill the void.

New mini challenge for next week, as sent to me by Christine: :)

25 jumping jacks starting Saturday and increased by 5 everyday for 2 points. (Apparently, Jumping Jacks are also known as 'Star Jumps')
No pre-packaged food like frozen dinners, pizza, chicken wings, and nothing you can microwave for 2 mins for a quick meal. The idea is to get back to the basics. When all this stuff was not available to us and to eat the way we are suppose to be eating without all the chemicals and salt for another 2 points.
And One more no weighing for a week..I know this is hard for us cause alot of us are scale junkies..But lets look in the mirror instead ofa scale to make us feel good..Its not all about the numbers..for another 2 points. (Obviously, other than the weigh in on Saturday)

Some changes to next week's challenge, please read:

1) Jumping Jacks - as with any exercise, any kind of modification that anybody needs to make the exercise possible for them is okay. Also, I am dropping the amount from 25 to 10, and then at least one more than the day before on each consecutive day. How many more is up to how much you want/can do.

2) The weighing in thing is only 2 points overall, not 2 points per day. So it shouldn't make a great difference whether you decide to do it or not.

3) The third part about the non-microwave stuff stays as it is.

I hope this helps. As said, there will always be challenges that are unpopular with some people (this one certainly is with me! ) but that is why it is called a challenge in the first place.

Please note that Christine has updated the mini challenge rules to explain what she actually wants it to be.

This is a change from San's announcement.

Hey guys in response to all questions,
the weighing in is 2 points a day not a week.I assumed everyone knew that because we do our points daily..It is a real challenge for me as well because I weigh sometimes twice a day,why I am considering this a challenge for all of us and for me..If it doesnt work for some of you because it keeps you on track..I understand that as well but its only for a week.We are losing weight for a lifetime.
The jumping jacks starts off with 25 on saturday ..then 30 on sunday etc..
I should of been clearer on the microwaveable stuff..I know people cook their potatoes in the mic.thats fine.canned vegetable soup is fine as wellI know some people are on weight watchers which is fine too But canned pastas like chef boyardee is not ..lol or pizza pockets..which I love by the way.anything frozen except beef chicken, pork is not allowed..I hope this sums it up.

so (as I understand it)

1/ Jumping jacks back up to 25 as a start amount and increasing by 5 every subsequent day.
2/ No weighing gives 2 points per day
3/ Microwaving some food is ok - it all depends on the kind of food being heated up. If in doubt - ask for a ruling.

My daughter had her field trip today and we walked along a trail and played in a park. I'd say we spent close to 1 1/2 hours outside. I'd actually like to go back to the nature center and park when it's warmer out. It was just so cold and muddy today.

I'm lagging on my water today (I didn't drink any this AM because I didn't want to be taking bathroom breaks left and right). I still have 1 1/2 liters and 30 minutes of exercise left to go.

I'm going to get to work on my water and bike exercise. I'm tired of arguing the points on the next mini-challenge. This is supposed to be a positive experience, but so many people are complaining about mini-challenges, that it's starting to take away the fun of it.

Good luck to my teammates today. Stay hydrated.

Yes - within this thread - lets focus on what is happening this week.

Belinda - I imagine that you enjoyed your trip out yesterday - so were nicely able to combine earning challenge points with a fun day out... Its a shame that the weather was not better for you.

Did you manage to get through any more of your water? Some days it is really tricky to get up to 3 litres... I always find that last half litre the hardest... Thankfully I normally need only shoot for 2.5 litres when there is no challenge involved because the recommendation is based on weight and 3 litres is the quantity for someone who weighs about 200 pounds... Lighter people normally get to drink less and heavier people get to drink more...

I had another max points day yesterday and did a zumba class in addition to outdoor walking...

I have had 1 litre so far today. I have also been out walking for just over an hour. It has been raining here today - but I went out when it turned to drizzle... Luckily it stopped raining while I was out. I have two salsa classes later so exercise is no problem.

The no junk and no salt thing should be no problem as I have both of these pretty much under control.

I actually did manage to get in all 3 liters. I was pushing it, considering I didn't start drinking anything until about 12:30 PM yesterday and finished up at about 9 PM. It seemed I was drinking non-stop.

It's sunny and supposed to be a lot warmer today than yesterday (high in the 70s). I've already gotten my 2 points for exercise so I'm going to get cleaned up from that and try to get my daughter to walk outside (she takes the easy way out and wants to be carried, lol).

Well done in getting all those water points... I know that it isnt easy.

LOL - just think - if you carry your daughter when out walking it counts as both cardio with the walking and ST because that is a weight you are lifting. :)

Right.

I'm not even going to start to answer individual posts.

Since everybody seems so keen on it, the mini challenge stands as it was originally posted by Christine. Disregard anything that I put up. That includes alternate exercises.

Starting the week after, the mini challenge will be ONE thing, not two or three. Please take that into account if you happen to be the next person to come up with a challenge.

Also, we will have to look at the situation with the teams, since we've lost a considerable amount of people now. I still haven't heard from Brad, so I don't know what's happening there.

The thing is, she weighs 35 lbs... Carrying that for 1/2 hour straight would have my arms dead/useless for the rest of the day!

And I'm glad to see the mini-challenge is back to what the last winner wanted it to be.
