Weight-Loss Who would be interested in a WL competition??

Weight-Loss
Transparent - thanks for announcing the mini challenge.

I am sure that I will manage to do this. I am normally pretty good at doing nothing... :)

Nice one transparent. I'm looking forward to trying out this challenge.

There is an argument that says that after a certain number of "no show" weeks - challenge players should be deemed to have resigned from the challenge...

It would be down to Korrie to decide whether this is relevant and how such a situation should be handled...

It could have the impact of altering the scaling multiplier which in turn would increase the exercise and mini challenge earned points in the team where no shows have occurred.

It would also alter the weight lost since these teams would lose the weight lost by the people that have dropped out and the remainder would be scaled upwards. We have after all no idea whether the weight that these people have lost has been maintained or indeed the weight may have been regained.

It may give greater incentive to team members where people appear to have dropped out...

I am well aware that such a move would put me lower down the individual weight loss table since many of the people below me would disappear... As a PCOS lady I have got used to getting poorer weight loss than the average person that works as hard... Thank goodness that hard work is recognised with points for my team...

Aye funnily enough was thinking the same recently. Was considering from March re-doing the scaled to remove people who are absent for a long time. (Leaving them on table, just re-working the scaling just to count active people)

Just to give rough example of amount of weigh-ins since some people last spoke:

2 weeks
Loch
mac5in2003

3 weeks

4 weeks
mrxian
UnstopableHeart
Jericho

5 weeks
Monster

5 weeks in, and 4 people have missed 4 weeks worth (Or basically on did first week, or less)

One to two weeks absense ok may be holiday/forgot/time etc, but surely 3+ weeks people aren't competing anymore?

My personal thoughts would be leave them on the tables, just count them out of the team points scaling. Then if they do return and have their weighins they can be re-added easily :D

But end of day, it still comes back to the last weigh-in that counts. Never know what's going to happen in the nesxt 5 weks :) Just hope everyone who's around stays, and works their butt off!

Steve

Steve - I think that your 3.4 pounds of weight loss was the largest weight loss posted regarding the 15th February.

If anyone has more to post they should post something in this thread and let us know.

I would anticipate that Korrie will be getting in touch with you shortly to ask about a mini challenge for the week starting Friday. I suggest that you give some thought to the kind of task that you would set.

We have to remember that Friday is tomorrow for the people that live in Australia and New Zealand - so it is only fair for a challenge to be posted today to let them know what is expected of them tomorrow.

Yea, Steve, go ahead and come up with next weeks mini challenge if you want. Congrats on the loss!

As far as those no shows go...I am ok with 'booting' anyone that has not checked in after a month. I think thats being really generous. Its too bad...but it happens every time! I've always said 1/2 the battle of winning a challenge is staying in it.

I'm inclined to think that a cull will help to motivate some of the people in teams that appear to have lost people. The remaining members will see the scaled points rise dramatically and they will see the points that they earn through exercise and mini bonuses get multiplied. There will be the case where remaining members will envisage that they are getting maybe double points for exercising!!! That should be a good incentive.

Hmm, hopefully this isn't against any unwritten rules! :D

Thought I'd try something different this week! The mini-challenge is....

Many Mini Challenges! bwahahaha! :reddevil:

So for this week, a total of 10 points can be earnt (No more!) No specific days per challenge.

1 point for trying a new fruit/veg you've never had before (4 items - 4 points total) - As requested, can re-use fruit/veg over 2 years old!
2 points for writing up a whole days food log into your relevant teams thread (2 days - 4 points total)
3 points for replacing your two daily drive/cycle to XYZ location with a nice walk (2 times - 6 points total)
4 points for uploading a picture of yourself at your heighest weight, and current weights (Obviously can obscure faces etc if you want) (1 set - 4 points total)

Hopefully that makes sense, and no-one is currently wanting to kill me! :D

As an example, Mr Bob eats 3 new fruits, walks twice to work, and and uploads a picture, and gets 10 points! (3+3+4).

Feel free to mix/match as you want, any 10 points worth is usable :) And it doesn't need to be huge items, not asking anyone to replace a 40mile drive with walking etc lol :D Just trying to get threads a bit more active! *pokes Platinum/Victory*

Steve

- Edit :

To Clarify about those who always do walk instead of cycle/cars, based on the NHS page I'll say an additional 20minutes (or 2000 steps if you count) walk, can count as the replacement. (Note not part of normal excercise etc)

Hopefully that's fair amount that those who already walk can do without it being annoying.

Dang Steve, why do you want to do this to me:svengo:

What? :blush5: Thought it would be a nice alternative! :D As I said you can mix/match, so no doing certain things if you don't want! hehe.

There's 18~ points total, so can skip 8 and still get full amount :D

Steve

So - I have a few questions...

Looking at this - what if you are a veteran of challenges and have tried pretty much every fruit and veg you can think of?

1 point for trying a new fruit/veg you've never had before (4 items - 4 points total)

For instance - here are the fruit and veg that I went on record on this forum as having had in the 2009 Summer Shake up challenge that I ran:

http://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/32212-Summer-Shake-Up-Challenge-Scoresheets

Wk1 fruit/veg: apples, pears, bananas, strawberries, plums, red grapes, baked beans, celery, tomato, red onion, spring onion, red pepper, cucumber, iceberg lettuce, carrot, cauliflower, green beans, broccoli, celeriac, beetroot, mushrooms
Wk2 fruit/veg not in wk1 list: yellow pepper, green grapes, green pepper, figs, romaine, cherry tomatoes
Wk3 fruit/veg not in wk1/wk2 lists: mango, grapefruit, spinach, watercress, rocket, physalis, galia melon, cantaloupe melon, honeydew melon, courgette(=zuchini)
Wk4 fruit/veg not in any prev lists: peaches, lemon, curly kale, swede, white onion, peas, sweetcorn
Wk5 fruit/veg not in any prev lists: kiwi fruit, satsumas, chick peas, avacado, blueberries
Wk6 fruit/veg not in any prev lists: parsnips, nectarine, clementines, aubergine(=eggplant), orange
Wk7 fruit/veg not in any prev lists: rhubarb, lychees, sugar snap peas, apricots, passion fruit
Wk8 fruit/veg not in any prev lists: brussels sprouts, broad beans, leek, pineapple, sharon fruit
Wk9 fruit/veg not in any prev lists: savoy cabbage, fine green beans, mange tout, babycorn, blackberries

I am not the only person in this challenge who took part in that challenge...

This is not a full list of things that I have had... Just the list from one challenge and I have been in lots of them - here and elsewhere...

Can people opt for something that they havent eaten for maybe the last two years if they are struggling to find something?

Alternatively could you post a link of fruit and veg suggestions that are realistically available to buy that would be extensive enough that people could gain inspiration?

3 points for replacing your two daily drive/cycle to XYZ location with a nice walk (2 times - 6 points total)

what about people that do not drive or cycle anywhere? - I walk... I do not cycle... I do not drive...
Can I for instance hit a daily step count on two days and if so - how many steps... I wear a pedometer every day.

If alternatives are not available - my team will be penalised for me having already adopted healthy habits.

My office is 27.4 miles away one way, The nearest store that I go to is 7.1 miles away from the house one way, and there are no sidewalks in the crap hole town I live in. I walk miles every day at work so you can give me a ruling on that Steve. I was a vegetarian for years so it will be a challenge to find something new to try, but luckily I'll be going to Austin where there will be a good selection.

Interesting take on mini challenge Steve.

eek, that's a lot of fruit and veg Omega! :( But yes that sounds fair enough, If you've never had it in the last 2 years that's fine! :) Didn't want to post a list as such just because of people living in different areas/climates you never know what's readily available to everyone :D

In terms of the walking one I'll try to work out a figure, as I honestly have no idea on an average step per day anyway ;(

Steve

Thanks Steve.
I remember that I pushed San's fruit and veg boundaries in that challenge - so I am pretty sure that she would have had problems too. I have found lists of fruit and vegetables in the past and identified things that I had never had but then not been able to buy them. I have had some wierd and wonderful things in other challenges that are not on that list too.

You may find the following information interesting:

I suggest that you opt for a minimum of 10,000 steps in the day - but you may want to go higher. If people do not have a pedometer they could cover that step count off by walking a known distance of 5 miles... That kind of thing can be done by people walking a distance that they have measured in a car or on a treadmill.

12,000 steps is generally thought of as equivalent to 6 miles.

I tend to do a lot of steps - and wear a pedometer all day long - but some people do not wear a pedometer.

Just to let people know I've made a lot of changes on the new tables, so you can find the last week of February added onto this post: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/thre...ested-in-a-WL-competition?p=850689#post850689

The numbers next to the names below = weeks not updated. Don't worry about it, until it hits 4 then you're out! Pewpew :) So even those who haven't posted today yet will show as 1, but it'll go to 0 after you post!

Tables also scaled now to remove those who are "OUT"
