Hey Tom, I hope you are off that plateau soon, but even if not you are losing fat and doing fine.

One thing I have read is that drinking less leads to water retention. Your body is trying to hand on to all the water it can when you don't drink a lot. I am no expert, but in my case I can tell that drinking more liquids does not cause me to gain weight, except for a few hours after drinking it.

My weight varies widely, and I am in maintenance and except for the occasion binge I am not eating more or less calories. Trying for calorie break even. I just went down 16 pounds in about a week, and during that week I binged. I know that loss has nothing to do with fat, its water and maybe the mass of solids in my digestive system. This isn't the first time, and I know it will go back up one day, maybe next week, or it might keep going down, who knows. I have varied by almost 30 lbs in the last 3 months, up and down, with no real changes in calorie intake. My point is your plateau is within the range of "normal" for what you are doing, if you were not in a calorie deficit it probably would have been a gain. I find posting weight every day here helps me understand and cope with it. I have not figured out what the cause of the ups and downs has been. Every time I have a theory the next bounce seems to contradict it... But at least I have learned that.

I know I wasn't drinking very much. That was a given. So maybe I was really dehydrated. I do think I am doing really well at staying hydrated now though. I worked out in the yard about 2 hours today. I soaked my clothes through twice, but I drank quite a bit to compensate. Even sitting here, I need to make a trip so I know I'm not dehydrated now. So I'm good with that. I do tend to retain water in the Summer time and if I sit too much (which I often do) water pools in my legs and calves. And I've talked to doctors about this. To counteract it, I try and keep my sodium level lower around 1500. If I am sweating a lot, I don't worry if it creeps up some. I know I lose sodium when I sweat. And I can sweat. One year, I went to Mexico for the weekend. I drank over a gallon of water a day and didn't go to the restroom all weekend and lost six pounds. It was horrible. It took me a week to get back to normal from that trip. It was very hot and humid then. I also try and walk about 7000-8000 steps. I break it up into 1 mile segments so I am walking 3 or 4 times a day and that helps with the sitting too much and circulation. So for clarity, I am counting my calories every day, walking 7000-8000 steps a day, and yard work 3 to 4 times a week, usually an hour each time if not two. One thing I will say is that my stamina is getting much, much better. So I should be in a calorie deficit from what everything is telling me. It'll be interesting to see what tomorrow shows. One thing I really like about weighing every day is it keeps me honest. Before, I was like it won't hurt to cheat, I have three or four days before I have to weigh again. Now, it's like "don't touch that!", "What are you thinking????" you have to weigh tomorrow! The mental aspect of all of this can be very challenging!

Well. I couldn't believe it, so I weighed about 6 times and this is the number it settled on. I also double checked it against another scale that we have so it seems legit, for today anyway. I've been working on techniques for water drainage, but I think, overall, my gutters needed to be cleaned out also. The challenge for this next week is rain everyday. I need to stay as active as possible and try not to retain water as much, but heck, isn't that the challenge every day? Next week, I can put limbs out for the city to pick up so it will be a very busy week as there are tons this time.

I can see that I have missed a lot here, that is great Err, being in the 100s is an amazing accomplishment, good for you!
That's a new low for you isn't it Tom? And getting really close to the 250 mark!

Well my weight is up, not too surprising after the big binge. I am sure that at least most of it is water, and if I can stay on track it should go down again. I have been weighing daily, but not posting, just catching up now. Will try to be here daily, it helps me.
  • July 2020, entered maintenance at 167 lbs, after both my doctor and trainer said I needed to lose no more.
  • August began daily weighing, ranged 163 to 159.
  • September began 160, ended 158, ranged 160 to 154.
  • October began 159, ended 158, ranged from 155 to 162.
  • November began 160, ended 153, ranged from 153 to 164.
  • December averaged 156 and ranged from 151 to 159.
  • January 2021 averaged 155 and ranged from 149 to 160.
  • February averaged 156 but ranged wildly 145 to 166.
  • March averaged 147, ranged from 143 to 153, the high just the one day after surgery.
  • April was not a great month, averaged 157 but ended at 164..., ranged from 147 to 166.
  • May was not-so-great , I averaged 156 and ranged from 149 to 165, unfortunately I ended the month with a binge and up into the 160s
June 2021
  • 1 - 160 lbs
  • 2 - 158 lbs
  • 3 - 156 lbs
  • 4 - 155 lbs
  • 5 - 155 lbs
  • 6 - 156 lbs
  • 7 - 155 lbs
  • 8 - 156 lbs
  • 9 - 156 lbs
  • 10 to 17 - a kind of binge filled rumspringa whilst on vacation, no scales.

  • 21 - 165 lbs

  • 24 - 158 lbs
  • 25 - 156 lbs

  • 27 - 159 lbs, the binge begins
  • 28 - 165 lbs, just after the big binge
  • 29 - 167 lbs, frequently seem to see some post binge water..
After losing about 160 lbs I began maintenance in July 2020 and am trying to stay somewhere in or close to the 150s.

Yes Sir! Hopefully, it will end up a bit lower this week. Not sure, I'll go below 250 yet, but it's a hope. Glad to see ya!

Thanks Tom, and good luck with 250, I am sure it's coming.

Err, camping is good, hope you are enjoying it. Being on track is better!

June has been a wild ride for me, and not the best one. I averaged 160, the highest average month since I have been keeping track of daily weight. Too many binges. And I am beginning to wonder if trying to stay in the 150s is too aggressive for me... We'll see.

  • June was not too great either, too many binges (one is too many, but there were more than one) and my weight went up a bit. However I have found I feel a bit better, or think I do when eating a bit more, so will try to use it as a lesson learned. Averaged 160 and ranged 155 to a one day peak of 172.
July 2021
  • 1 - 162 lbs
After losing about 160 lbs I began maintenance in July 2020 and am trying to stay somewhere in or close to the 150s.

Happy July! Hope it is a good month for us all.

June has been a wild ride for me, and not the best one. I averaged 160, the highest average month since I have been keeping track of daily weight. Too many binges. And I am beginning to wonder if trying to stay in the 150s is too aggressive for me... We'll see.
  • July 2020, entered maintenance at 167 lbs, after both my doctor and trainer said I needed to lose no more.

I'm severely frustrated and disappointed to say the least. It's to the point now, I don't trust the scale. Maybe, I actually weigh more. Our new scale can fluctuate 3 to 5 pounds depending on where I stand and how I stand or if my mouth is cockeyed or not. If I stick my tongue out, it could be down. If I smile, it could be up. But at least, it's digital and I can read it. We do have another scale (non-digital) that I can compare against. They are usually 2 to 3 pounds different. I have to take my glasses off and squint to see where the needle lines up. It's more like using a measuring tape. Neither scale is moving in the right direction.

The first six weeks were pretty easy. I put in the effort and lost weight and it was noticeable. Now, I'm putting in the same effort, if not more, and struggling to keep the scale from going up. Honestly, I posted a loss for June, but truthfully, I could step on the scale tomorrow and it could all be gone and I can't tell you why. If it wasn't for the fact that I am close to being considered morbidly obese, it would be different. If I was 30 or 40 pounds to my goal weight, it'd be different, but I'm not close. I'm barely out of the OBESE 3 category. I do know from weighing every day, for whatever reason, I tend to stay the same or up during the week and then see quite a drop on the weekends. I don't know why. In another life, when I worked every day and was off on the weekend, I was more active on the weekends so it made sense. You could argue that there was less stress on the weekends. But these days, every day is the same. Things going on around you make sure there is no let up in stress. The only way I know the day changes is to look at the calendar. If anything I put in more effort during the week now than on the weekends. I'm tired of feeling sick and I am losing motivation to exercise. My feet hurt, my back hurts, I'm off balance. Just because you eat better, and exercise doesn't mean you feel better.

So what is my goal for July? I don't have one. There's nothing I can count on. The only thing I can do is do the best I can and focus on something else entirely because putting in effort and struggling just leads me deeper into the pit, and I'm already at rock bottom.

The only thing I'm interested in doing is to figure out a more accurate way of showing what my daily deficit is. Supposedly, I'm at a deficit of about 2 pounds a week. I've only gone over calories 3 times and it wasn't more than 500 and supposedly I'm more at a deficit of that each day. I've seen others post their daily deficits. Yesterday, I ran into a webpage from some college or whatever that showed a breakdown of exercises and if they are considered light, moderate or whatever. I've seen some formulas so what I'd like to do is come up with some kind of "calculator" in Excel that I can put in my stats, what I eat every day, and exercise and it'd show me my potential deficit for the day. I do have motivation to do this. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free.

Sorry for the downer here. I feel like I could almost break down today.
