I'm trying not to get frustrated being so close to the 190s for the last 2 weeks, but when I look back at the weekly averages I am bouncing around more or less on schedule:

That's an average deficit of ~400 calories/day for the last 4 weeks which should translate to about 3.2 lb of fat so the 4.3 lb I've actually lost puts me a little ahead of expectation. The daily variance just wasn't as noticeable back when I was able to lose 3-5 lb a week...

On the plus side, my waist measurement has now been under 50% of my height 5 out of the last 7 days. I haven't had a healthy waist/height ratio since I got my driver's license & stopped cycling @ age 16...

I'm back, actually I weighed in yesterday morning but did not want to post it... I had decided I would post today no matter what and I am down a little from yesterday, lost some water I guess.

Tom and Err, good to see you holding down the fort, and doing well! Wish I had done so well the past week.

  • July 2020, entered maintenance at 167 lbs, after both my doctor and trainer said I needed to lose no more.
  • August began daily weighing, ranged 163 to 159.
  • September began 160, ended 158, ranged 160 to 154.
  • October began 159, ended 158, ranged from 155 to 162.
  • November began 160, ended 153, ranged from 153 to 164.
  • December averaged 156 and ranged from 151 to 159.
  • January 2021 averaged 155 and ranged from 149 to 160.
  • February averaged 156 but ranged wildly 145 to 166.
  • March averaged 147, ranged from 143 to 153, the high just the one day after surgery.
  • April was not a great month, averaged 157 but ended at 164..., ranged from 147 to 166.
  • May was not-so-great , I averaged 156 and ranged from 149 to 165, unfortunately I ended the month with a binge and up into the 160s
June 2021
  • 1 - 160 lbs
  • 2 - 158 lbs
  • 3 - 156 lbs
  • 4 - 155 lbs

Ugh. I am retaining water. It's really hot and I am drinking a lot of water, but retaining some in my calves from sitting a lot. Got to find a better way of doing this.

Water weight absolutely sucks. Why bother?
 
Tom, there is nothing wrong with water weight, it is quite normal. We just have to understand it as best we can, and work on losing fat weight. You are losing fat every day you are in calorie deficit, but the water makes your weight bounce around so short term the loss can be hard to follow. Longer term it will go! Still knocking on that 200 lb door Err, I am sure you will get through it.

Well I binged last night on "healthy" Larabars, still too many calories, healthy or not. Did not effect my weight, not in one day anyway.

Thanks. I'm just frustrated although this isn't anything new on the water weight thing. I just did a big rant on my diary page. I understand your frustrations Tom, I think we all put too much emphasis on day to day weight changes. Posting daily here helps me with that and helps me put things into perspective, but to be honest I am still happier to see a loss than a gain, even when I know its all about water.
