Weigh Yourself Everyday (or frequently) Club

Nice new low Err, but now its time to fight off the virus. I suggest you keep posting your weight. For myself I know I found my weight gain after surgery distressful, but posting it here helped me better understand it and I got good support from you and others that helped. And in the end the gain was just temporary. I hope you have no gain, but if you do I am sure it will just be temporary.

LaMa you make a good point about trying to understand the gains and losses. I have found weighing ever day has helped me better understand, particularly the fact that ups and downs, at least short term, just happen. I think I can explain a part of that, I have learned some things, but there is a part I just can't explain. It does not always make sense to me why my body chooses to hold more water one day than the next.

Hey Vic, keep on coming back and you'll be fine!

Nothing new here... and I'm happy about it.

The friend with the fever got her covid test results back and they were negative. I still have no symptoms so I took a 2nd test yesterday and scheduled a 3rd for tomorrow in hopes of being that 1 in 500 PCR test false positive. I'll need 2 negative tests, spaced more than 24 hours apart, to break quarantine (False negatives are much more common - about 1 in 10 - hence the need for 2 negative tests).

Weight was unexpectedly lower, but I did start taking my ACE-inhibitor blood pressure medication again yesterday. My BP has been elevated (~130/80) since learning of my positive covid test and stressing about isolating from other members of the household as well as unsuccessfully fighting the medical bureaucracy to obtain monoclonal antibody treatment while they still may do me some good (I may have had more luck if I hadn't received my diagnosis on a Friday evening).

Into the 230s! Good for you. Now don't stress about staying there for the next few days, you have enough other things to think about right now. Don't know why you wouldn't be able to get the monoclonal antibody thing, if not you who would? Take care!

Nearing a new low LaMa! Good for you.

I have been surprisingly stable this month, except for the first 2 days I have been in a 3 pound range. Not sure what that means, probably nothing...

Fingers crossed. Either way I'd be curious to hear how it feels to be eating more for a while.
This will totally sound like 1st world problems, but I find it a little bit difficult. I'm trying to eat "good" foods so the extra calories are more nutrient dense than butter or mayonnaise or whatever. The first day it was mostly from fruits and I was so full I didn't want to eat more than 2000 or so calories. The 2nd day I added some brown rice and nuts which helped, but I still felt over full.

I fear when I go back to 1700-1800 I'll no longer feel full, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Thanks. My primary care physician offered me a telehealth appointment for today and, had I taken it, I'm pretty sure I could have got monoclonal antibodies today or tomorrow. But it is day 11 after exposure and they're really only beneficial in the first 10 days - the sooner the better. The treatment is basically a 1 hour plasma transfusion followed by a 1 hour observation period so it does put a lot of demand on the health care system. This is probably why 80% of the treatments are going unused:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/12/31/covid-monoclonal-antibodies-unused/

Since I continue to have no symptoms (other than elevated blood pressure which is not a recognized symptom of covid19), it didn't seem worth it now. I will really push to obtain it rapidly for anyone in my household who tests positive (so far all negative).

Perhaps more alarming is that I still have yet to be contacted by anyone from public health. There is the way things should be done, the way things are done in normal times (not as good), and the way things are done in the midst of a pandemic (lol bad).

I have been surprisingly stable this month, except for the first 2 days I have been in a 3 pound range. Not sure what that means, probably nothing...
You're doing fantastic. How is the shoulder?

Do you find it better to stay on track if you weigh everyday and does it not dishearten if you had a gain xx

Hey Err, I know what you mean about the discomfort increasing calories, I had and still have some of those feelings. I am 500+ calories above where I was for over a year in my weight loss phase, and to some extent I still eat similar meals, I have just added a big evening snack. Probably not the best way to up calories. And I worry about how hard it will be to drop the calories again, if I need to... Oh well, a much better problem than being over weight I guess.

None of the people I know who have gotten the virus have gotten much attention from the local health department. They say that since it has become so pervasive they are no longer trying to do the contact tracing thing, and apparently they must think people already know about quarantining etc... I don't know anyone who has gotten the monoclonal antibody treatment. Did not know about the process you describe, that has to be stopping some folks from getting it.

Hope you continue to show no symptoms, I supposed the best outcome would be for you to have the virus, but without the symptoms. That way I think you would get immunity without having been sick. Good that you have held onto the weight you have lost!

My shoulder continues to get better, but slowly and with minor setbacks. I think it will be ok in the end, maybe never quite as good as it once was, but then what is? Thanks for asking. Not much new on my weight, just as well.

Definitely a first world problem but isn´t that exactly why we´re here? I know the feeling, by the way. I still find it hard to "dose" the unhealthy foods and for a long time found it hard to get to my needed calories with healthy food (while not eating enough would make me binge).

For me weighing myself every day is ok. It annoys me to see the number when it´s higher than I´d expected but knowing is better than pretending. And it gets you used to the normal fluctuations. If you know you get obsessive if you weigh yourself every day: don´t do it. Very few people have a loss every single day so that´s just something you have to accept if you do decide to step on the scale every day.

I agree with LaMa, you get used to the ups and downs, I have even gained some limited understanding as to what causes them. Better to know than not, and there is no better way to see early warnings of a trend. But its not for everyone, you have to figure out what works best for you.

I find weighing first thing in the morning helps set the tone for the day and keeps me accountable. Yes, the random fluctuations can be frustrating, but they are part of learning and accepting your body. I know it is increasingly trendy to call rigid weighing & calorie counting "disordered eating" these days, but the head-in-the-sand approach I took earlier in life helped enable my massive weight gain.

I'm running into character limits, hence the 2nd posts...
Err, any progress on the virus? Did you get your second test back?
Still no symptoms.
1/6: Tested positive (PCR)
1/9: Tested negative (PCR)
1/11: awaiting test results (PCR)

The CDC says wait 10 days from 1st positive for mild or asymptomatic cases OR wait until after getting 2 negatives more than 24 hours apart. My pulse ox has been pretty constant 96-99, as has temperature (96.5-97.2) and resting heart rate (49-50). My blood pressure has been the only change I noticed - systolic now in the low 130s even with the ACE inhibitor - but it only elevated after I learned of my positive test result so I can't rule out stress/psychosomatic. I do find myself getting anxious whenever I cough to clear my throat or feel muscle soreness (today the soreness is in my calves and almost certainly from yesterday's 1000 jump rope skips).

I'm still isolating although starting today I am dropping my calorie target down to 1800 (which I won't hold myself to if hungry).

If you can skip 1000 times without feeling like you're dying your lungs are likely fine. Great to hear your second test was negative.
