Got a DXA scan today and it came back with 39.4% body fat so I think the Navy method will suffice for me. The scan was still informative - I'll post more about it in my diary...

Err - your scan sounds interesting.

I've been stuck in a rut for ages... The change in the weather has meant that I have had to change my food and have a lot less salads over the past week or so and that didn't help...

Hey Margaret, you know plateaus are normal, and so long as you stick to the diet don't last! More new lows for Err, that's great!

I know I did not really gain 6 lbs in the last 3 days, not of fat anyway, but its what I see this morning.

August began 161, ended 159, ranged 163 to 159.
September began 160, ended 158, ranged 160 to 154.

Great job Omega! Rob I wouldn't worry about it - you probably have some post surgery swelling that should subside over the next few days (and if you had opiates you may not be as regular right now).

Rob - it is really normal to have a jump with surgery. Swelling in the wound, changes to regularity, medication which may contain sodium plus uncertain content in hospital food all contributes to this.
I had a jump when I had an operation on my big project and blamed diclofenac for part of it...
I have just looked it up in this thread and I had a jump of over 8 pounds even though I was "nil by mouth" for most of my time in hospital.

Congrats on the new low Margaret! Getting off of a plateau always feels good, and you knew it was coming.

Thanks Margaret and Err, and I looked it up, you are right weight gain after surgery is normal, and not permanent. Its just water and it has a name "postoperative edema". So I will just have to ride this out for a while. At least it seems to have stabilized. I have noticed that my tee shirts are feeling a bit tight, guess I have a little body swelling... It will feel better to be back in the 150s and feel a little looser in the tee shirts, but I won't let this bother me too much.

Wow Margaret, 4 new lows in a row, good for you. Err, your "planned" and even "unplanned" overages don't look like a lot over, were they special occasions?

I am keeping pretty flat, I had expected to drop back to my pre-op weight but it's not happening, not yet anyway. I am fine with my weight at 161, I just am not fine gaining weight, so I will keep on keeping on and watch it. Margaret, how long did you post operative weight gain stick to you?

Rob - I love this thread - it allows me to answer questions like that...
9 days - but I was an exercise fiend back then - out walking the day after I got out of hospital...
I discussed with the doctors and they made me build up by a mile each day back to normal exercise levels... No exercise classes...

16/04/2008 10st6.4 i.e. 146.4 pounds
20/04/2008 11st0.6 i.e. 154.6 pounds
21/04/2008 11st0.6 i.e. 154.6 pounds

24/04/2008 10st8.6 i.e. 148.6 pounds
25/04/2008 10st6.6 i.e. 146.6 pounds

As you can see there were two distinct jumps down...
I used arnica to reduce the swelling immediately. I spoke to a pharmacist to sanity check and she said that if she were in my shoes she would be using arnica while she believed there was swelling...
I realised that the painkillers that the hospital prescribed contained sodium and took myself off them as soon as possible and upped my water consumption...
