Weigh Yourself Everyday (or frequently) Club

Not happy about this, but I am up again. This is confusing to me, I am now up 6 pounds. I know I ate a bit more on my vacations than I had been but it just doesn't seem like that much, and I have been back on track now for a couple of days. Oh well, as I have so often counseled others I will try to just be patient and not panic. I am still below where I started "maintenance" and where my doctor, trainer, and friends here told me I could stop losing weight.

August began 161, ended 159, ranged 163 to 159.
September began 160, ended 158, ranged 160 to 154.

October
1 - 159 lbs
2 - 160 lbs

Err, that 284.2 and 39.0% is a new low isn't it?

I'm sorry about your gain Rob. I know you know it, but I'm absolutely sure that it is temporary - frustrating as it is. I sometimes feel like Skinner's superstitious pigeons when trying to find reasons for unexplained weight changes. (and yes, I had new lows for both weight and BF yesterday).

Date..........Weight....BF%......Calories
October 1.....284.2....39.0%.....1414
October 2.....282.8....39.5%.....TBD

I've been experimenting lately with taking my weight and measurements before and after showering to see what kind of variation I get. The difference is pretty consistent - I lose about 1/2 a pound in the shower (presumably sweating in the steam) but I gain about 0.75-1.5" on my waistline (presumably due to my body's thermal expansion). My neck doesn't seem to expand enough to notice.

For example today I weighed 282.8 before the shower and 282.2 after and measured 51.75" at my navel before shower and 52.5" after. Obviously I didn't gain any body fat while in the shower, but my estimated body fat calculation went from 39.5% before shower to 40.4% afterwards. So it is easy to see how food, gas, & water retention can cause the Navy body fat calculation to swing + or - 3%.

The shower thing is interesting, you must take hotter and longer showers than I. I have weighed into and out of the shower and never seen any real difference. I don't measure consistently, but I do know my measurements can change for reasons I don't understand, not a whole lot though. Congrats on the 282.8, yet another low.

Back into the 150s this morning, but just barely.

I know I just had a 2 week plateau, but I feel kind of guilty losing more weight than expected - especially since the wildfire smoke has returned and I've done very little exercise the past couple of days. It almost seems like the universe is rewarding bad behavior (and punishing good). Fooled by Randomness...

Yep! I have learned that your weight has a lot more to do with what you ate in the last month than the last day. Longer term averages matter even though most of us feel like we should see results, bad or good, right away. In my past when I binged regularly I sometimes observed a weight loss the day after a big binge, if that was real I would not need to be here...

Speaking of which I am back down a little this morning, and got it staying the course. I did not cut my eating at all, as Err says its not some universal power reward, its just variability. I guess I am still learning what to expect in maintenance.

all my weigh-in sweats are in the wash, so my guess is that this is really ½ lb off my std 168...

sort of like the weather here, though... it doesn't seem to change much... :)

Congratulations everyone on the big drops.

Other people have modern scales that weigh in fractions of a pound. I have a General Electric scale I bought in Chicago in 1971. I've weighed myself on it practically every day I've been at home for 49 years and it still works fine, obviously built to last. I have had to adjust the weight readings a couple of times, I guess the springs stretch, and I've changed the battery twice. There was a time when it showed me double digits, (I was underweight), but that was a long, long time ago.

Double new lows this morning!

Thinking about getting a DXA scan to see how far off my navy body fat calculations are. If I do, I'll probably also test my VO2 max to see how far off the fitbit is. There really isn't much practical value to be had from the results, but I'm curious and don't get much excitement these days...
