I've weighed about 9 stone now since July. I always do this, I get to 9 stone and I look okay and I lose my motivation to get down to 8 stone, which is what I would really like. I'm trying to regain my motivation to diet and exercise properly.

Katie - it may be time for you to think through why you want to be 8 stone... I don't think that you have mentioned how tall you are - but I'm guessing about 5ft 3 from something you posted earlier and 9 stone would sit nicely within the normal healthy range. Sometimes people want to aim for a weight which is too low and struggle to get there. BMI charts are a start but are not always the best indication.

The thing is that no-one knows your weight unless you tell them. Its all about how toned you look at the goal weight. Things like measurements and body fat percentage may be a better indication of whether you need to lose more weight.

I am wondering whether it may be the case that you would benefit more from becoming more toned at or near your current weight. Have you gone to a gym and discussed your aspirations with them?

Congrats Rob & Omega

With the lock down, smoke, high temps, doing my taxes, and the weight plateau I let stress eating get the best of me yesterday and had my highest daily calorie intake since March. Granted I still should have been at a calorie deficit, but the weight still crept up.

Hey Err, you have had a long plateau, and at your calorie level I know you are losing fat, hopefully the scales will show it soon. How is your sodium intake now?

It's been high due to jerky, tuna, pickles, pickled jalapenos, etc, but in theory there is only so much water you can retain. If I do a trailing 5 day average from 12 days ago (299.7 lbs & 44.7% BF) vs a current 5 day average (295.6 lbs & 43.4% BF) I've still lost weight (4.1 lbs & 1.3% BF), but not hitting a new low for a week is a bit demoralizing.

err2 - taxes is something that I need to put more effort into - I got a reminder from the accountant yesterday... Now you are monitoring your sodium - are you monitoring your water consumption... Extra water consumption normally helps a sodium gain. Larger people should drink more water than a thin person. I haven't been around the forum too much in recent years - but I know that when I did my big project standard forum advice for people doing a reasonable amount of exercise (as many of us are) is to drink at least 1oz (29.5735ml) of water for every 2lbs of your weight. I know that I used to find it a struggle to get through... I am certainly not currently doing that at the minute myself as it is tough. I also know that my husband has been told (by a nutrition expert) that he should be drinking more water than he is because of his size.

Hi, I hear what you are saying but actually it is not about the weight on the scale so much as that I remember how I looked and felt when I did weigh 8 stone and I liked it. I'm actually a shade less than 5' 3" and a size 12, (in Monsoon or Laura Ashley, probably less in M&S). I have a very curvy shape and I felt better as a size 10. As for the toning, I'm pretty fit, I run at least 5K, 3 times a week and bike frequently. I'm not going back to the gym for a while yet though, too many restrictions. It is all about how I feel. I do not care what anybody else thinks about how I look, except for my partner and he thinks I look great now. So, I'm starting over with renewed motivation, at least for now.

Hey Katie, I understand that feeling of wanting to go back to the time when I was not overweight. For me it was a very long time ago, and I have had to accept that I will never be 20 again. A lot of the time I am mentally comparing myself to my younger self, but it's never to be. A friend even has to remind me from time to time that I am not 20 anymore. I have to remember how much better I feel now than I did a few pounds back, and how much healthier I am.

I don't understand women's sizing very well, but I suspect you look good and curvy right where you are now. Accepting that might let you get into a good maintenance, perhaps with slow weight loss. I do understand a 5K run, very impressive, you must be in good shape now!

Hey Err, for what it is worth when I was losing weight I had plateaus and I also had weeks where I lost 7 pounds, even well into the diet. I ate no differently in the plateau weeks than in the 7 lb loss weeks. Sometimes weight goes in spurts. I hope you have one coming, I think it is due.

Katie - its great that you have renewed motivation. If you can add strength training into your exercise mix - this should benefit your toning more than the cardio that you are clearly doing to good effect. You do not need to go to a gym to do this although it may be worth you checking out what your gym is doing as my gym in Newcastle is really safe, distanced and covid aware - we certainly feel safer in our gym than in the supermarkets.

Rob - Thanks :) Slight wobble up today - not unexpected as had sandwiches for breakfast and lunch yesterday. You continue to maintain beautifully.

Not much of a wobble Margaret, only .25 lbs nothing. As you know, its the new lows that matter. I don't even bother with tenths of pounds I just round to the nearest pound. Just realized I am probably spelling your name wrong every other time I write it. Is it Margret or Margaret? Sorry about that.

Coming down now Err, I hope it means you have broken the log jam.

I have renewed enthusiasm now. I don't really change the amount I eat, I just stop, (or almost stop), drinking alcohol and exercise more. Also apparently I'm a bit low on hemoglobin so I'm eating more green leafy veg., which fortunately I like.

You've been right :) I am Margaret.

LOL Definitely spelt the traditional way. :) I am from a very traditional family :)
My grandmother Margaret had two sisters - Alpha and Omega. Since I was named after my grandmother you could say that I hit lucky with a "normal" name.
I think Omega is rather a cool name, I like it.

Finally heading back in the right direction with a new low this morning:

That sounds good to me! I also cut way back on drinking, over a year now. It has really helped with the diet and I don't miss it (much anyway). My hemoglobin also got a bit low, I have started taking an iron supplement and that seems to have fixed it. Keep up the good work!

Flyer, 16 servings of pretzels in 4 days hardly sounds like a binge, not even a mini one. However I can understand that it could be over your diet plan, good you survived it without gaining. Like your flute.

I am down a little, not my plan, but it won't hurt me.
