I still weigh myself everyday, (and rather sadly plot it on a graph so I can see my progress). For the last month I have hovered around the 9 stone mark because I have started socialising again, a bit and I've stopped losing weight. Truthfully 9 stone is not a bad weight for me but I've decided I would really like to get back to 8 stone which is what I used to weigh, (quite some time ago), now that I've got this far. So, I'm starting a full on diet programme again as of September. So far it is a bit variable, but I'm hoping to improve!

1st 125 lbs
2nd 127 lbs
3rd 125 lbs

I'll have to see if I can work out the online weight loss ticker as well while I'm at it.

I'm not sure when people get allowed a signature on their "about" page - it used to be after they had been here so many days and made so many postings - but I'm not sure how many of either... Those parameters can be changed too and I've been away quite a long time...

Really, I find the same and it depressing isn't it?

Err2 - don't get too bogged down into thinking that the difference in daily weighings is all about calories... It isnt...
When we hop on the scales and see our weight - it is not just a measure of fat. We weigh the food and water in our body, the skin and bones and lean and fat... It is far from simply an image of how much fat is there or been burnt away. When I had a crazy spreadsheet on my big project and was measuring everything and tried to understand and control everything - I ended up noting all sorts of extra things like the food that I ate and their sodium content, my toilet habits, how much water I had drank, step count, exercise, medication (loads of things have sodium in), my period (ladies have an extra consideration as they retain water around then). Sodium makes you retain water so weigh heavier, drinking extra water is in your body short term but helps you release retained water.

Examples of medication which can contain sodium and we've noted water retention temporary gains include diclofenac and naproxen. If you see an increase that you do not understand it can be worth reading the small print of medication you have had other than normal stuff.

I am skeptical that it does. In my weight loss I saw a lot of variation in how much and how fast I lost weight, but I think it had mostly to do with water retention first and maybe mass in my digestive tract second. Day to day calorie variation or level of exercise did not seem to have much effect. Long term it is the calorie reduction that causes weight loss, but much more on a long term average than day to day variations. That's what I observed anyway.

I know it can be hard but part of the benefits I have found from daily weighing is that it has helped me better understand weight and weight loss, and not let the day to day variations get to me. It really is about your long term average.

Great news Margaret!! And your bacon yesterday is a good example of what we are talking about. A few more fat calories on one day won't have any real effect, however the sodium in the bacon will. You will retain more water and appear to gain weight. Its water not fat and long term it doesn't much matter.

Still bouncing here, which is good!

LOL Going back the forums were VERY active and we used to run team challenges where there were maybe six teams each with a number of players involved - then teams got really competitive and used lots of tactics to get the best weight loss points... Drinking plenty of water and flushing out retention was key to that, as was staying "regular" in toilet habits... :rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao:

Yeah, I think sodium is a big contributor to it. I find when I eat something salty, I often wind up craving more food so the days I have higher calories tend to be higher sodium days too:

5 days at a >1000 calorie deficit with essentially no weight/BF change - 3 cheers for sodium! Finally finished that bag of jerky so salt intake should go back to normal tomorrow...

Don't worry while sitting on a sodium gain or any other water retention issue... The fact that we continue to work hard to lose weight means that we are still burning fat - it simply is not being reflected in the scales yet... When the water weight flushes out your body the weight loss will become apparent. Drinking a bit extra water can sometimes speed up the process...

Wise words, that is one of the hazards of recording weight daily, you see all the ups and downs, and loss only shows up in longer term trends, not so much day to day.

I have found that daily weighing really helps me to have a better understanding of what is going on. If I weighed weekly - I might happen to always see reductions. If I picked the wrong days however and saw a gain I could easily get disheartened - and for many people that could cause the end of a project that was going well.

I am lucky as I am older now - but this can actually be a problem for women who are still of an age to have periods. Weeks can go by when water retention can cancel out losses. In a supportive weight loss community - it is important for everyone to understand this - so that people do not give up all hope and stop trying.

I'll link in an analysis I did a long time ago (March 19th 2008) chatting to bikinibound...

Now at an 11 day plateau with an average calorie consumption of 1419. I'll give the new higher calorie target another 3 days before dropping back down...
