Weight-Loss The Brat Pack June Weight Loss Challenge

Weight-Loss
I wish drinking werent so evil. I drank this weekend too.. I usually drink friday and saturday but this weekend I only drank saturday. After logging my mickey of smirnoff vodka into the fitday report I never want to drink again. 850 CALORIES FOR 13 OZ!!!! KILL ME NOW!!!

I dont even want to know what my Pan Galactics are. (Malibu Rum, Melon, Yeager, pinnapple, 7-up)

I gotta do this...

I am just plain ole succulent...there is nothing out there as tasty as I am...

Hehe

Well crud. I'm in serious temptationville. I hope I can handle this. No, I KNOW I can handle this.

I just harvest honey from the hives. Honey is a MAJOR weakness of mine. And this stuff is good! But I'll get over it and use it sparingly. Not going to have 2 honey and peanut butter sandwiches for lunch...

And on top of that, we finally got the brewing projects up and running again. In 6 weeks, I will have 5 gallons of beer sitting around my house. Uh....help....please....

I can do this though. Moderation, moderation, moderation. My fiance is all on board with the weight loss thing so he is going to keep me in check. Stopped me at one glass of wine at dinner last night. Shocked the pants off of me because usually he gives in to anything I ask him. He put his foot down and I listened (well, after whining for a minute)...and thanked him profusely this morning at my weigh in. He helpfully added that he'll be happy to drink ALL the beer if I have a hard time resisting.

Hehehe, alcohol is the one area where I don't worry! As long as it's a maximum of once per weekend (ok, all weekend on a good one!) .... actually whatever, it doesn't matter...

Coz it's a paaaarrrty!

Go for the honey and skip the peanut butter and bread. Like I told these guys last month, my honey has no calories. It's pure unadulterated heaven.

What kind of beer did you brew? Do you make mead?

This time around it's Belgian Ale. We've tried the "kits" before in the past but have always ended up with an undrinkable brown liquid. We finally gave in and got the real deal - glass carboys, actual grains, big kettle, etc. It was a lot of fun...well, for the part I was awake for! I'm an early bird and the fiance is a night owl, so the brewing started at 10 PM. I didn't last through the whole thing. :p

This fall when I get a big honey harvest I hope to make mead. We have all the equipment now, just need the honey and the yeast! But it takes a whole year to age. I can't imagine that I'll have the patience for that...

Okay that is where I am for this month so far. Not too bad, happier that I can get to the gym everyday and not feel like I am going to die. I have not measured to tell for sure, but my clothes are all fitting better and have some that are getting a bit baggy.
Best of luck to everyone for next week.

I've been making mead for about 15 years now. I've had some batches take way longer then a year. My longest was 2 1/2 years, but that one turned out to be the best. Sanitizing is much more important with mead then beer because it's in the carboy for so long. Also, you don't want to invest all that time to have to throw out the batch.

It's so much fun and so worth it. The beer you make is better then most anything that is sold. The reason that commercial beer makers don't make beer that good is that they have to have a consistent taste to their beer. the consumer needs the same taste this year or next, or they won't buy it. For the home brewer, every batch is a little different, and therefor good.

give it a try. It's fun to get into it with friends. Everyone starts brewing and you taste each different recipe and learn more from the group.

2 1/2 years?!?! Geez, I can hardly wait the six weeks for the beer! But once I get things going, I'll always have a ready batch, so the waiting might not be so long.

We are going to try to grow hops too. I don't know what varieties we can grow here, but it'll be fun to make our own recipes with hops we've grown. I would try to grow the barley, but I think that's getting a bit ahead of myself. Cause then you gotta malt it and kiln it and all sorts of other complicated stuff. I'll wait on that for awhile. But the hops should be easy. Plus we need some vines on the fence!

We have some hops going, and it's a good thing with the price of hops these days. getting them going sooner rather then later. They take a couple years to really establish.

Alright, I'll put hops on the short list of things to do! Didn't know that took very long to get going. Thanks.
