Will I be slower in speed? Help

hey guys,
I have lifted for a close 8 months or something like that. I started at 156 lbs and now I am at 176 ish.
My lifts have increased:

deadlift: 190 to 355
squat: 200 1/4 to 300 lower than parallel
bench press: 75 ish to 160 lbs

and others, but those are the main ones. My main goal was to put on some muscle and i have done that because I feel bigger, look bigger and am bigger. I was always a fast runner, and I didnt want to lose that.

I am not perfectly conditioned yet because I was bulking. Im going to start Jan 3, that will give me around 7 weeks untile Lacrosse season. I really dont care about looking good, I want to perform well on the field

So my question is adding all that weight but increasing my lifting, am I going to experience slower running then before, better, or same?

I got heaps slower after gaining weight. When i was playing soccer competitively I did 100m in 11.2 now its up to the mid 12's I did athletics for quite a while.

I think you could benifit with doing some power work and plymetrics in your training.

If you get stronger without adding weight, the strenght should help speed. Strenght doesn't really make you slower until you have trained for a number of years and neglected speed work. So you could cut some fat and get conditioned to run again, and I think you'd be better than before. If you want your weight training to help your running, why not start doing some explosive pulls? Like snatch/clean grip high pulls, etc?

i do cleans and deadlifts. My clean has jumped from like 100 to 175 ish. I am progressing well on them
So should that help me?

What running are you doing, sprint or long distance? Putting on some lean weight would help your power for sprinting.

anything explosive will help your speed.
So will prbably any strenght training. Since you need to be strong to be powerful.

I do lacrosse. Which has no long distance running. It consists of 40 to 60 yard sprints full out, with small burst of 10 yards when offense is set up, and this all happens while people are hitting you.
So I beleive I need sprinting power and speed with heart endurance so i need to run both but more sprinting.

I dont know why but last week doing cleans I guess I kind of hurt my hand in some way. IT hurts when I get in the finished position of the Clean. So I dont know whats wrong but I havent done cleans in 3 sessions, hoping it heals.

I know this may be a bit odd but if you want to become a better sprinter why don't you start sprinting?

There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to incorporate lifting and sprinting into your routine (just increase your food intake to account for the extra calories burned . As already stated if you are adding mass and stopped sprinting chances are you are going to be slower.

ya i know that. I will start running in January and will have 2 mos to get in shape.
As for pulls, im going to rest for a while cause my hands are hurt for some reason

If your squat to weight ratio gets better then you have gotten faster.

Example

A.) 200 Pounds guy squatting 400 pounds. Squat/Weight=2

B.) 155 Pound guy squatting 350 Pounds. Squat/Weight= 2.258

You could probably assume Guy B is faster.

I think if your squat has gotten up that much as you have said then you should have gotten faster. 300/176 is 1.7 whereas before you were 200/150=1.3 and this doesn't take into account that you squatted 300 pounds lower.

JSB - the reason i wait is that I am not ENTIRELY out of shape. It takes me about 7-8 weeks of 3 times a week running to get to appropriate condition for lacrosse. Also lacrosse is a non stop game so practices, games, and everything lacrosse related is conditioning. So thats why there is no reason for me to start now because its now 4 mos away. Too long.

Karky - my hands are precious to me, I dont want them to be hurt. I am going to do cleans starting next wednesday again. Its just precaution because my mom just had carpal tunnel surgery and I dont want that.

JMAN - Your right. I have definitly increased my squat. I remember this year at like January or february ish, I would load the bar up with like 215 and had a INCREASINGLY hard time doing that. Now I start at 225 on all my sets and go down as low as possible for me, or at least try to do so. So I have gotten a lot stronger, its just that my weight has also increased alot.

but PULLS aren't hard on the hands. you don't catch the bar. Did you read the article and watch the vids?

Karky - Yes I did read that at least 2 times and watch the vids. I know what your saying. I cant lift untile either tuesday and wednesday, and I was going to do cleans that day or deadlift. I might incorporate pulls later on, but I know what your saying and your right. Thanks for the help

Alright. So i have been thinking.
I am going to N.J on monday for 4 weeks, and joining a GOLDS GYM. As far as I know, this is a good gym with all the power lifting areas and squat racks, so i can get the job done.

I was thinking, i have been doing hypertrophy and strength at the same time for 6 mos or so. It was 3 times a week, of hypertropy 2 : 1 strength days.

Now I think I have plenty of muscle, but lacking in strength.

So would it be ok if I were to do 5x5 only on all 3 days, BUT
do different excercises on all the days? This way my body doesnt adapt

Thats almost exactly what I am doing right now with the 5x5 on all 3 days but different exercises. Its working well.
