Weight-Loss The Amazing Race Challenge Omega-3 Team

Weight-Loss
Finally - I can buy something cheaper than you can. It might not be houses, petrol, clothes, or even most food items - but at last there is something that is less expensive here. I bet everyone is jealous.

I have been out walking again today so I think that everyone can take it that my half of the team exercise requirement is done.

Your cabbage was cheaper, too, so stop complaining...lol. :D

Congrats on getting all your exercise in. I didn't make it to the gym, but will make up for it tomorrow.

Week 5—Auckland to Seoul 24hrs 15min. That's 8hrs5 min divided 3 ways.

We’re off to the Land of the Morning Calm (or as I like to call it, the Land of the Morning Traffic Jam, or Land of a man in a little blue truck driving around your apt parking lot at 6am shouting through a megaphone to come out and buy a huge bag of onions for W10,000). :p

This week is a Detour, and here are your options: 1. Eat a live octopus (a Korean delicacy) or 2. Eat every meal with chopsticks. I guarantee you’ll eat less and much more slowly than normal. :)

FYI--if you choose to eat the octopus, beware of the tentacles, as they tend to stick to the roof of your mouth. It's best to swallow them whole like you would an oyster, and then quickly wash down with some water.

The exercise for this is no problem from me - 12 hours and 8 minutes should be done by Tuesday.

Just to confirm - this is a detour and we all have to do it?

There is no way that I can eat an octopus.

When you say - every meal - is that every piece of food or just proper meals. I am trying to work out how I could eat pieces of fruit. I am thinking that eating bananas, apples and pears could get really tricky - not to mention clementines and grapes. I eat an awful lot of my stuff with my fingers. I suppose the trick would be to cut up everything first and then just use the chopsticks to jam them into your mouth - or is there a special deal whereby you can just use your fingers with some things - simply replacing a knife and fork with chopsticks.

My milky weetabix cereal should be fun!

I suppose that one benefit of a repetitive diet is that once I work out how to eat something - I can just apply the same formula every day.

I used chopsticks for my main meal on Saturday lunchtime. I managed ok - except I must admit that I used the fork that was provided to get that last bite off my plate. No matter how I scooped things together first there was still a little left that did not come up with chopsticks. As I have mentioned before - I am not good at leaving food on my plate - especially if I am enjoying it. I suppose I will be leaving a mouthful behind after every meal next week.

Thank goodness that the videos are an option because I will have to do that - whatever it is like. I dont drink tea. I could manage chopsticks but I couldnt manage drinking tea. I think that I could manage a live octopus better than I could drink tea.

I think that I could manage a live octopus better than I could drink tea.

That is a rarity! An English person who doesn't drink tea! :D I was even planning to ask you if you could recommend me a brand of green tea here in the UK, I am not sure which tea is considered green.

I'm with Wulsk on this one. I'm surprised they even let you live in the UK being a tea-hater...lmao Are you sure none of your ancestors were involved with the Boston Tea Party? I don't know how you can dislike tea..it's so good. My H says if he had to give up either beer or tea for the rest of his life, he could give up beer (which he loves), but NOT tea..lmao.

Wulsk--you can tell if it's green tea b/c it will say green tea on the box...:D I could list off a ton of American brands, but I don't know if they have them in the UK..lol. I believe Twinings makes a green tea. You can also go into any Asian grocer and find several different kinds of it--choose whichever you like. There are also some flavored green teas--for example, I have some peach green tea--and that is acceptable. it just has to come in the form of a teabag or tea leaves--can't be pre-made like a bottled green tea. :)

I havent drank tea since I was a toddler. Basically it took me that long to string a long enough sentence together in order to forcefully say to my mother - "you may love tea and happily drink it non-stop - but the reason that I keep throwing it around the room or leaving it is because I absolutely detest it. It is probably the reason that I am underweight - you have noticed that I keep being sick. It is totally the most nauseous thing on this planet". She finally got the message and stopped giving it to me.

I even find the smell of it totally repulsive. My hubby never drinks tea in the house because he knows that I dislike it so much. He also doesnt want me to stop kissing him.

It is a good thing that you gave an alternative because I would have dropped points if it was drink tea or drop points.

Wow! I found something you hate even more than counting calories. :biggrinjester: I'll remember that for the next challenge in case you're not on my team. :biggrinjester:

Have you tried green tea, though? Because the taste is very different from the black tea that most Brits drink. You can also drink it cold for a different twist--and without milk, of course.

A Brit hating tea is as unpatriotic as an American hating apple pie. :biggrinjester:

Well, I've got 5hrs1min of exercise in. That leaves 4hrs 2min for Bella to do. I can get in another 30min or so tomorrow if need be. :)

I am not touching any kind of tea. The idea is just horrible.

I actually like apple pie though - does that help? Maybe I am just of confused origin.

Well done on the exercise and the new low.

Way to go Kimberly on your new low!!!
How AWESOME!!!!
I think I may get a smidge lower but then again I did have all that pizza! LOL

I haven't decided yet on which one I am "going" to do. I can easily do the tea unlike Margaret! LOL :biggrinjester:
Though we are on such a tight budget this week with Trevor's B-day that I am not sure if I can get the tea. I know sounds bad but it isn't. Just that every spare penny is going towards paying of our one and only credit card.
If I decide to do the Tae Kwon Do I think that I will see if Sweetiepea will help me out with it. As she did martial arts for several years. And would have a significant step up in the process of it.

Thanks Bella!

I will do the green tea just b/c I'll find it a lot easier than the TKD.

OK, I want you two to be impressed with my determination for us not to be eliminated...lmao. Tonight we drove the 2.5hrs to Ann Arbor, and when we were about halfway there, I realized that despite going to 2 supermarkets today, I forgot to buy the one kiwi that I had left to eat. :cuss: So there I was at 10:30pm walking in the rain to the supermarket to buy one friggin' kiwi... I also bought a 6-pack of beer for H. So the 2 older ladies at the checkout thought it was rather amusing that I was purchasing those 2 items. As I was walking up there, I was thinking that they would think that. :D

Anyway, by the time I got back to the hotel room, I was fairly wet from the rain. However, the final kiwi has been eaten. Detour complete. :hurray:

My calories are under 1600 for the day, so I hope to have a good number on the scale tomorrow. Yes, Scalentino has traveled with me--the first time I've ever taken him anywhere..lol

M--I hope you're not mad at me for teasing you about the tea. :angelsad2:

May we all have good luck at the scale tomorrow!!!!!!! :smash:

Well done for getting that last kiwi fruit. I nearly forgot to pack the scales the last time we went to Newcastle so I know how easy it is to forget to pack that one crucial item. Things that in retrospect are obvious are quite easily forgotten. When we were very young hubby once forgot to put in the car the bag with the clothes in for a trip to Newcastle - I had packed it and left it on our bed. The house was tiny - one bedroom and one living room. It never occurred to me that he wouldnt look for it. It never occurred to him to look for it.

I dont mind being teased about me hating tea so much. It is one of comparitively few things that I just would not do - so it is lucky that there is an alternative. It never occurred to me that it might ever be set in a challenge or I would have mentioned it.

I have listed everything that I have drank or eaten in my diary since September. If I had been drinking tea you would have seen it listed. I dont drink coffee either (since pre-school age) so if we go to Brazil next week and you want people to drink coffee - make it something for only one person to do, try to think of an alternative or come to terms with elimination.

It sounds like you two will have a much easier time this new challenge week than I will. I wish that I could drink one cup of something that I quite like each day instead of watching and stepping through with all those videos. I must admit - I have only watched the first one as I didnt want to waste much time last week on it as I will be probably sick enough of them this week.

I have tons of kiwi fruit in the fridge. I have eaten one a day - but surprisingly not more than one. I had bought a second punnet of 8 just in case when I remembered how much I like them. Then I was in Tescos yesterday (Thursday) and they had a special bogof offer for just until this weekend. I couldnt resist buying one and getting one free so I got another 2 punnets (i.e. 16 kiwi fruit in total for £1.18) - so I now have 25 kiwi fruit in the house.

I hope that you both have good luck at the scales today (Friday). I had a low weight Thursday - but will consider carefully whether I think it best to use my Thursday weight or my Friday weight (whatever it may be - I havent got on the scales yet).

Coffee drinking is not in the cards for this challenge--but I'm not ruling out deer's blood....lmao. I cannot think of a single beverage I couldn't stomach to save us from elimination...lol--save deer's blood, but that isn't really a beverage. :D

I studied TKD for a few months, so I believe I could manage the vids if I had to, but it will take a fair bit of your time to complete. Have fun. :D

For the videos - I will try to get a bit done each day (maybe split over the 5 weekdays so hubby is not watching and laughing at me). It should be ok.
