Weight-Loss The Amazing Race Challenge Determined Divas Team

Weight-Loss
Thanks, yes I'm doing much better, my eye almost looks normal again. I have been getting my exercise in and am a pound down from last weigh in.

Ugh stairs, I don't like stairs but it is an awesome workout. The temple should be a cool experience, let me know how it was.

First time in a long time I've gained. Dang it. Feels crappy, but I just have to try harder this coming week.

TOM is almost here so maybe that has something to do with it.

Week 6—Seoul to Johannesburg 18hrs 35min. 6hrs12min split 3 ways

Roadblock: make and eat Nelson Mandela’s favorite South African dish—umngqusho. Don’t even try to pronounce it. The recipe is below. Only one person per team needs to do this--and remember--if you've already done 2 roadblocks, someone else from your team must do it.

Umngqusho—South African dish—Nelson Mandela’s fav
What you need
• 2 cups dry samp (broken hominy)
• 1 cup dry cowpeas (black-eyed peas) or any similar beans

What you do
• Combine samp and cowpeas in a large enamel pot or glass bowl. Add cold water sufficient to cover. Cover, and let stand overnight. Drain and rinse before cooking.
• In a large pot. Cover the soaked samp and cowpeas mixture with cold water. Bring to a boil. Let boil for ten minutes. Reduce heat. Add sugar beans, margarine, onions, potatoes, chillis and lemons. Simmer on low heat for one to two hours, until all is tender and the water is mostly absorbed. Add additional water during cooking if needed.
• Season with salt. Serve hot.

You must eat the whole thing by yourself. With the ingrediants other than the black-eyed peas and hominy, you can add as much or as few as you like--for example, if you don't care for spicy food, just add a tiny bit of chilis. Any questions? Just ask.

I have no idea where to find these ingrediants lol

I found hominy easily enough in the canned veggie aisle--it can be any kind of hominy--doesn't have to be broken. The black-eyed peas or beans can be found with other beans/legumes or if your store has a Southern food section. Sugar beans are lima beans--you can get those in the frozen or canned variety--maybe even dried.

Hi ladies!

Sweatpea from ABS of Steel is going to be your 3rd person. I think she has or is doing the roadblock as well. So this week you can add her exercise to yours, and now your team is back to normal as far as exercise goes. So you need to get in 18hrs 35min as a team of 3.

Hello new team!

I think I'm supposed to keep my stats on the other thread? And then just add my exercise to this team thread. That's what I understand - of course I'd still be a Determined Diva. :)

I haven't done the roadblock though. I wasn't planning on doing it, but I could if nobody else has. I have done a roadblock on my other team. Just let me know.

Well off to exercise...

Have gotten in 185 min. this week so far. Do you have a way of keeping track of it for the team total?

You can copy and paste your other post if you want, I just thought it would be easier for me to find it on the first page of the ABS thread instead of having to hunt for it here..lol. I'm all about making MY life easier...very selfish, I know. :D

I think Tarrish is already planning to do the roadblock, so no worries.

Umngqusho really wasn't my cup of tea, or beans rather, but I made and ate it anyway. Welcome to the team Sweatpea! If you did the roadblock too that's ok. We can share our ideas on Umngqusho together! haha If you didn't eat it yet I totally have it so no worries.

So far I've done four hours and ten minutes of exercise. I'm planning on getting my regular hour of spin class in tomorrow, and we'll see what else I can manage. I want to make Thursday a jam packed exercise day so I'm sure I'll have more than an hour to log.

Rock on ladies!

PS: We usually do this Sweatpea. I've done four hours and ten minutes so I'll show ya an example.

Ok. Yesterday I did my spin class for an hour, did free weights for 15 minutes, and did another set of cardio from elip to tread for another sixty minutes.

This morning I went on a 30 minute walk, and did a Walk at Home DVD (25 min). I'm tired but it feels good.
