Sparrows Experiment

hehe

You're ALL weird in my book.

FF-My 'tude is fine! Stingo thinks I'm PMS and Fire is looking for trouble.

:)

Today I decided to join up with tri class. I haven't actually attended a tri class for a very very long time since I've been doing totally my own thing this summer. They were doing a cardio circuit in the basketball gym and then core and spin. Thought that sounded nice.

The cardio circuit was made up of 15 stations each 90 sec long and we did it twice. It included suicides, burpies, box jumps, bosu/agility stuff, running, stairs, jump rope..and more. It was more like a boot campl It was TOUGH. I'm not kidding, I felt like a total newbie sweating and all red-faced. It was 100% anaerobic stuff and my heart rate was maxed at 170 most of the time. I haven't done a lot of anaerobic lately I guess!

Core was fairly easy, I feel like I've really developed this part of my routine well and its shown in my 3 disciplines. I still hate side planks. I guess my obliques aren't as strong as everything else

Spin for 30 min but it was intense intervals. Our instructor singled me out-which I really really hate. It was actually one reason I stopped going to tri class. I feel put on the spot all the time and hailed as some superhuman. Anyway, she singled me out for my cadence with high resistance. Shes trying to get everyone to pedal at a faster cadence on hills which I do naturally. Someone wise guy said, "well maybe Katie doesn't have much resistance on there and thats why she can go faster" so she made me get off my bike! ha. She got on and could hardly pedal. lol. It was embarrassing. She assured them I had plenty on.

So that was that. After tri class which goes 1.5 hours I did 30 min of weights. I hit 2 exercises per major muscle group. Felt great.

Trying to eat better today. I've sort of let that part of things slide lately.

What was your cadence just before you got off the bike?

As for my earlier greeting I could've sworn there was a post in your log where you said you were cranky or some such thing.

Edited to add: Post 2588. :)

Stingo-you're right. I did say that. Just having fun with ya.

Fire....Riggghhhhhhttt

:D

My cadence was about 90-its always about 90 and I just adjust resistance around it. Its my "sweet spot" :)

It'll take a while to get a higher cadence; most rookies want to mash the pedals which is less efficient, more tiring, and more likely to lead to physical ailments. I stay at about 85 at most times, but slow down as I get fatigued.

The F man lurks and learns.

I too maintain a very steady 80-90 rpm. (I only say 80-90 because like g8r said, it depends on freshness. It's actually 90-80, as I become fatigued.) 'Course, that's not because I know anything, just because it's always felt right, like in the thing sparrow said.

I don't slow down on hills, either. Had a bit of a read about it earlier, and some people say you should, but I'm fairly sure that contradicts the applied physics. I keep it the same, but really give 'er, such that the same speed is now costing me a great deal more effort, due to the massively increased resistance.

Doing what the sparrow does make me cool, right guise?

Took today off. Not feeling well and I'm very sore. Having a fat day too. ha-go figure! I know, I'm such a girl. ah well.

Gotta be prime for Sunday.

Still got very little sleep last night but I feel much better today than yesterday. I only went to spin today and didn't push it as much as I normally do. I'm still sore and I need to "keep the horses in the stable" so to speak. The part the hurts the most on me are the arches of my feet. Never hurt there before. It felt good to leave the gym after just an hour :)

What half are you running?

re: arches.... frozen cans of baked beans rolled under your feet work wonders for removing inflamation. Keep a close eye on this since it's a precursor to more serious issues.

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm running Cowtown

if its a consistent pain it could be the onset of plantar faciitis. ice or the baked beans idea from tsilcyc will help :)

In a class on Tuesday (One I'm still very sore from) we did a LOT of stability stuff on bosu. My ankles are equally as pained and I suspect the arches got a great workout just trying to stabilize. They feel bruised. My husband massaged them out last night and I did ice and while last night they felt great after that, this morning they are so painful again. Just getting out of bed to walk was an ordeal. I haven't run since SATURDAY-except the little bit in that class (maybe total of a mile or something) so I'm going to go jog this morning to see how it goes.
