Senior needs help with my work outs.

Fabulous day at Tree Top Trekking yesterday. We arrived about 9:30 am, got geared up with harnesses, had a half hour safety course & then spent next 3 hours working through 6 progressively more difficult & higher climbing, cable bridge, & zip line courses, with a guide/instructor.
Needless to say every muscle aches this morning. Would definitely go again soon.

Keeping our grandchildren busy was a bit of a challenge rain showers today, so we took them to an indoor climbing 🧗‍♀️ gym.
I’m not one to sit & watch so I joined in.
Definitely need to work on upper body strength!

How lucky your grandkids are to have such fit & active grandparents :)
The wildfires look horrendous, Mike. Our niece lives in BC & I have been trying not to worry too much. Poor planet.

Yellowknife NWT, pop 20k is being completely evaluated due to encroaching wildfires. A number of communities inBC are on alert. Weather is not cooperating apparently. A cold front is expected to move in which will increase winds along with risk of lightning. Not a good situation at all.
We are lucky in Ontario, we’ve has a number a descent rains to reduce fire hazards. We’ve been watching the news on Lahaina, Maui. We were there in 2019, it was such a beautiful town & now it’s been devastated.

We went to a high-rope course last week and I was sore for days :D My dad didn't want to join us though: he tried once and wasn't a fan.

Fires are terrifying and I'm so sorry for everyone who's having their lives impacted by them.

They reported on the news last weekend there are 1060 fires burning with 600 considered out of control in 🇨🇦 (Canada)

We delivered our grand children back to their parents yesterday so we’re back to our morning walks, 3km with Bella & then another 3km at a brisk pace.

Bella & I went for 4km walk this morning while my wife went on a 6k run.
We mowed the lawn (1acre) this morning & are now enjoying a protein shake on our deck/patio. I did check my weight (206 lbs) just 1lb (0.45kg) from target!
Getting anxious to hit that 205 lbs mark. I still have my 1976 Ontario Judo Team track suit hanging in a closet. I said I would try it back on when/ if I got back down to my competition weight. That day is coming!

Wow! I wish I had kept some of my clothes from my early 20s (the '70s) as they would be seriously aspirational clothes for me. Do you still practise any judo at all, Mike? You have led a very active life by the sounds of it.

I tore a knee cartilage in the 76 nationals (bronze metal) & it was never the same. I continued to compete until the early 90’s. The knee continued to take a beating & I had a total knee replacement in Feb 2002. That ended my judo career. I was still able to continue to dive & teach scuba diving. I retired from teaching diving in 2016. I continue to dive, even after my hip replacement surgery in 2020.

Active indeed! Looks to me like any kind of martial arts is terrible for the knees if you do it long or intensely enough. Swimming and scuba diving sounds a lot easier on the joints!

Just getting in/out of the water, 20kg scuba tank on your back & another 10kg weight belt are the tuff parts, it’s good to have strong legs & core.
Once in you’re weightless of course.
To be honest I never got injured at the dojo (judo club). Your comment on intensity is correct. It was always in competition. Taking a fall , you don’t get hurt, but you do loose the match , & go home defeated.

Yesterday was another lethargic day driving out to see my mom & back home again, even with walking Bella 3km before leaving home. I was feeling I needed some motivation to get my weight down to that 205 lbs mark, so I dug out my team track suit to make sure it wasn’t full of moth holes or falling apart. It’s still wear-able!

Today’s the day!
I hit my target to be under 205 lbs, which is the weight division I wanted to make in the 1975 Ontario Judo Championships. I weighed in at 215 lbs then & competed in over 205 weight division. I took silver metal & qualified for the Ontario team to the 1976 Canadian Judo Championships.
I placed 3rd (bronze) just missing the 76 Canadian Olympic Team. I also tore a knee cartilage in that competition, which degraded over the years leading to a total knee replacement. I packed the team tracksuit away, & pledged to try it on again if I made that target weight.
Today is that Dayi
