I row most days, my rower is in the lounge room near the aircon lol. I use a Concept2 with the PM5 monitor which syncs with my phone and HR monitor strap. there is a WOD set each day which gets sent from my phone to the rower. yesterday it was 12 intervals, the day before the intervals were calorie based with each interval being a higher calorie target than the interval before.

Sometimes I will also row for time or distance in addition to the WOD

The concept2 website is great for breaking down and analyzing the data. There are also additional competitions races and challenges. A lot of actual rowing athletes use the system for training.

If I had the rower in the gym with the rest of my fitness stuff it would not get used as much and I would have no real time way to sync my data having no phone reception or WiFi in the shed.

I think rowing is meant to be one of the best overall exercises for weight loss & fitness. That makes sense to have it near your aircon.

in terms of calories a slow row while watching something on TV is around 350 calories per hour, a moderate pace like the intervals last night is usually around 450-500 calories per hour, and if I push it hard It will be 700-800 plus, however over 1000 is not uncommon for short bursts.

one of the best things about a rower is it is low impact and uses a lot of muscles to row correctly.

Depending on how I feel later I might benchmark some of my distances and have them ranked now I am in a different age category from last time I benchmarked my speeds. (There is a world ranking systems and most people on the verified lists are members of rowing clubs)

Spent time today recording another couple of videos. the first being a standard lying triceps extension, the second in the version which isolates the medial and lateral heads during the movement. The difference is not terribly important for general fitness but makes a difference if you are looking for the aesthetics of the classic triceps horseshoe definition or for athletic performance.

We finally had a peahen hatch some of her own eggs and so far is a very good mother to the 3 babies running around the pen.

I am feeling seriously bad right now, the police chopper just landed on the other side of our dams, some kids have been hit a couple of driveways away from our place after getting off the bus.

it gets worse, my son has offered to take the day off work to spend time with the victims best mate tomorrow. I can't help tonight road is still closed and Rs mum is still 20 minutes away from home

I am coaching this morning after dropping little miss at school, then I will be home most of the day, R may come over to work out some of his feeling on the weights as he is not going to school today and his mum will work from home, still no updates on Ls condition. It is still sinking in that I had this kid training with R in my gym a couple of weeks ago during the school holidays.

Have not felt up to posting in diaries today, R is due soon to do a session in the gym, L is in an induced coma with severe head injuries. On top of everything this heatwave and massive humidity levels has been super draining all week.

coaching went well last night, R was still in a bit of shock but we concentrated on doing some max effort work in partnership with my son and he now has a new deadlift PB for the hard work.

It's really good that R had the chance to release some of the stress & turn it into a positive. Well done, R.

It is hard enough as an adult to try and process all this but for a 14 year old boy this is super hard.

Went to a neighbourhood meeting this arvo on short notice with the media, one parent broke down completely because her son was also good friends with L. as far as council and main roads are concerned the road is safe because there has not been enough accidents. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

That's... Refusing to lock the stable doors because not that many horses bolt? Even if it were true it's an insanely tone deaf thing to say under the circumstances. You say: we're looking into what happened exactly and if the road conditions played a role (rather than it being human error or something) we will definitely take steps to improve security. That's just politician speak 101.
