Making training fun is always a bonus!
I am fascinated by the peafowl information: now I need to ask Mom about what Granddad did with them: he had an ancient-looking little incubator sitting on the kitchen counter for as long as I can remember and it was always running but he had about a dozen different species of birds and I never really asked what he used it for.

they are a frustrating hobby lol, the one consistent thing I have found is everybody seems to have a differing experience trying to breed them. Then to add to it all, there was a lot of inbreeding for the special colours which has made deformities and hatch problems more common.

I have spent much of the day outside using the brush-cutter on the undergrowth that is growing rampant and need to be cut back before fire season hits.

2 Peachicks went into the brooder box this morning along with 2 spangled hamburg chicks for companionship and to help teach the chicks to eat and drink (pea chicks are normally taught by mum but chicken chicks eat and drink without lessons)

13 eggs then went into the incubator, and 1 one weeks time we will add a couple of fertile chicken eggs so they hatch at the same time as the peas.

Snack this morning is a punnet of Blackberries.

Good luck with the breeding program. Tru! We have been doing lots of brush-cutting too as, with all of the rain the place is a jungle.

This is what the chicken chicks should look like when they mature, they are supposed to be show quality birds unlike the mixed bunch that makes up most of our chicken flock lol

They look magnificent!
they are supposed to be very predator savvy and the roosters are very protective of their hens who are prolific layers but don't generally go broody they are also good flyers. I was not looking to be picky when looking for day olds to go in with the peas but quite happy with getting a couple of these as they are a little rare, cost me $15 each but a POL hen for this breed normally sells for $100 or so for backyard quality, young unsexed chicks are always much cheeper but being out of town the chance of roosters doesn't bother us.

Predator savvy sounds like an excellent choice for your area but I hope the roosters will learn to recognize and trust your and your family (and not your nasty neighbor). They look gorgeous!

Then to add to it all, there was a lot of inbreeding for the special colours which has made deformities and hatch problems more common.
Humans do like messing things up...

getting more eggs than I can use at the moment, could do with some interesting recipes that use lots of eggs.

I can't think of any eggy recipes that don't also contain heaps of carbs. Well, except for omelets. If you find any I'd love to hear!

I may look at donating some to the lady that cooks meals for the homeless, no point in having them go to waste

edit: Distinction for my scientific research methods subject, I guess I do understand statistics and designing studies lol

super heavy period this month, feeling like crap and don't want to go out but I have to pull myself together and get ready to take little miss to the park before it gets too hot outside.

I am super on edge tonight not a good evening but could have been a lot worse at least hubby is ok but I still need to keep him under observation for a few more hours.

D had an accident in the car on the way home from work, he ran off the road and ended up in a paddock, he is ok, had to watch him for concussion symptoms after they released him from the hospital, he is still a bit shaken today. I have not seen the car but D hopes it can be fixed rather than written off, did not hit anything solid but ripped the front bumper off. Have to go into town later to get a hire car for him and to drop of the insurance claim number to the farmer who owns the paddock fence so it's repair can be covered. All this on top of him having what looks to be having claudication problems in his leg he had surgery on almost 10 years ago, he had scans yesterday and waiting for Dr to let him know results.

Oof, glad he's ok but what a fright that would have been. I assume the claudication is bloodflow-related, not spinal? Either way I hope that turns out ok as well.
