Weight-Loss Run!

Weight-Loss
Nice run Chef!

The hip still feels good and I managed the stretching routine, but my dinner hasn't agreed with me so no run tonight. I let it get late anyway. Running at midnight isn't a great idea even without stomach troubles.

Good Run Chef!

Today I went for a long run, at a low heart rate. Getting the metabolism working on burning fat:D
18 km
1:56:10
Avg HR: 125

Felt so good, for the first time since I started running I truly didn't care about pace, about going fast.
Appropriately, the trainer who made my marathon schedule has a saying, which roughly translates to: "It's only usefull to go fast in training once you've mastered the art of running slow"
I think I've mastered it today

And this was the 100th time I went for a run, yay

Wow Guideon! That's 3k shy of a half marathon. That's a faster pace than I can maintain for any distance. You're over 5.7 mph vs. today's 4.6 mph for 30 mins. That's the fastest half hour I've acheieved. Take into consideration that you did that in a low aerobic state and I did mine at almost 90% of max. Likely at the threshold of anerobic exercise.

I don't like you anymore Guideon. Get out of my thread. :biggrinjester: Seriously though you are in a level of fitness that is way beyond me, but that's fine. I love the idea that I wil look back on this period of my running career and not be able to fathom how I could be so slow and out of shape. I'm super glad you are here because you really give me perspective and motivation.

It's easy to be happy in knowing that I was not physically able to run at any speed for any period of time just a few months ago and now I can really make progress, but it's humbling and exciting to think how much more I have left to acheive.

I'll never be the fastest, but today I was the fastest I've ever been.

Run
30 mins
2.3 miles (first time since before the hip bothered me)
161 bpm avg HR
I just picked a set and number of laps between two points that I hadn't measured. I just took off and didn't look at the hr, distance, or time until I finished. The 5 laps between my mailbox and the closest neighbor's was just over 2.2 miles, but I kept running until I hit the 30 min mark.

I ran 2.3 miles twice before. Once was with an app that was a bit buggy and again with someone else watching their GPS. Regardless whether or not those were valid 2.3 mile half hours I can say that this is the hardest I've run for a half hour.

Yesterday wasn't a neccesary day off in terms of pain, fatigue, or injury. So I felt good today before stretching and even better after so I pushed myself a bit. It was sunny and the warmest day yet which made it harder. Adjusting to summer heat and staying hydrated are going to be real challenges.

Exactly, I could have never thought that I would be this guy who was running these distances. I was slow, fat and just thinking about running made me break out in a sweat.
Thinking about that now fills me with a feeling with accomplishment, but what makes me even feel better is hearing that I can motivate others, and that motivates me.

It's not about being the fastest, because there's always gonna be someone who's faster, it was what you can do, and better yourself. Running farther or faster than you've ever been.
Keep pushing your limit!

Thanks Guideon! You have inspired me for sure.

Run
45 minutes
3 miles (2.97, but I've been rounding to the nearest tenth foir a while now)
150 bpm avg hr

This was a fairly easy pace.

I calculated my target working heart rate zone based on the Karvonen method and my 55 bpm resting heart rate.
50-80% is 119-157 bpm for my range. Tonight would be 75% and my aerobic zone or 60-80% would be 131-157 BPM.

Thanks Guideon! That's an interesting alternative.

Run
44 minutes
3.1 miles
158 bpm avg HR This may have been artificially low because the monitor crapped out for a while at first.

I ran 2.2 miles at an easy pace and then ran really hard for the final .9. My HR got up to 170 which is over 90% and sucked massivley. That's a 5K by the way.

Oeh I hate that, disfunctional HR monitors.
My soft strap (you know the band to which you click your sensor) wasn't conducting well. Gave me all kinds of random numbers, from 227 at the start of a run (of which I'm pretty sure if that were true would mean I was about to have a stroke or I was being electrocuted) and drop down to the low 50's, which is my resting HR, but I certainly wasn't resting.
Sent it back tot customer care, who gave me a new one, working fine again, pretty happy with it now!
So thumbs up for Polar and their customer support (they even sent it back the next, because "they know your Polar is very important for working out".

Having a run planned for later today, but I don't feel so good (the makings of a common cold) so we'll see how it unfolds

Good job on the 5k!

My Garmin strap has never had a problem when I had a different monitor. For some reason my GPS watch will lose the signal occasionally. If I'm paying attention I just press a button and it resets the connection. I was listening to music and just running so I don't know how long it wasn't connected. It does have an alarm that tells you the senor was lost, but I had the music too loud to hear the single chime. Why it doesn't auto reset the connection I don't know. It may be that the battery is getting low in the strap. Any idea how long they are supposed to last?

The GPS watch is a Timex Ironman Run Trainer 1.0 (old model). I got it for $100 and that's about half to a third of the cost of watches with equivalent features. I had a Timex Ironman heart rate monitor and never had a single problem with it. I'm pleased with the new GPS watch, but I had to return the first one they sent as it was dead on arrival. The HR monitor disconnects occasionally and it only has memory capacity for a few hours of running with the sensor recording at 1 sec intervals.

If the heart rate monitor starts to be an issue I'll replace the battery. If that doesn't fix it I'll update the firmware.

Below is the review for my watch. This guy does thorough testing of a lot of fitness related gear. If you are in the market I highly recommend his site.

I love dc Rainmaker's reviews, they are very good.
I've got the Polar rcx3:

I bought it mainly for it's external GPS unit, which has a lot longer battery life than most GPS integrated watches. When I bought it I was planning on using it for walks so you figure to track longer with your GPS unit, when going on the longer walks.
I don't go walking that often anymore, but still happy with the watch.
Alltough I would like to have a Suunto Gambit R2 next, but that one's expensive :ack2:

Not sure how long a battery in a Timex is supposed to last.

10 hours of training and 10 weeks in watch mode. I have been charging it every other day (doesn't need it) and wearing it as a regular watch too. Wearing it 2 days and using it for a half hour still showed full charge once and 3/4 charge the second time. I'm guessing 10 hours is pretty close for the new battery. I left the GPS on and the chrono running to drain the battery at first because it has specific initial charging instructions. It doesn't take long to reach full charge.

It's better than the Garmin forerunner 310xt battery life, but that may have been because I didn't know how to turn off GPS. It was way too bulky to wear as a regular watch and teh charging cradle was finicky and came loose too easily. It was given to me by my cousin because he had bought a new Motorolla GPS watch. It died after a few months and at the time I wasn't running because of my back so I made him take it back.

Mine works fine as a watch. At least on my beefy arm.

The external GPS is different, but it makes the Polar watch tiny and extends battery life. That Suunto is really cool, but yeah it's nearly $500 on Amazon.

Nice work BlueDragon! The cross trainer (we call them elipticals) will likely help your knee out if you do it regularly. Welcome to the thread!

I haven't updated the table for a while. I will try to get to that soon. I don't really like the setup and I may mess with that as well.

Run
30 minutes
2.1 miles
150 bpm avg hr

Pretty easy run. I got a really good sweat going despite it being in the 40s. Did the limber 11 beforehand.

Run:
7,5 mins at avg BPM 118 (warmup)
35 mins at avg BPM 155
7,5 mins at avg BPM 140 (recovery)
Total:
50 mins 9,58 km

Heart rate didn't come down fast in recovery, probably because of my cold.
Nice weather, enjoyed it

Long walks and swimming will help the knee too.

With this forum my spirit back too beandipku,,,

Beautiful spring weather here, When I started with my run (8.45 am) it was 8 degrees Celsius, with clear skies and sunshine. To me that's the best weather to run :)
