Update for anyone who’s interested ...

Ive now lost all the weight I put on previously. I knew all it would take would be starting cycling again.

it’s a strange thing; the more I cycle the more I want to cycle. The less I cycle the less I want to.

I’ve caught a train in every day this week and cycled home (33kms) because my new office doesn’t have a shower and I don’t want to be all sweaty at work.

ends up being 36km for the day because I ride to the train station in the morning. It’s around an extra 20 minutes door to door getting the train in the morning and only 5 minutes riding home vs driving. Yesterday there was an accident on the main road home which was slowing traffic so I was passing hundreds of cars; definitely faster to ride than drive yesterday!

anyway just checking in. All is well here. Hope everyone else is doing well too.

Thanks for the update, Pete. Well done on losing what you had regained. I think establishing a habit takes time. The more I do something, the more I want to do it too. I can't wait to get back out onto the golf course.

Oh I forgot to say ... I’ve had to go up a pants size ... my legs don’t fit in the 87 anymore. My quads have just grown too much.

not the typical result of exercise (to go UP a size) but not the worst reason to do so either.

Hey TM, always good to see your updates. Congrats on losing the weight!

I have been out on vacation and am just trying to catch up. Thanks for your post on my diary while I was away.

For those who remember I was working on a custom bike build ...

finally finished the painting today. Still have to source a suitable saddle, brakes and gearset but it’s looking like a bike again.

I’ve decided since I’ve got a decent commuter and a good drop bar bike that I’d do something different so I’ve got a set of bull horn handlebars and I’m going to make it a single speed (once I find all the necessary components).

some pictures of the paint. Bear in mind the clear has only just been applied so it needs to. Yes then I can cut and polish it for a good shine.

ignore the front forks in the first photo. I repainted them because I wasn’t happy with the contrast. The third photo is the head tube BEFORE the clear coat was applied so you’ll need to use you’re imagination and picture it all glossy and glimmering.

EDIT: all photos seem to have jumbled up sooo first/third doesn’t really help :rotflmao:

In other news I’ve been commuting to work on bike (train in so as to avoid office BO and riding home).

I’ve clocked up a modest 650kms for the month so far. Not a huge amount but it feels good to be riding. Near misses on the road nearly every day but I’m learning to accept it most of the time.

all up the muscle in my quads and calves make pants shopping a little tricky but I’m getting some really good definition. Especially in my calves.

I'm glad you liked your birthday pic :D
That bike is looking really good. Modest 650 km so far this month, hey? Modest........650 km...... :)

THE BIKE IS BACK! :D Great paint job, Monster! (And that's very thoughtful of you, taking the train in for the sake of your workmates. :) )

hahahaha. Apparently there’s a shower in the building but
1/ it’s in the ladies toilet block
2/ I can’t be bothered riding 34kms in and 34kms out.

I’m happy to keep getting the train in the morning

The bike came together in the end. Pretty happy with how it turned out. I’ve now ordered all the components for it. I should have them all by mid April (some are coming from China - not holding my breath for quality) and I’ll pop it all together for a ride then.

In other news 790kms for the month thus far. At this rate I’ll clock up 955. I’ll stretch it out to 1000 because ... well I like round numbers

Hey TM, the bike is looking good. A single speed with big handle bars, that sounds like my old bike from childhood. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

1,000 km for the month sounds impressive.

Why on earth did my post stop at

??? I think I was asking about "Ho[w's the weather looking?]" - I must have hit "post" by accident half-way through. Sorry about that!

hahahahaha didn’t even see it!

weather has been really good actually. Low to mid 30’s last week. Mid 20’s this week but a bit of wind.

Hey TM, thanks for the quote on my diary, very good. Something we all need to be reminded of from time to time.

20s or 30s sound great to me. I am looking forward to Saturday, with a predicted high of about 10 C it will be the warmest day so far this year.

I couldn’t survive your winters. I need my warmth!

Sounds gorgeous! Beautiful Adelaide! :)

it’s been really good. I’ve missed the really hot weather though. There’s something very relaxing about a stinking hot day.
