Well that’s the end of my February daily cycling challenge.

I set myself the target of riding a minimum of 20kms a day in February.

although I said last week that I would round it up to 1000kms I didn’t make it. Just had no time today for a big ride. Ended up being a sprint to get back home before midnight to get the ride in. Ended up closing out 20.33kms with 6 seconds to spare before March so it was a lot closer than it should have been.

all in all 960kms at an average of 33kms a day and 20.42kms a ride (about half were very short rides to the train station in the morning before work).

I’ll be having a rest day tomorrow but then back to riding to work from Monday onwards.

I agree with Amy, and you. In Louisiana, a very hot humid place, we used to say the heat was better than living somewhere cold. We could just get a cold beer and sit in the shade on a hot day, no problem. Up north when it was cold you had to wear lots of uncomfortable clothes and still be cold. I still like the heat, but am drinking less cold beer now.

Looking forward to new bike pictures.

Just saw the new post, congrats, 960 is close enough to 1,000 km!

Hey TM, the bike is looking good. A single speed with big handle bars, that sounds like my old bike from childhood. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

1,000 km for the month sounds impressive.

Hey Rob does this one bring back any memories by chance? It’s one I’ve been working on in secret. Not doing a restoration; leaving the rust patina. Just changed the bearings, realigned everything and lubed it up.

took it for its maiden voyage today along the semaphore foreshore with The Beatles and Eric Clapton playing from my phone on the pannier rack. Lots of smiles and waves as I went past. It was a hoot! Jeeze it’s jerky to steer though. Very sensitive!

I don’t do humidity ... at all. Very happy being a desert dweller.

unfortunately there won’t be any more pictures for a while. All the painting is done. I’m now waiting until mid May for all the components to arrive so I can assemble it. Really should have ordered them a long time ago but ‍♂️

yeah 960 isn’t bad. It’s funny; logically it makes sense that exercising a little every day with no recovery days is harder than exercising hard 4-5 days a week with recovery days in between but I didn’t realise just how much harder. There were a few days where if I didn’t sleep well I’d wake up and my legs would be like lead.

I believe you, it's just... I've never quite got to that point!

I love hot weather. For me there’s nothing like the feel of the sun on my face and the pure joy of looking around and watching everyone around me suffering while I gleefully go about my business. :eek2::party: Completely different situation in winter. I start shivering at 20 degrees. Used to be the complete opposite but I don’t know what happened.

Love the pictures of the black bike - it's very classic. And beautiful beachside scenes as well - that place seems so idyllic!

As for the change in how you feel about winter - you haven't shed a layer of insulation since those days, by any chance?

its actually British racing green. Just looks black in the light.

re winter no that changed on 15th March 2012. Very specific date I know ... I was in an accident and after surgery I started feeling very cold. It just never went away.

Nice bike pictures, and it does look familiar. Mine was red, and a men's model, but otherwise very familiar. I think I see a front brake, is the rear the old coaster brake?

red goes faster ...

it’s got rear brakes. They’re under the wheel though. Probably can’t see them because they’re hidden behinf hey clamp up on the inside of rim instead of the sides. Rod actuated not cable.
They are ... rubbish but they look cool.

I actually prefer the look of the step through over the mans bikes of this era. Something a little cool and funky about them

Not fitness related but today was a hard day.

for anyone who doesn’t know I was in an abusive marriage. I’m separated but not yet divorced. The abuse was not physical but it has certainly left scars.

I’m lucky enough to have a very good friend at work who’s been supporting me and (gently) pushing me to file for divorce. It’s definitely something I want but it’s just hard to put myself back into a dark place. I’m also extremely lucky that this friend is my partner on the major project I’m working on so I walked down to the births deaths and marriages office with her today and filed the paperwork for a copy of my certificate which I need to be able to lodge the divorce paperwork.

I had no idea that just lodging that one piece of paperwork would affect me so much but my blood pressure must have shot through the roof because I was clamy, shaky and felt faint as soon as I stepped foot in the office. That lasted for a good hour afterwards.

It’s such a silly thing but very thankful to have a friend like (let’s call her Daisy) to lean on when things get tough.

Good for you, TM on taking that important step & good for "Daisy" for being the supportive & positive person we would all like to have in our lives. I'm sure you will feel much better when things are settled. It is so good that you are no longer in that horrible relationship :grouphug:

Hey TM, speaking from experience I can tell you the sooner you get it done the better you will feel. However doing it never feels good. I think you probably know that already. Great that you have Daisy to help.

Oh, very well done, TM! That's one hard step taken - one step closer to having that corner turned. Good for you, for having the courage and strength to face the stirring up of feelings that it inevitably entailed - and blessings on Daisy for being a staunch and helpful friend. :hug2:

Interesting week this week. Strange and interesting developments at work, home and on this forum ...

good news now is that now I’m only waiting on the brake levers for frankenbike.

Sending good wishes for the home and work fronts - and thanks for your contributions to humane-ness this week!

Thanks. To clarify everything is good on work and home fronts. Just interesting. It’s been a strange week with some unexpected turns. :)
