Weight-Loss MEMORIAL DAY STARS TEAM Thread

Weight-Loss
Gratz on your combo, Hikari!

So, do you not like fruits or veggies, or don't want to be "bothered"? You're really selling yourself short by not eating them (forget the challenge!). They are packed with vitamins and minerals and antioxidants!
what is considdered one serving though?
Generally speaking, a serving is veggies is
-1 cup raw
-1/2 cup cooked
-3/4 cup vegetable juice

and fruit:
-1 medium raw apple, banana, orange
-1/2 cup chopped, cooked or canned fruit
-3/4 cup fruit juice

I love salads and eat alot of them, my portion usually counting for 2 servings of veggies, and usually have a cooked veggie with dinner like broccoli. Toss in a fruit and that's 4 servings for the day, TAh Dah!(general guildines say to eat 5 though).
Eating them in their natural state is best, but lots of food items contain fruits and veggies-jello, yogurt, cottage cheese, all fruit popsicles, frozen entrees . . just peak at the label, you may be getting alittle in anyway?! Juices are way to get in the servings too but be careful, they are usually concentrated in calories!

I think it's more that I don't really like that many fruits, I eat maybe two sorts of apples, and when I get bored of the taste I stop eating them for a while.
I eat fruits and veggies in periods, like one moth I can eat lots and everything is fine, and then poof one day I just can't be bothered with it so the fruits and veggies goes bad and I stop buying them because I know they'll go bad.

And I absolutely HATE warm vegetables... I can't stand them. *shudders* It gets all wrong... the taste and the texture... which is probably why I get so bored with vegetables... there's not much change in it. Everythings raw... lol Nothing much to do about it though. I've gotten slightly beter though, I can eat warm carrots, and warm onions as long as they're finely chopped... but that's about it. I'm such a picky eater. I have almsot always been a picky eater, so it's a very hard habit to change.

Well, that's my rambling explenation. :p

And thanks for explaining the serving thing. :)

Yarmiah-what nice photo, you two are matched very well! 20 years is a big accomplishment (especially these days) congratulations!

Welcome new members!

Cristen-4lbs, holy toledo batman! Congratulations I think that gym time paid off.

having a rough food week, I just want to EAT LOL

Jen,

I just wanted to say thanks for doing this challenge!

I love most kinds of fruits and veggies. I guess I'm not too picky.

I must have been posting at the same time as all fruit veggies tlak or I just missed it. I am very surprised when I see others journaling without fruits veggies it is just impossible for me to fathom, the supermarket girls all dread me because they get a workout on remembering the UPC's from all the produce he he he.

Funny story so generally we eat alot fruits veggies and overall very healhtfully except then add in too mnay sweets--darn, anyway this one girl at checkout actually KNOWS what tehy all are and eats them herself lots people have to ask what they are LOL anyway she is used to that order but whenver DH gets bored with whats in house and wants a dessert night he will run out and get brownies ice cream whatever so he always ends up with her by himself getting junk so she is always looking at him funnny, now its the running joke that he takes the stuff home and eats it by himself to hide from me (I'm a bigger sweet tooth in general) so last week I need to make brownies for a party and I sent him because I messed up first batch and so he had tons brownies mixes and got ice cream since it was on sale and then goes through of course her line, she is on to our ploy and gives him a really hard time it is very cute--he reports home like "dang, I got that little indian girl again and she's bustin my chops says shes gonna tell on me" LOL.

hmm well I dont post what I actually ate since sparks is not friendly to that but lets see what I got as yesterday was an 'off' day for me: breakfast currants (like raisins) 1 fig, 2apples, whole green pepper, stir fry veggies. It looks like you are only requiring 4 total not 4 of each right so I think I am ok?

ooh also Yarmiah-it looks for the bonus point challenge that we are not receiving 'partial' credit ie I journaled 1/2 of last week but I didnt get any of the bonus points right? If this is true I was wondering if we should change it from here forward because it almost encourages you to fall off wagon. Example for me I know alot times once I blow one day my history is to just keep compounding my mistakes and then I blow my whole diet and fall off wagon. So for Hikari she may try to get in some veggeis and fruit 1 or 2 days this week but now there is not a 'reason' (challenge wise) for her too even bother again unitl monday. Anyway its great either way just my observation, part reason I started journaling agian last week instead blowing it off was my points desire LOL.

I THINK I understand what you are saying, but not 100% totally sure.

Generally speaking the "active" weekly bonus rewards daily points for completing. For example this WEEK3 challenge awards points for each day you eat your fruits/veggies, so points will be 0-7, one for each day you complete the challenge. The "build on" bonus usually will be if you continue doing that challenge thru the entire week. For example, the build on bonus for week 2 is to do additional 45 min thru the week. If you do this, you get 5 pt, if you only get and extra 30 min, you get 0 points. Same goes for the journaling build on bonus: if you journal all 7 days, you get 5 pts, but if you only journal 6, you get 0 pts. The build on will generally be an all or nothing for the week kinda thing.

Ugg! I only got in 3 veggies yest, falling short of the 4 needed. I forgot my fruit ! Doing better today, had a banana and broccoli cheese potatoe for lunch.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I've been getting in insane amounts of exercise lately. 20 minutes Monday, 30 minutes Tuesday, 1 hour 40 minutes Wednesday, and 50 minutes so far today.

For the challenge this week, do we need 4 servings of BOTH fruits and veggies, or just one or the other every day?

To get the bonus points you must have a total of 4 servings each day, and at least 1 fruit AND 1 veggie in your totals.

Hope that helps clarify.

Thanks yarmiah! i get it now. I have definitely been doing about 4 servings of veggies plus 1 fruit all this week. So I'm good??

I am back! but I feel terrible.... I made myself sick on my trip. I got caught up with all of my old friends and basically went on an alcohol binge and didn't eat or drink hardly anything for 4 days except alcohol.. I am having severe stomach pains now.. im fairly certain im dehydrated so i am gonna get back on track this weekend and rest up for next week! needless to say I haven't journaled or eaten my fruits and veggies this week! I dont even remember if i got my exercise in! Hopefully I will be feeling better tomorrow so I can get back into the gym! Anyways.. I am calling it a night! Sorry that I let the team down this week! Hopefully I can get my exercise and weight loss points in!

While there has been controversary recently regarding water, I am still a proponent that being hydrated contributes to being healthy.

For WEEK 4 Challenge is to consume eight 8oz glasses of fluids a day, and at least 4 of those glasses must be water. So that's a total of 64oz everyday/32 oz of water and another 32 of water OR other fluids (alcoholic beverages don't count)

Give yourself +1 point for EVERYDAY you drink 64oz of fluids, 1/2 of them being water
Give yourself +5 points for Week1 build on bonus if you journal you food intake
Give yourself +5 points for Week2 build on bonus for adding 45min of exercise on top of the minimum of 90min
Give yourself +5 points for Week3 build on bonus for eating 4 veggies/fruits each day for the entire week

For a maximum of 22 points bonus points

oh this is so in the bag for me, I dont do caffeine much at all (intolerant/allergic) so I am almost exclusively water aside from my green tea in the morning!

I LIKE this one LOL

yarmiah-I was just looking at my point tally and at the end of last week I show cumulative 47poitns, you had said 37 could you look at my sheet and point out my error?

thanks!

hope everyone is doing well. I have not excercised fri-sun, I am trying to jump back on bandwagon today, I woke up so late today I just couldnt drag my butt out of bed we shall see.

hey Gang, I was in the hospital with my daughter for the past 5 days. I didnt do what I needed to do, and i was doing so well!!

Must be a math error in calculating your bonus points.
Week 1 max bonus points were 14
Week 2 max bonus points were 10
Week 3 max bonus points were 17

Some of you bonus weeks totals are more than the max. I'm happy to help sort out the confusion - let me know.

I think I've done my math right. Please check. I did journal all food, did all the exercise, and ate my fruits and veggies.
