Marsia's Diary

Bread, with gluten, gives me a big belly ache (& constipation). Hope you feel better without it Petal & enjoy the rest of your break xo
We'll get there, Marsia, because we
never
give
up! xoxo

Oops, sorry for that one :/
Don't worry, I like the encouragement just the same!!

Yes! Just trying is great because eating well feels so much better - makes my body feel so much more alive and awake! So the goal is great, but the journey there is, too!!!

Weighed in at 202 this morning, so the week of eating mostly veggies is working! So lost 17 pounds so far, but have not stabilized at this weight, so maybe won't count my chickens before they hatch! I'll post this new weight on the friendly challenge page if I still weigh this in a couple of days.

I haven't been exercising except for housework this week, but have been exhausted at the end of each day, so won't worry about it and just start up exercising again today. Did things like put together a loft bed, which was actually a bit of a slow but steady workout, so I probably burned some calories doing things like that.

Made a huge lasagna without the cheese (except a little bit of Parmesan) and without noodles, and it was so satisfying. I think I will bake more veggie dishes!

Ok, thanks LaMa! I know you are right because I did a juice fast a couple of years ago, and though I lost 35 pounds, my hair also started to thin, so I have never done that again. Can I ask what are the most important things? I normally get enough protein and fat, but really haven't paid much attention to B vitamins. I looked them up and can easily add in those. But are there other things I really should make sure I get almost every day?

In general it´s important to hit most targets most days but regularity tends to be most important for water soluble molecules because as far as we know the body doesn´t make buffers of those when you overeat on them (you just pee out the excess). Every vitamin, mineral, and essential amino acid has a function in the body that can´t normally be served as well by anything else. And to be fair: it´s hard to get all our nutrients in when we´re restricting calories. That´s one reason I started logging my food again, to get an overview of where I need to be careful.

Thanks so much, LaMa! I will make myself a good list of the food high in the B vitamins (I already know C.) I bet I am not getting all the Bs!

Don´t forget trace elements either (selenium, potassium, calcium...), though I think the easier way would be to see what you´re getting already (a varied diet probably gives you most) and then try and find solutions for whatever you´re missing.

Thanks Cate, LaMa, and Trusylver!

I have been craving tahini, but it is so fattening, I decided to look up it's health benefits:
  1. It’s rich in minerals such as phosphorus, lecithin, magnesium, potassium and iron.
  2. It's a good source of Methionine, which aids in liver detoxification.
  3. It’s one of the best sources of calcium out there.
  4. It’s high in vitamin E and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5 and B15.
  5. Helps to promote healthy cell growth.
  6. Prevents anemia.
  7. Helps to maintain healthy skin and muscle tone.
  8. It has 20% complete protein, making it a higher protein source than most nuts.
  9. It's easy for your body to digest because of its high alkaline mineral content, which is great for assisting in weight loss.
  10. It is high in unsaturated fat
  11. It boosts immunity and heart health.
Here is a nice article on it https://draxe.com/tahini/ .

So I decided to have just a little a day, and put a tablespoon of it in yogurt and plums this morning. Sooo good!

If you need tahini inspiration look at Healthy, Crazy, Cool on Youtube. The guy lives on the stuff :)
I looked him up and really like him! He says a lot of stuff the paleo people say about healthy fats in moderation, and I feel a lot better if I eat those types of whole foods. The healthy fats do satiate my cravings for junk food, as well. Thanks for showing me him, I think I'll listen to a few more of his vids, though he does make me hungry for avocados, and there aren't any in the house at the moment!!

:) He gets too hyper for me at times (he has a health condition that makes him produce too much adrenalin) but I really like some of his food combinations.

Sounds lovely Marsia I would never think of putting it in yoghurt .
I was worried it would be gross, but figured that you can use yogurt for savory dips, too, and the plums were not too sweet, so it was a really nice combination!
