Marsia's Diary

That's why exercise should be fun! We all need to move regularly if we want to have a decent shot at growing old healthily and if it feels like a chore you're not going to keep it up long term.
You're so right! I need to find a way to enjoy it instead of it being another chore to add to the long list!!! I am going to really consider this!

That’s why after all these years I have decided never to step in the gym again . I love my walking and do like my Leslie workouts .
I did try the leaders of the biggest losers DVDs before and Hated them . Your right LaMa we need to enjoy what we do
I tried one of those, too, and hated it to the point that it inspired me to do my own thing and stop paying attention to exercise "experts." I wasn't surprised at Cate's article on how many of the Biggest Looser contestants gained the weight back. Life shouldn't be a boot-camp!! My kid is reading while I type and says she likes running downstairs to get cake and then running upstairs with it to eat it for her exercise!

I think after a while we get used to finding the exercise we choose on our apps to match what we do. I try not to eat back my exercise calories anyway, but a ballpark figure is good enough for me. You are doing well, Marsia xo
Thanks Cate! The encouragement and little xo's really help! I think you are doing great, too!

I am someone who actually enjoys a gym but with the kids its too much of an inconvenience to go. I have to find a time when a gym is open not to mention the cost and lining up childcare. Just not an option. But having a smart tv in the livingroom enables me to find great youtube videos to work out to. There's so many different videos for exercise on there you could find something for anyone I think.

Too many people think exercise is unenjoyable. If that's the case then they haven't found the right one for them. And if exercise is too painful, they need to consult a professional for some exercises that won't be painful.

..

I tell you for the amount of exercise you need to do to to work off a bar if chocolate it’s really not worth it .
I know, that has stopped me in my tracks quite a lot lately!!! I was just at the movies for a matinee (Mission Impossible - guy flick for my hubby) and hadn't had lunch yet, but still did not eat popcorn because I know what the calorie counter and my hips would both think of movie popcorn. Had a glass of tap water with ice and sucked on ice the whole movie and enjoyed myself just as much! If you knew how much I used to love popcorn, this would be a shocking statement!!

Thanks Cate! I am a little amazed that your taste buds really do change and you really do feel like eating healthier once you start eating better! It's not skinny people propaganda!!!:lurk5:

I know. It is true & it comes as a big surprise. My mindset has been changed totally in the last 10 or so years about food. Putting something unhealthy in my body seems like self-abuse or sacrilege.

Maybe once you start taking care of yourself better it just feels wrong to undo all the good you have been doing. I think that's how I have been feeling lately!

I'm so inclined to agree with you guys . The more I'm learning about what's in the food I consume and the more exercise I am taking I don't want to self abuse either . Sadly it's taking me years and years to get to this position.

Marsia good you had a nice outing to the movies . I have in the past popped a few grapes in my purse and had them but yes we don't need to munch while watching the big screen

Oooo, grapes at the movies sound really good. Good idea!

It's very weird that the culture doesn't teach us as children to take good care of our bodies! Then again, getting my child to bathe or put on deodorant is such an uphill battle. My little yanimal!

The good news is Marsia that will change and then you be trying to get her out of the shower .

Lost a couple of pounds this week, so new low of 198.2. Lost 21 pounds so far and feel a lot less frumpy! I'll post it to the challenge page in a few days if it sticks.

Went for a beautiful walk on Point Lobos to Bird Island. The ocean around it is turquoise, and it's one of my favorite state parks. Didn't get a lot of exercise because I took my 80 year old mom who walks very slowly, but it was just a lovely walk and my daughter, mom, and I sketched by the ocean a few hours and did some nice sketches of waves crashing around rocky islands. Met a nice artist doing an oil painting there, too.

You just painted a beautiful picture of the three generations painting by the ocean. That sounded so lovely that I read it out to G xoxo
Well done, Marsia on having lost even more weight. 21 lbs lost is excellent!

Thanks Cate! It is really nice we can all sketch together, especially in a place we all love so much!! The really nice thing is that once you sketch a place, you notice so much more about all the colors and the little details that you never noticed before. The whole peninsula is a wildlife and sea creature refuge also, so as we sketched, crows played in the wind currents above our heads, the little spotted baby seals that blended in to the rocky islands all floated off the rocks and into the water as the tide rose, and an otter mom and pup played, and later a white egret was fishing in the beautiful kelp beds. We are amazingly lucky to have a place like that in easy driving distance from our house!

Today we took some of my daughter's friends and their families to a big victorian mansion with 160 rooms. It's called the Winchester Mystery House and was built by the widow of the man who invented Winchester guns, and she was told by a fortune teller that unless she kept building her house, the ghosts of all the people killed with her husband's guns would come haunt her. So we toured the house (which had stairways to nowhere, secret rooms, etc.) for over 3 hours on 2 different tours and then went out for dinner. The girls all had huge cheesecakes, but I ate a nice coconut curry chicken dish and was very happy not having dessert. Was happy I ate a lot today and still stayed under the limit.

On the way home we stopped at our Asian market and I found lots of organic caffeinated teas that I am going to try and see if it is the non-organic-ness of tea or the caffeine that gives me a sore throat and crashes my immune system if I have too much. I am hoping I can have organic tea because it really helps curb my appetite, and I love it a lot. Also got a lot of organic oyster mushrooms - yum!

That picture you painted just got even better Marsia. What a beautiful place it must be! You have a lovely way with words xo

Sounds like heaven. I dream of one day getting to see the ocean again. I live pretty much in the centre of North America so we are pretty landlocked here.
What's it like where you live? Do you have lakes and rivers where you are? I love sketching by water because if you are still long enough, so many animals come out and enjoy the water with you. I grew up near a big river with little streams emptying into it, and loved the land there so much. Even watching the little water bugs and cray fish was such a joy. We kayak and stand up paddle board, and have similar experiences with being able to blend into nature and see so much more that way, too. Anyway, hope you get to take a trip to the ocean again someday soon!
