Weight-Loss
Am I on the challenge list twice (21 and 23)? Does that mean I have to lose twice the weight of my set goal for June? :-D

I think I meant to type in "Elissa" lol but repeated your name, but hey, if you can lose twice the goal, go for it! ;) lol

Wow Emi - you have great will power then. If I have it IN MY HOUSE, it will get eaten. A lot of times, even if I don't have it in my house, if I crave it - I will go out and get it. I need to find a way to curve the cravings.

Maybe I should move to the middle of nowhere where there are no stores within many miles - that might stop me. It would have to be WAY out in the boonies because I can see myself driving a LONG way for a hot fudge sundae.

Anyone have ideas how not to cave in to the cravings? TIA!

Sometimes I do have good will power and sometimes I don't. With certain snack foods, I know that I love and don't want to "torture" myself by simply cutting them completely out of my life. So I do buy them but then divide them by portion size, or usually by calories. For instance, last night I bought a large bag of chocolate covered salt-free pretzels. I divided those by 100 calories into little bags and whenever I get a "chocolate craving" I'll take one of those baggies. And really, I could technically eat one every day for a snack and still meet my diet requirements, but I usually just eat these once in a while.

What I don't buy at all are foods that I am completely crazy over because then I don't think I could resist the temptation. lol So I guess to answer your question about cravings, something you could try is finding a healthier substitute for your cravings. For instance, I love chocolate candies, but if I buy something like a bag of Hershey’s, I know I'll eat them all. So instead of buying my absolute favorite chocolate snack, I'll get a chocolate snack that I do enjoy but isn't something that I'm really obsessed over. So, I purchased those chocolate pretzels, and while I still love those pretzels, I don't crave them as much so I end up being able to have more control over how many of those I eat.

Now, if I went ahead and bought the Hershey’s, I would probably not always have a lot of self-control. So, find substitute snacks. Don't try to just make your craving go away completely, because anyway that's not fun. I like chocolate, I always will, and I don't want to give up that food up forever, but I will stop buying certain chocolate snacks that may get me into trouble.

I hope that makes sense. :)

Yes, that makes perfect sense. Good idea! I think I would have to substitute chocolate rice cakes for Hershey's because if I had the chocolate covered pretzels, I would eat all of them too! And now... I really want some of those. :drool5:

LMAO! That's hilarious and actually they are pretty damn good. I've tried some brands that aren't that great. The chocolate just tastes bland, but this one is really rich in flavor, so this is totally a binge-worthy snack *however* they are pretty filling so I've never eaten more than 5 of them (they are good sized pretzel, by the way) and had a craving for more. So that's good.

Conversely and oddly enough, I have binged on rice cakes before. lol The apple caramel ones. I wasn't on a "diet" then per se but my sister was and she had a lot of healthy snacks including the rice cakes and I remember once I took a whole bag to my room and about an hour later the bag was gone. lol

My sister labeled me the rice cake bandit! :willy_nilly:

LOL Bandit! :D

Another idea I had was putting the snacky stuff in my husbands car and only having the one serving per day in the house. The thing is - I would accost him once he got home from work. He might like that though. :blush5:

So I know I'm five days late, but I'd like to join in as well!! My weight journey has been long and drawn out and very mired in not only quitting smoking but also getting through a lot of emotional hangups about eating as well as learning about how to eat a healthy diet. Now that I'm here, it's time to put all that to good use!!! I'm sure more of my story will come out during the month, so now for the intro post:

Name: Heather
Age: 28
Current weight: 233lbs
June goal weight: 227lbs

Weekly weigh ins:

June 1st: 233lbs

Inspirational music: Shattered by OAR. Not sure why, but it always gives me a positive vibe and makes me feel like moving.

Weekly tip: Create yourself a reminder card listing at least 10 reasons why you want to lose weight. Make them positive reasons which will give you a boost when you are struggling. Create multiple copies and keep them in places that you will see them several times a day.

Weekly warning: Look up nutritional information as much as possible, especially when you go out!!!

Thanks for creating this group!!! I'm excited :) :hurray:

Amazing week this week, it really surprised me, I guess I'll find out next week if this was for real, or if it is just fluctuation.

Better late then never!

Love running to "I Like It" - Enrique Iglasias feat. Pitbull at the moment.
The song has a great beat and just gets me in a great mood in general.

Weekly Tip
Write down everything you eat!! Even if its horrific. Its amazing how easily your brain "slips" out bad food if you don't record it.

Weekly Warning
Just because it's "light" doesn't mean you can hoover it!

So excited by this challenge!

I agree, looking forward to weighing in tomorrow.
I did have a couple "bad" days concerning exercise, but was able to squeeze at least some in every day. I have started having much smaller meals at a time with snacks between... seems like I am always eating. But I suppose that's ok for the most part since the meals have been better/healthier and the snacks have been many more fruits & veggies. Yesterday besides a salad I also had a banana, cantaloupe as well as my strawberry w/crushed ice drink.

This morning wasn't the "best" breakfast; hubby wanted blueberry pancakes. But we plan to go to the lake to get in a few hrs worth of swimming & exercise this afternoon, so should burn plenty of calories :)

I absolutely love pancakes, but when I analyzed the recipe I realized that there were some things I could do to make them healthier, but still taste great. So I thought I would share my "low calorie" pancake, They are about 100cal/cake and if you replace the sugar with splenda sweetner you could drop another couple of calories from that.

Gasman's Famous 100cal Pancakes:

Dry:
1 cup flour
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
pinch salt

Wet:

1 cup skim milk
1 egg
2 tbsp unsweetened apple sauce

Whisk Dry ingredients together in a medium bowl.

Mix wet ingredients together, whisk until frothy and the apple sauce is mixed throughout. Add the wet to the dry and just mix untill everything is combined, do not overmix, the batter should be lumpy.

I use a nonstick electric frying pan, set at 315F, I do not use any oil or grease on the grill.

Use a 1/4cup measuring cup to portion out the pancakes, this recipe will make about 7 cakes

I will usually have 2 pancakes, with a few strawberries, blackberries, and two tablespoon of low calorie telephone pole syrup (aunt jemima).

This breakfast costs me about 300calories, and it's worth every calorie.

Yumm!

Gasman, you lost 7.5 pounds!? AMAZING JOB!!! That is awesome :) :jump:

Thank's it sure surprised me, I had to re-weigh as I didn't believe it at first.

I was averaging 5-6lbs/week in April/Early May but then dropped to 3lbs/week for the past two weeks.

This past week I upped my water intake and boom 7.5lbs down. I guess we'll see next week how things shake out. I have expect a really small drop but am hoping for another big one

I am running 20-25kms per week ( in 5km runs)
I am walking 15kms per week
I am eating on average 1250cals below my BMR (but I'm a big guy and that still means I get about 21-2200 calories/day
