Weight-Loss Halloween Challange: Caspers Countdown

Weight-Loss
Yarmiah, That was kind of gross of her! Ick!

I stock my cupboards with the good stuff too! My kids will come home after school and grab a snack or two. But when they are here on the weekend, they don't eat as much. I asked my youngest ds if he was hungry one day - it was like 5 pm. He said no, I said well usually you eat snacks after school and it's like 5 pm already.

He said, "well you cook better foods mom, I don't think I get enough protein at school, and that's why I'm hungry afterwards." He's only 10 and already on a healthy track! :D

I know just what you mean. I don't stock to bad of goodies for my kids. Just granola bars. I guess I'm a mean mom. ;)

When I pack there lunches now they get a sandwich, 2 fruits or veggies and some kind of cracker snack. I bought, this one time, some cream pies for them and I won't do it again(especially around this time of the month;)).

Well I've done that before too - not like I've never bought junk. Once in awhile for kids is ok. Because if they don't indulge now, they will do it later...for sure!

Good for your son, SweatPea! Both my husband and I have been overweight since we were pre-teens and I am mighty surprised that my children have healthy weights. I make sure they make good choices and there weight is never talked about(when I was growing up it seemed like every conversation between my relatives revolved around my and my siblings weight). I think when you talk about your kids weight(especially in front of them) it makes them hurt and self-concious and they rebel in a way. That is at least how I felt. My children love to exercise. The 2 older girls come to the gym with me. It makes me so happy to see they are aware of how important it is to be physical. Sorry I went off on a tangent.
BTW-my kids keep saying they like the food now too. It is so much lighter and healthier...My son couldn't get enough of the salmon I made last week!

Cathy and SweatPea, what a great example you are showing to your kids!!! That's part of why I started to do this for myself to show a good example for my daughter. She is only 2, but when I go downstairs and tell her I am going to exercise, she wants to come and exercise with me!! She even says it in her baby language : baby go execise!!! She is so funny.
I am trying to convince my DH to give up soda, he drinks the regular one and my daughter always wants to steel a sip. Not to mention last night my DD walked up to me and said: "Daddy likes cookies.". Of course my DH (who is as skinny as a rail) was stuffing the cookies in like there was no tomorrow!! DH eats way too much junk food. Ice-cream, cookies, soda, chips and salsa, are on his menu every day. He eats the healthy food I cook too, no problem but does not seem to lose the cravings for sweets. In relation to that, his cholesterol is high. I always tease him, he must be the only vegetarian with high cholesterol!!! :rotflmao:

Have a good day Caspers!!
I already had my exercise in today, but tonight is boot-camp!! still on track with the no junk food (well, if we don't count the allowed ones. LOL)

That's cool about your kids.

I know I always felt chubby as a kid because of comments my step-father made. :-/ I look back now and I know that is what molded my mind set. My husband also had a weight issue and it was brought up in his family as well. He wasn't "heavy" but he was heavier than his stick-thin sister.

The funny thing is is that the sister eats worse than he does and has now packed on pounds. Two of her 3 kids are overweight. (I guess that's really not funny.) But at one time when dh was at his heaviest weight (about 6 yrs ago or so) her husband made the comment that my hubby should be a great swimmer - and he said why, and the comment made back was because "fat floats." Ooooh! You should've seen my face! Then turn around and years later, they've put on the weight - and they eat a lot of junk food we don't even stock in our cupboards.

I think that eventually people like that get their "just desserts". I hope that it enlightened them when we decided to lose weight and now they are facing the same thing.

My kids are very healthy. My oldest one is always working out too - of course he wants a "6 pack". ;) My youngest one, well he's different. Not much of an athletic type, but if I can get him on a nature walk or a nice leisurely bike ride, he's good.

Hajni

Hajni, Your hubby sounds like my grandpa (how he used to be.) Could eat anything and not gain weight!

I've always tried to work out - even when I was at my heaviest. And it's cute to see the kids try to do the same exercise. Like crunches or sit-ups. My oldest used to do the Richard Simmons workouts with me....:D Of course now he denies it (like he doesn't remember.) LOL

Have a good one my friendly ghost friends!!!

Good afternoon folks!
Well, I have been working my arse off this week and I better see a lower number on the scale, or it may jsut go out the window! I have been exercising hard, eating right and drinking my water. At this point, I actually look forward to getting on the NT and working up a sweat. (ahh, did I just say that?? :rotflmao:) I kinda feel that if I'm not sweating its not worth it to even bother exercising. I hope to see a nice pay off on saturday.

Hey there Caspers!
I am still alive and kicking!
Almost didn't get my exercise in yesterday. At the 11th hour (literally! it was like 10pm) I jumped on the elliptical and slammed in a 30 minute workout! I pretty much kept the strides at 68-70 the whole time except for the last 5 minutes I used for a cool down period. Then jumped on my ab dolly for 10 full out planks at about 30 seconds each. Went from that to 10 more ab dollies that were just roller style, no plank. Not feeling it much today so have to assume that I need to stay on the plank for a longer period of time.
Hoping to see a loss on the scale this week but not sure if it will be enough for the challenge. Just gonna keep at!!!
Catch ya all later!

I am 1 of 4 kids in my family. Three of us struggled with weight and my one brother was stick thin all his life. He ate everything, but mostly candy and junk. He was always bad about calling me names. He has gained some weight(especially in the belly) so inside(because I would never want him to feel bad) I snicker at his weight gain.

SweatPea...That is funny about you sister-in-law. After a comment like that she deserves to gain weight. I would normally never wish fattness on people...but some people need a little kick in the rear. Just last night my 8yo son was laying on the couch next to me and he didn't have his shirt on and I said "Wow, look at your abs...you have a 4 pack!" He asked what a 4 pack was and I told him about abdominal muscles and how you can see the six segments. But I told him "you have a 4 pack because your little.....see daddy's belly, he has a 12 pack!"

Hajni....Your daughter sounds so sweet. You are teaching her great habits at a young age...good for you!

Yarmiah....Keep it up, I am sure you will see a great result this weekend.

I have been dedicated to exercising early in the morning and have been doing great. I almost want to do more in the evening, but I talk myself out of it.
Have a great evening!
Cathy

Gah getting yelled at!!!!

I have to apologize to all of you to my spotty appearances as of late. Right now my company is going through 3 major hardware/software upgrades that will continue until Feburary. I have been back and forth to Vegas->Wisconsin about 8 times in the last 3 weeks. One day I went to vegas, attended a meeting and flew back to Wisconsin in 24 hours.

Last week I put in 82 hours, this week I am at 53 already and it's only thursday. I have been taking 1 -1.5 hour breaks at lunch and try to get some exercise in at the gym my company owns.

Basically I am doing all my weights Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, with a 30-40 minute walk/jog everyday except Sunday. Finally think I broke my plateau, because when I finally got home today I stepped on the scale and was quite pleased at the 336.2 looking back at me, from 3 weeks at 338lbs.

I will TRY to fill this all in on time so Hajni doesn't send a hit squad after me.

Gratz on everyone's progress, and Happy Belated Birthday to Hanji.

Hey Heretic! Nice to see you again!

I figured that Hajni had sent the dawgs to find you. ;) Congrats on your weightloss!

>>>>>>>>

Fat2fit - I know what you mean, but she's said a lot that she should've just kept to herself over the years. I kind of feel sorry for her since she doesn't know when to talk and when to keep her mouth shut. :boxing:

>>>>>>>>>

Bell, Dang girl, this is the latest I've worked out in a long time. Of course I know your schedule is different than mine. Kudos!

>>>>>>>>>

I just got finished with my elliptical workout - I made that thing sing tonight - got in 4.55 miles in 30 min! And then I did 15 min. of upper body (biceps, triceps, shoulders, etc.) with weights. :D

I almost didn't do anything, but then remembered I am going on a field trip tomorrow (Fri.) with my son and won't be able to do much of anything. I will take my pedometer to see how much walking we get in though.

Have a good one!

Yay, Heretic good to see you are still here and also losing the lbs!!!! Congrats!! It must be hard to stick to any routine with all that traveling. Also congrats on getting in your exercises. I would be so wiped out by all that travel and long hours, that I am not sure I would have the energy to do anything but sleep. Oh, and I did send the dawgs out, I guess I have to call them back now. :rotflmao:

Whoo Bell!! 10.00pm exercise!! hats down to you! We have such a committed team Caspers!!!

Same to you SweatPea!! You go girl!! have fun at the field trip today.

Yarmiah : if you don't see a loss this weekend, I am going to send the dawgs your way to chew your scale to pieces!!!

I am doing awesome fellow Caspers. My scale is showing less and less every day. Way past my goal for this week. No complaints here though. ;)
Hubby is planning to visit a town about 1 hr away from us and make it like a whole day's thing tomorrow. I don't know what tomorrow's new challenge is yet, anyone knows?
I am forever grateful for this challenge and to all of you who I got to know here on WLF. It has been a great motivation and awesome support. No way I would have gotten this far without being on here.

Have an awesome day!!!
Hajni

Howdee Troop Casper! Hope everyone had a great week and will be pleased with tomorrows reading of the scale.

F2F - I too like to work out in the morning- I used to do it so it wouldnt hang over my head all and wanted to knock it out, but now I actually look forward to it as it puts me in a great mood to start the day off.
Bell - Great to see ya checkin in! Aweseom job gettin in that work out at such a late hour!
Heretic - Nice to see ya again! Man, those hours are rough, but great job staying on track and losing some lbs!
Today900 - I'm in the same boat! I rocked it HARD this week! Hopefully we will both see the fruits of our labor tomorrow on the scale!

As for me, I had a killer day- in a good way. Got up and got my 35min on the NT, had a great day at work, drank my water before I left work, tracked all my points and after getting home, got on NT for another 30 min!

Today900: Awesome girl!! Can't wait till your tomorrow's weigh in!!

Yarmiah: Whooo you worked out twice today!!!!(by the way mine is an NT too) I can't wait for your number on the scale!!!!

I will posting bright an early tomorrow Caspers as I am exited about the number on the scale!!!

Have a great night!!!

Hajni

I am in shock!!! :eek::eek::eek:
You won't believe this.
I hopped on the scale this morning, even that I knew I was doing exceptionally good this week I am still scraping myself up from the floor.

It showed : 151.6:eek2:

I re-checked it 5 times !! I lost 3.4 lbs this week. I thought I could never ever do that. My highest lost to date is 2 lb/week and I was killing myself.
I did have TOM last Saturdays which could have been modifying my weigh in. That's the only explanation I can think of.

I hope all your weigh ins go this awesome!!

Have a great weekend Caspers!!!

GRATZ GRATZ HAJ! That is awesome!

For me, I weighed in at 174.6. I'm pretty confused and PISSED OFF to be honest. I worked my ass off this week, journaling all my points, working out, drinking water and I lost .4? What a jip. Read my diary- I have been 100% honest in what I ate and how much I exercised. Yes I'm mad, but that's not to say that I'm ready to quit- oh HELL no, I've invested so much already and know what I'm doing is good for my body, but would like the scale to reflect that, ya know?
So any ideas why the virtual no change? I know there will be plateau's along the journey, but 3 weeks in???? Is it because my ToM is due next week? Am I eating the wrong combination of foods? Am I not eating enough food? (I usually have left over points, let alone dipping into the bonus weekly points). Am I eating or exercising at the wrong times? Any insight is appreciated.

So, sorry team that I was unable to get the +2 for the loss, but I am FAR from giving up! And I will take my measurements tomorrow morning to see if there is any change there.

Hey all, just read thru everyone's entries, but trying not to be online too much today (ha!)

WTG Hajni!

Yarmiah - not sure sometimes our body just needs to adjust to the changes. It could be that tomorrow you would show a loss, but because it doesn't want to today just because "it's weigh in day". I'm sure you will show a loss soon, just be patient.

As for me, no loss for me either. :( I worked hard as well and ate on plan. Yesterday was probably a little off, since I did have to eat at a buffet in the evening with the bus crew - but I tried to choose wisely.

Have a great weekend my friendly ghosts!

P.S. If you want to know all about my field trip you'll have to stop by my journal. :D
