Gastric Balloon

I had the gastric balloon and had an awful first two weeks and after 9 months only lost 10Kgs which I know is better than putting 10 Kgs on, but it felt like too little and as soon as the balloon was out, I put the weight back on plus 4 more kilos.... So I have had a POSE done and it's only been 4 days, but the first 4 kilos have gone and unlike the balloon, it is permanent, so even if the weight loss is slow I won't have the extraction deadline over my head. To be honest, the POSE has been a faster recovery although familiar feeling of OMG what have I done!!!! for the first 48 hours +....

So, to get you through the worst of the balloon, - it does work, and if you can keep it up, fabulous, and if it all gets too much then saving up for a POSE is the next things on the to-do list....

There are always options, - sadly none are easy.... Hang on in there,

Shelley

It has been a while since I have given an update. I had a balloon inserted in June 2010. I lost some weight with weight watchers leading up to the process and then 6kgs immediately before on a vlcd that the dr put me on. Taking that and the balloon into account I lost 30kgs. I had the balloon removed in January this year. I have continued to watch my diet and I exercise regularly. I have now lost close to 50kgs. In my opinion the balloon taught me to listen to my body and I would say that I eat no more now than what I did with the balloon in. I am the fittest and heathiest I have been since my early twenties (I will turn 40 next year!!!). I would like to lose around another 10 - 15kgs and I now see that as an achieveable result, which I didn't when I started out. If you approach the balloon in the right way, it can be the perfect tool!

hi everyone! i read this entire thread and took great motivation from so many positive outcomes from the balloon. I'm booked to put mine in tomorrow morning, I'm currently 130kg and would like to get back to 95-100 which was my weight over 10 years ago before i let myself go!

oh and i realise i probably wont lose 30kg just from the balloon, but i'm using it mainly as a tool to start to learn to control my eating habits, my main problem is portions, i've gotten so used to massive portions that I end up starving and eating more whenever I start to diet. hopefully this will give me the kick i need.

Hi, I'm new here. I live in Vancouver and have been trying for so long to find a doctor who does the balloon procedure but I can't seem to find any. I've made close to a hundred phone calls already but it's always more orl ess the same replies. I heard they don't produce the balloons anymore. Can anyone who had the procedure done recently help me out? Thanks.

really interesting - thanks for sharing your story

- i'm wondering if this could be the option for me? hmmm...

well 3 weeks in now and although it hasn't been THAT bad, it hasn't been great either.

First few days were really fine, wasn't hungry at all so no real problems with eating and it coming back up, sipped water and little spoon fulls of yogurt.

Only problem really is now that I'm trying to start to incorporate some real food into my diet again it all comes up, everything, every time. Lost 12 kg already which is pretty amazing in 3 weeks, but I really need to eat!!! :)

Hello all!

I just had my balloon inserted on December 1st at Bluewater in Sarnia. The procedure itself went well. I had very little vomitting and only within the first 36 hours or so.

The cramping is another story. Man am I hurting! I tried going to work yesterday (teaching) but ended up staying home today. I would compare the feeling to back labour LOL

I phoned the clinic who to be honest is quite useless. They were great at returning phone calls when they were setting up my payment plan but now that I have questions they seem to have lost my phone number. My nutritional coach is also MIA after several attempts at contact on my part. I am part of the Jump6 program which also has its own message board of which I was supposed to get login information for but again they keep telling me they will get that to me. Yeah right.

The receptionist told me that this pain is normal and that if it was going on after a month I should be concerned but is normal for this time frame. I can't even walk standing straight up as it hurts too much. I walk slightly hunched as that provides some comfort.

Any tips on how to deal or alleviate this at all? I have tried Pepto and am taking Advil extra strength Liquigels. I also have an rx for Buscopan and a daily pill of Nexium.

I still have not moved on to solid foods as I have zero interest and am actually a bit afraid of it making the pain worse.

Starting weight was 188.6 lbs

Thanks in advance and I hope to continue to share this journey...

I had to have my balloon removed due to intolerance. Clinics promise alot but I think don't deliver when it comes right down to it, the clinic I went too was also connected with Jump Start,

were you told about the chance of intolerance???

I had the balloon inserted in Dec last year, and there was no one to help when I ended in crisis, all these clinics close and try to get a general surgeon to help...impossible.

Ohhh the things that they don't tell you. Like you, I was 189 lbs, I jeopardize my health, not to mention the money that i spent and the time I also lost in lost wages.

I spent last Christmas holidays in hospital for 8 days and in the end had to have the balloon removed...

I remember feeling like I had a boot under my ribcage!!

I hope you begin to feel better soon, if not make sure you have a plan in place when these clinics close over the holidays.

you can get the gastric balloon at cosmesurge in dubai (several locations around dubai) about 18,000 - 20,000 AED.
