hey Adam2000, I weighed myself last night and I have lost 16 1/2 pounds and this is week four so I'm very very please. Only another 31 to go but I have 5 months to take that off gradually with diet and exercise.

Already I feel much better and my clothes fit so much better too. However I'm getting really bad burps that smell so bad. I've read back on this forum and others have had them too - but they are just horrific!

How are you getting on with everything?

thanks for your reply.

Hi guys ...so this is my week 4 of having the gastric balloon, and I have lost 14 pounds!! Yippee! my weight loss went down in that in the last week I lost 1lb. I hardly feel my balloon so much so I have to check if its there. My issue right now is that my portions have increased in the last 2 days, not sure if its because of that time of the month or something is wrong?

Mol, My acidity and burping went away after week 4. I would pay attention to what you eat as certain foods may cause more gas than usual.

Hi Kastha1,

I had to take motilium last night as I got sick at work and was cramping pretty badly - I just think it was because the previous day I was at a BBQ in a friends house and had BBQ'd burgers and fried veg. I think it was too much oil (even though the portion was teeny tiny) for my tummy and it just rejected it. I had some simple rice and chicken last night but the burping was severe so I took a motilium tablet which settled it.

I hope it settles down after this week, but I have noticed certain foods that give me bad bloating - Bread (all forms) is a killer. I've noticed that all my life I've had a swollen tummy until now. I genuinely think that I could be allergic or can't process wheat / yeast or something but when I stay away from bread my tummy is happy.

As for time of month, I ate a lot when I had mine - and you hold onto water more so I wouldn't duly worry. See how you are next week.

keep in touch,

Mol

I'm going for consultation on Saturday, well after 2moro and I feel funny.

I wonder how would I feel when I'm due for the prosedure if things go well on Saturday.

what things should I ask, what should I know before I go?

Hey Mol , I am really happy for you , actually that sounds like a really good rate

regarding the burps i called my doctor about it as it was starting to get really bad , he told me there is simple cure that he doesnt like , i told him if it is not like a surgery i will go for it , he simply told me diet seven up , he hates all kinds of soda in general , and told me not to do it for long , but guess what , it worked perfectly

I am doing great , now i can eat pretty much all i want and i developed a sense of guilt if i even think about food , which is great , i will need that for the after the balloon phase

Good luck and keep up the good work

Don't worry , it will be fine , like i said , the procedure itself is nothing to worry about , it is just the 3-5 days after , you get through that and you will be fine other than this you shouldn't worry about anything

3 Weeks now and i lost 9 Kg ( about 20 lbs ) in three weeks :jump:, i am so happy , the thing i love the most so far the guilt feeling that i develop once i even think about junk or unhealthy food , i never had this in my life before . i started going to the Gym last week , just light routine though , i feel much better . 15 more Kgs to go for my target , and 21 for my perfect weight

hello guys im leela . i just had balloon fitted in 5 h ago i was all right after the procedure but now feeling a bit sick. any body knows how much fluid their balloon is filled with . any tips ?

Hey Leela60 , welcome to the community , i think you did the right decision , even though the next few days will be bad , just hang in there and think positive about yourself after it will be over

i think they fill the balloon with 600 ml , not so sure about it though

anyhow like i said , you will have a rough ride ahead , it will be over in 3 days , just hang in there and think positive , it is almost my 5 th week and i lost 12 kg

Think healthy , think positive , don't you dare to think of quitting no matter how bad it gets in the next few days

Adam, you aren't a doctor or anything, right? I would appreciate if you stopped giving out advice as if you are one. For a lot of people it takes a lot longer than a few days to get used to the balloon, several weeks in fact, and we had quite a few cases here where people couldn't tolerate the balloon at all and had to have it removed to limit the damage done to their health.

So if you could cut out the 'Hang in there, no matter what' speeches that would be really nice. Encouraging people is great, but what it comes down to is that having the balloon inserted isn't a small thing, and having a foreign object in your body is certainly a big thing, and it is not a matter of 'quitting' if people encounter problems and might consider having the balloon removed early. If there are any problems, people should see a doctor and have it checked out because there are so many things that can go wrong with the balloon, not be told to 'hang in there'.

In addition, Leela....you had a balloon inserted but didn't get the information of how much fluid it is filled with? Why not? Shouldn't your doctor have discussed that with you before even putting the balloon in??

I am not actually , but my best friend who did the procedure is a gastroenterologist , and i get all my advice from him and this is basically what he tells me , i think he knows better than you dude , cheers

one more thing , if you feel something is wrong beyond the nausea , vomiting , stomachache , it really doesn't need a rocket scientist to realize that you have to check with your Doc immediately , it is called common sense my friend , i was talking about the common side effects that everybody else encountered , and i quote " Encouraging people is great "unquote . cheers

I was one of those people who could not tolerate the balloon, after a month of vomiting almost everything that went in. I too was told "just hang in there", "be positive". I was told this by the doctor and the director and it did give me the impression that this was something I had to just try and persevere, too be tough, hang in there, have positive thoughts, unfortunately it should be common sense but you want so much for it too work, and there is the cost, the hope, the comments and so you do "hang in there" unfortunately for some, including me, comprimising my health.

For many people who get the balloon, including me, we elect to not share with many, I hadn't told anyone except my immediate family, as a result there is limited support except for these forums, hopefully we can support each other, I totally get the comment "hang in there" is meant to be positive and encouraging however it should only be intended for those first few days, than after that "get your butt in too see the doc", When my doctor told me to hang in there, I thought he knew best, he was the doctor, not sure what would have happened if I kept thinking i could have "hung in there", when I did get admitted to hospital, the emerg physician said my potassium levels were so low that in another day or so my heart could have stopped. Obviously in this case, my doctor did not know best.

I agree with San, this should not be taken lightly, the advertisements promote "non invasive, non pharmacological. 10 min procedure. This message leaves us with thinking its no big deal...I was never on so many meds, so not sure what they mean by non pharmacological, I was on Morphine for the first few days, antispamsmotics, antiacidic medication, I have never taken any medication before, and although not surgical, anytime you put a foreign body into your body....its invasive.

as for the amount of saline in the balloon, I was not initially told, I had 700 cc's. I wonder, and it would be interesting to hear how many have been consulted/ informed about the amount of saline that will be inserted. If you have had a balloon, would love to hear from others if they were told how many cc's of saline prior to the procedure.

thx,

drul

I'm not a dude. And I don't care about what your friend is to be honest. The info you are giving out is incorrect, and I'm asking you again to be a bit more careful with it, that's all.

Hey guys checking in...so far I'm at 15 pounds of weight loss. I'm not loosing much more than 1 pound a week. I think I'm still not eating consistently well. I eat well one day..and eat one bad thing the other day. I think my issue is not stopping in time...like today I had 2 fish tacos...I was technically full for that time with one taco...but I knew I would get hungry later today and as I was in meetings I knew I'd rather eat now than get really hungry later.

I guess my eating habits are getting better and I have lost significant weight that is noticable to others....but I'm just so hard on myself here......

Mol, how is the acidity now??
